Involvement of Serotonergic System and Magnesium on Anxiolytic Effects of Pomegranate in Male Mice

The anxiolytic activities of Punica granatum L. fruit juice (PGFJ) in various validated animal models of anxiety and amnesia have been recently reported in mice. Similarly, anxiolytic-like activity of magnesium chloride has been exhibited in the elevated plus-maze test in mice, in some studies. Buspirone is an anxiolytic psychoactive drug with known effects on 5-HT1A receptors that its action is not related to benzodiazepines. The purpose of the present study was to examine interactions between PGFJ, magnesium (Mg) and buspirone as a partial agonist of 5-HT1A receptors in producing anxiolytic-like activity in the elevated plus maze in mice. The anxiolytic-like effect of PGFJ (5, 10 and 20 ml/kg, orally), buspirone (5 mg/kg, i.p), Mg (50 mg/kg, orally) and their interactions were evaluated after ten days’ treatment. PGFJ given at all doses induced an anxiolyticlike effect significantly increasing the percentage of the time spent in the open arms, and the percentage of the open arm entries, in a dose-dependent manner. Buspirone showed anxiolytic effect after ten days;however, its effect was roughly comparable to the effect of PGFJ 5 ml/kg. Buspirone in combination with PGFJ (5 ml/kg), did produce more effect compared to buspirone alone and nearly in the range of PGFJ 5 ml/kg response. Also, Mg induced an anxiolytic-like effect that was more than effects observed by buspirone 5 mg/kg. However, binary application of buspirone and Mg showed anxiolytic effects more than buspirone, alone. In another group, Mg in combination with PGFJ (5 ml/kg), produced more anxyolitic effects compared to either Mg or PEF alone. It can be concluded that Pomegranate anxyolitic-like effect is dependent on interactions with both GABAergic (related to Mg) and serotonergic (5-HT1A) systems.

Facies Analysis, Depositional Environment of the Lower Permian Deposits of Chili Formation in Kalmard Block, Eastern Central Iran (Darin Section)

Early Permian deposits in north of Kalmard region recognize with formal group of Khan;they have various features in the different place. This group includes four different formations from lower to the upper part: Chili, Sartakht and Hermez. These formations consist of carbonate rocks. Chili Formation has 104 m, thickness in Darin section and consists of limestone with intermediates of shale and marland sandstone. Lower boundary of this formation is disconformable with Gachal formation. The upper boundary is separated by unconformity from the upper part Sartakht formation according to the lithological characters and microscopic studies, cause identifications of beach, intertidal, open and semi-restricted lagoon, shoals and bar and open marine sub-environ- ments for the Chili Formation. Vertical changes of microfacies and depth changes curve show much more thickness of shoals and bar microfacies, and little thickness of open and semi-re- stricted lagoon and open marine microfacies. Deposits of Chili Formation in Darin section deposited in the gentle gradient Homoclinal ramp in the south of Paleotethys Ocean. Two depositional sequences have been identified in this formation, based on recognized Fusulinid, show age of Sakmarian, which has adaptation with Lower Absaroka III.

Early carboniferous deposits of the Kalmard block, with various characteristics in different outcrops, are recognized by Gachal Formation. Generally speaking, this formation comprises of four different members (A, B, C and D), consisting of carbonate and evaporative rocks. Gachal Formation is composed chiefly of 55 meters sandstone and limestone interbedded with shale. According to the lithological and microscopic studies, Gachal Formation is deposited in beach, semi-restricted and open lagoon, shoal and open marine environments. Vertical changes of microfacies and the curve of its depth changes account for the high thickness of the facies of shoal and bar sub-environments and the low thickness of the facies of lagoon and open marine sub-environment as well. Gachal Formation rocks in Rahdar section are deposited in a low-angle?homoclinal ramp?located in southern Paleothysis Ocean. The carbonate-sandstone sequence in?Gachal Formation in Rahdar section is composed of a depositional sequence separated from each other by type 1 sequence boundaries. Deposits of this formation are separated from lower deposits by type 2 sequence boundary and from?Khan Group by unconformity. The sedimentary sequence identified in this formation points to the age of late Visean, conforming to Kaskaskia IV. The erosional boundary between Gachal and Khan Formations is relatively compatible with drop in sea level at Late Kaskaskia global scale.

Parasitic contamination of surface and deep soil in different areas of Sari in north of Iran

Objective:To study the parasitic contamination of soil in selected areas of Sari,north of ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted to identify all available parasites in surface and deep *** this study 580 soil samples(278 deep soil and 302 topsoil samples)from 21 different locations were collected from pathways,parks,greenhouses,estates around the city,cemetery,main squares,farmlands,fenced gardens and *** on the soil type,two samples were prepared,from surface and deep soil at the depth of 3 to 5 *** performing various stages of preparation,including cleaning and washing,smoothing and flotation,parasitic elements were examined microscopically and quantitative parasite counting was done using a McMaster ***:The results showed that the highest rate of parasitic contamination was related to nematodes larvae(26.11%).Other contaminants such as Entamoeba and Acanthamoeba cysts,vacuolization Blastocystis hominis form,oocyte containing sporocysts,Toxascaris eggs,nematoda larvae,Hymenolepis eggs,Ascaris eggs,Fasciola eggs,hookworm eggs,Toxocara eggs,insects'larvae and other ciliated and flagellated organisms were also *** results of this study showed that the highest contamination was found in public garden(25.80%)both in surface(29.30%)and in deep soil(21.12%),while the lowest level of contamination was observed in seashore surface soil(4.90%).Conclusions:The results showed that soil can provide a potential medium for the spread of soil transmitted parasitic diseases in the environment;therefore,preventive programs are needed.

Traditionally Nocardia asteroids was considered the predominant species of causing no-cardiosis. The improved identification of isolates using molecular techniques have shown that the genus exhibits considerable taxonomic complexity and phenotypic base identification can be ambiguous. The aim of this study was to assess the species distribution of Nocardia strains mostly recovered from patients suspected of having tuberculosis, during three years period (2009-2012). The clinical isolates were identified to species level using conventional tests and genotypic methods using single and multi locus sequence analysis (MLSA) of 16S rRNA, gyrB and secA1 genes. Nocardiosis was diagnosed in 46 patients. The most frequent underlying condition were organ transplantation (6 patients;13%), cancer (6 patients;13%), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (6 patients;13%), non-infectious chronic lung disease (5 patients;10.8%) and tuberculosis (4 patients;8.7%). Nocardia species was recovered from 46 different clinical specimens, the most common of which was bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) (43.5%). Eleven different Nocardia species were identified: N. asteroides (n = 12), N. cyriacigeorgica (n = 9), N. farcinica (n = 7), N. wallacei (n = 6), N. carnea (n = 3), N. otitidiscaviarum (n = 3), N. abscessus (n = 1), N. arthritidis (n = 1), N. kruczakiae (n = 1), N. nova (n = 2) and N. veterana (n = 1). In conclusion, infection caused by Nocardia species appears to be more common than generally appreciated. The current study provides further evidence that Nocardia species are capable of causing a wide range of human diseases in healthy and immunocompromised patients. MLSA is a reliable method for accurate species identification of Nocardia isolates and would be more feasible for routine use in clinical laboratories.
