Effects of lavender and Citrus aurantium on pain of conscious intensive care unit patients: A parallel randomized placebo-controlled trial

Background: Conscious patients admitted to intensive care units(ICUs) suffer from pain for various reasons, which can affect their recovery ***: The present study compared the effects of aromatherapy with Citrus aurantium and lavender essential oils against placebo for reducing pain in conscious intensive care ***, setting, participants and interventions: This study was a parallel randomized placebo-controlled trial. The ICUs of two educational hospitals in Kerman in Southeastern Iran were the study *** hundred and fifty conscious intensive care patients were randomly divided into three groups using a stratified block randomization method. Two groups received aromatherapy with essential oils: one with lavender and the other with C. aurantium;these patients received a 30-minute therapy session using their assigned essential oil on the second day of their intensive care stay. The placebo group used 5 drops of normal saline instead of essential oil during their *** outcome measures: Patient’s pain was assessed using a visual analog scale before the aromatherapy intervention, as well as immediately after and one and three hours after ***: The mean pain score of the lavender group was 40.01 before the aromatherapy intervention and fell to 39.40, 30.60 and 23.68 immediately after the intervention, and at hour one and three postintervention, respectively. The mean pain score of the C. aurantium group was 45.48 before the intervention and was reduced to 32.34 at three hours after the intervention. The mean pain of the placebo group decreased from 42.80 before the intervention to 35.20 at three hours after the intervention. Pain scores of all groups decreased during the study(P < 0.001). This paper numerically and analytically investigates a non-linear static,twodimensional thermoelastic analysis in the radial and tangential directions of a cylindrical shell made of functionally graded *** dependence of material properties on temperature makes the heat governing equations *** obtain the temperature field analytically,the heat conduction equation is linearized and exactly solved using a linearizing transformation,then this exact solution is substituted in the Lamme-Navier equations,and the elasticity equations are numerically solved using a second-order central finite difference method,and displacement and stress distributions are ***,the temperature field,stress,and displacement distributions are presented,and the effect of inhomogeneous parameters on them is examined and *** correctness and accuracy of the exact analytical solution of the temperature field are illustrated by a comparison with the numerical *** results show a good agreement.

Invasive aspergillosis in liver transplant recipients, an infectious complication with low incidence but significant mortality

BACKGROUND Infections,including invasive fungal infections(IFIs),are among the leading causes of mortality in liver transplant recipients during the first year *** To investigate the epidemiology,clinical manifestations,risk factors,treatment outcomes,and mortality rate of post-liver transplantation invasive aspergillosis(IA).METHODS In this case-control study,22 patients with IA were identified by reviewing the archived and electronic medical records of 850 patients who received liver transplants at the Imam Khomeini Hospital complex in Tehran,Iran,between 2014 and *** control group comprised 38 patients without IA infection matched for age and *** information obtained included the baseline characteristics of liver transplant patients,operative reports,post-transplantation characteristics of both groups and information about the fungal infection of the patient *** The prevalence rate of IA among liver transplant recipients at Imam Khomeini Hospital was 2.7%.The risk factors of IA among studied patients included high serum creatinine levels before and post-transplant,renal replacement therapy,antithymocyte globulin induction therapy,post-transplant bile leakage,posttransplant hepatic artery thrombosis,repeated surgery within 30 d after the transplant,bacterial pneumonia before the aspergillosis diagnosis,receiving systemic antibiotics before the aspergillus infection,cytomegalovirus infection,and duration of post-transplant hospitalization in the intensive care *** most prevalent form of infection was invasive pulmonary aspergillosis,and the most common chest computed tomography scan findings were nodules,pleural effusion,and the halo *** the case group,prophylactic antifungal therapy was administered more frequently than in the control *** antifungal therapy response rate at 12 wk was 63.7%.The 3-and 12-mo mortality rates of the patients with IA were 36.4%and 45.4%,respectively(compared with the mortality rate o
