Comparison of biomechanical indices measured by ocular response analyzer between children and elderly:a systematic review

Biomechanical study of the visual system by ocular response analyzer investigates the inter-structural biological relationships,mechanics,and function of the visual *** review aimed to investigate the changes in corneal biomechanical parameters with age and *** articles published in PubMed between 2000 and 2021 were investigated and critiqued,and valid scientific evidence was collected,reviewed and concluded according to the inclusion and exclusion *** studies showed that corneal biomechanical changes occur infrequently in children up to the age of 20y,and with increasing age and wider age range,there was a significant decrease in corneal biomechanical indices,especially corneal *** children and adults,most studies have shown that these biomechanical indicators,especially corneal resistance factor,were higher in *** hormonal changes may contribute to this finding,the role of axial length and other biometric indicators should not be *** axial length,the intraocular pressure,and the corneal thickness are other factors associated with biomechanical parameters that should be taken into account in clinical diagnosis and management especially for patients undergoing refractive surgery as well as keratoconus patients.

Topographic factors associated with anterior chamber angle narrowing in patients with keratoconus

AiM:To identify topographic determinants of the anterior chamber angle(ACA)in patients with keratoconus(KCN).METHODS:Four hundred and ten eyes of 294 patients with KCN were recruited for this ***,complete ocular examinations were performed for all patients,including visual acuity measurement,refraction,and slit-lamp ***,all participants underwent corneal imaging by the Oculus Pentacam ***:The mean age of the participants was 32.40±8.52y(15-60y)and 69.5%of them were *** mean ACA was 38.47°±5.75°(range:14.40°to 56.50°)in the whole sample,38.24°±6.00°in males,and 38.98°±5.11°in females(P=0.447).The mean ACA was significantly different among different groups of cone morphology,as patients with nipple cones showed the lowest mean ***,there were statistically significant differences in the mean ACA among different groups of cone locations,with patients having central cones exhibiting the lowest mean ACA(Pior and posterior Q values were significantly,directly correlated with ACA(anterior Q:r=0.122,P=0.014,posterior Q:r=0.192,PiON:This study provides critical insights into the risk factors for ACA narrowing in KCN patients,which is essential for planning intraocular *** with nipple and central cones exhibited the most significant ACA ***,more negative Q-values are associated with increased ACA narrowing,highlighting the need for targeted diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

invasive species are increasingly spreading,particularly in rangeland *** is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of different methods for controlling invasive plants in these *** study aimed to investigate the effects of three strategies-21-year grazing exclusion(21-YES),mowing-grazing in rotation in alternate years(MGRS),and moderate grazing(MGS)-on the change in cover,density,and biomass of Leucanthemum vulgare Lam.(Ox-eye Daisy=OED)and the plant *** accomplish this,three sites selected for each *** 2021,270 vegetation plots were sampled using a random systematic ***,we recorded the density and canopy cover of all growth forms(forbs,grasses,and ferns),the OED biomass,and the ground *** results indicated that MGS reduced OED density,OED canopy,and OED ***,this strategy demonstrated the highest density and canopy cover of the plant community(including total,forbs,grasses,and ferns).Additionally,the strongest correlation was observed between the total canopy and the OED density(R2=-0.91,-0.95,-0.94 in 21-YES,MGRS,and MGS,respectively),as well as between the total canopy and the OED canopy(R2=-0.51,-0.98,-0.97 in 21-YES,MGRS,and MGS,respectively).The MGS led to an increase in diversity *** general,the grazing strategy has proven to be effective in controlling the spread of invasive OED and has also resulted in an increase in canopy cover,density,and diversity indices of the plant *** study highlights the importance of ongoing management efforts to control invasive species,with moderate grazing potentially serving as a more practical,culturally accepted,and costeffective short-term control strategy for widespread rangeland weed infestations.

Promising effects of Persian shallot extract on the serum markers and blood pressure of patients with metabolic syndrome:a double-blinded randomized controlled trial

OBJECTiVE: To evaluate the effect of Persian shallot extract on the serum markers and blood pressure of patients with metabolic syndrome(MetS). METHODS: Fifty patients with Met S diagnosis were randomly assigned to the intervention(Persian shallot extract) and the control(placebo) group. Both groups received treatment for three months. Before the study and at the end of the study, 5 mL peripheral blood was taken from each patient. The measured factors included total antioxidant capacity(TAC), superoxide dismutase enzyme(SOD), malondialdehyde, oxidized low-density lipoprotein(Ox-LDL), apolipoprotein H(Apo-H), fasting blood glucose(FBS), total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein(HDL), LDL, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. RESULTS: At baseline, the evaluated parameters were not significantly different between the intervention and control groups. At the end of the study, the mean serum levels of malondialdehyde and ox-LDL were significantly lower in the intervention group. The mean FBS, cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL were significantly lower in the intervention group. The mean TAC and HDL were significantly higher in the intervention group(P intervention group significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure. No other significant association was observed. CONCLUSiON: Persian shallot extract has several beneficial effects in Met S patients, including optimizing oxidative balance, reducing blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, and blood lipid profile.

AiM:To compare the subjective refraction data with autorefraction findings in high ***:in a cross-sectional study,sampling was done from in different geographic regions in iran using a multistage random cluster sampling *** study participants underwent cycloplegic auto-refraction and subjective refraction using the red-green ***:in this study,277 eyes of 158 students aged 8 to 15y were *** to the results,the mean difference between subjective refraction and autorefraction in measuring sphere,cylinder,spherical equivalent,J0,and J45 was-0.18±0.76,-0.36±0.40,-0.36±0.79,0.15±0.20,and 0.05±0.21 *** correlation of these two refraction methods in measuring the aforementioned indices was 0.963,0.898,0.960,0.931,and 0.948 *** 95%limits of agreement of the two methods in measuring the above indices were-1.66 to 1.31,-1.14 to 0.42,-1.91 to 1.19,-0.24 to 0.54,and-0.36 to 0.47 *** agreement between the two methods decreased with increasing cylinder power,and the best agreement was found in myopic ***:The measurements obtained by autorefractometer have a significantly higher cylinder average compared to subjective ***,in the cylinder range of 4–5 diopters,the values of J0 and J45 do not have a high correlation.

Creation of an oxygen-enriched environment during synthesis as an effective way to improve luminescent properties of Y_(2)O_(3):Eu^(3+)

The growing demand for luminescent nanomaterials intended for various applications increases the necessity to develop and improve approaches to the creation of highly efficient nanosized *** current study,an approach to enhancing the efficiency of red luminescence of monoclinic Y_(2)O_(3):Eu^(3+)with the particle size of~20 nm by creating the oxygen-enriched environment during the gas-phase synthesis was *** investigate the effect of oxygen amount during the synthesis on characteristics of the phosphor,a series of nano structured Y_(2)O_(3):Eu^(3+)with the addition of 0-40 vol%O_(2) to the main buffer gas Ar was synthesized by laser *** is shown that the amount of added O_(2) exerts virtually no effect on the phase composition and particle size,but significantly improves the luminescent characteristics of Y_(2)O_(3):Eu^(3+).Thus,the addition of 30 vol%O_(2) leads to virtually a 20-fold growth in the photoluminescence(PL)intensity caused by ^(5)D_(0)→^(7)F_(0-4) transitions in Eu^(3+)and an increase in the absolute PL quantum yield from 3%to 53%(λex=395 nm)compared to the sample synthesized without O_(2).The addition of oxygen also improves the emission color coordinates from(0.571,0.320)to(0.630,0.322)due to the removal of a considerable fraction of oxygen *** synthesized nanopowders are shown to be highly stable:upon storage under ambient conditions for two *** yield(QY)of the samples decreases by less than 2%.it is expected that the key features underlying the proposed approach will be useful for various methods used to synthesize oxide nanophosphors.

Arctic sea-ice extent: No record minimum in 2023 or recent years

Arctic sea-ice extent reaches its minimum each year in September. On 11 September 2023 the minimum was 4.969 million square kilometers(***^(2)). This was not a record low, which occurred in 2012, when the minimum was 4.175 ***^(2), 0.794 ***^(2) less than the minimum in 2023. However, the ice extent had decreased by 0.432 ***^(2) compared with 2022. Nevertheless, the summer melting in 2023 was remarkably less than expected when considering the strong heat waves in the atmosphere and ocean, with record temperatures set around the world. in general, there is a high correlation between the long-term decrease in sea-ice extent and the increasing CO_(2) in the atmosphere, where the increase of CO_(2) in recent decades explains about 80% of the decrease in sea ice in September, while the remainder is caused by natural variability.

Bacteria and host: what does this mean for sepsis bottleneck?

BACKGROUND: Sepsis is a life-threatening inflammatory condition in which the invading pathogen avoids the host's defense mechanisms and continuously stimulates and damages host cells. Consequently, many immune responses initially triggered for protection become harmful because of the failure to restore homeostasis, resulting in ongoing hyperinflammation and immunosuppression. METHODS: A literature review was conducted to address bacterial sepsis, describe advances in understanding complex immunological reactions, critically assess diagnostic approaches, and emphasize the importance of studying bacterial bottlenecks in the detection and treatment of ***: Diagnosing sepsis via a single laboratory test is not feasible;therefore, multiple key biomarkers are typically monitored, with a focus on trends rather than absolute values. The immediate interpretation of sepsis-associated clinical signs and symptoms, along with the use of specific and sensitive laboratory tests, is crucial for the survival of patients in the early stages. However, long-term mortality associated with sepsis is now recognized, and alongside the progression of this condition, there is an in vivo selection of adapted ***: Bacterial sepsis remains a significant cause of mortality across all ages and societies. While substantial progress has been made in understanding the immunological mechanisms underlying the inflammatory response, there is growing recognition that the ongoing host-pathogen interactions, including the emergence of adapted virulent strains, shape both the acute and long-term outcomes in sepsis. This underscores the urgent need for novel high-throughput diagnostic methods and a shift toward more pre-emptive, rather than reactive, treatment strategies in sepsis care.

Various phenomena(fracture,phase transformations,and chemical reactions)studied under extreme pressures in diamond anvil cell are strongly affected by fields of all components of stress and plastic strain ***,they could not be ***,we suggest a coupled experimental−theoretical−computational approach that allowed us(using published experimental data)to refine,calibrate,and verify models for elastoplastic behavior and contact friction for tungsten(W)and diamond up to 400 GPa and reconstruct fields of all components of stress and large plastic strain tensors in W and *** the generally accepted strain-induced anisotropy,strain hardening,and path-dependent plasticity,here we showed that W after large plastic strains behaves as isotropic and perfectly plastic with path-independent surface of perfect ***,scale-independence of elastoplastic properties is found even for such large field *** results open opportunities for quantitative extreme stress science and reaching record high pressures.
