Characterization and Propagation of Historical and Projected Droughts in the Umatilla River Basin, Oregon, UsA

Climate change is expected to have long-term impacts on drought and wildfire risks in Oregon as summers continue to become warmer and drier. This paper investigates the projected changes in drought characteristics and drought propagation in the Umatilla River Basin in northeastern Oregon for mid-century(2030–2059) and late-century(2070–2099) climate scenarios. Drought characteristics for projected climates were determined using downscaled CMIP5 climate datasets from ten climate models and soil and Water Assessment Tool to simulate effects on hydrologic processes. short-term(three months) drought characteristics(frequency, duration, and severity) were analyzed using four drought indices, including the standardized Precipitation Index(sPI-3), standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index(sPEI-3), standardized streamflow Index(ssI-3), and the standardized soil Moisture Index(ssMI-3). Results indicate that short-term meteorological droughts are projected to become more prevalent, with up to a 20% increase in the frequency of sPI-3drought events. short-term hydrological droughts are projected to become more frequent(average increase of 11% in frequency of ssI-3 drought events), more severe, and longer in duration(average increase of 8% for short-term droughts).similarly, short-term agricultural droughts are projected to become more frequent(average increase of 28% in frequency of ssMI-3 drought events) but slightly shorter in duration(average decrease of 4%) in the future. Historically, drought propagation time from meteorological to hydrological drought is shorter than from meteorological to agricultural drought in most sub-basins. For the projected climate scenarios, the decrease in drought propagation time will likely stress the timing and capacity of water supply in the basin for irrigation and other uses.

sheep were domesticated in the Fertile Crescent and then spread globally, where they have been encountering various environmental conditions. The Tibetan sheep has adapted to high altitudes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau over the past 3000 years. To explore genomic variants associated with high-altitude adaptation in Tibetan sheep, we analyzed Illumina short-reads of 994 whole genomes representing similar to 60 sheep breeds/populations at varied altitudes, PacBio High fidelity (HiFi) reads of 13 breeds, and 96 transcriptomes from 12 sheep organs. Association testing between the inhabited altitudes and 34,298,967 variants was conducted to investigate the genetic architecture of altitude adaptation. Highly accurate HiFi reads were used to complement the current ovine reference assembly at the most significantly associated beta-globin locus and to validate the presence of two haplotypes A and B among 13 sheep breeds. The haplotype A carried two homologous gene clusters: (1) HBE1, HBE2, HBB-like, and HBBC, and (2) HBE1-like, HBE2-like, HBB-like, and HBB; while the haplotype B lacked the first cluster. The high-altitude sheep showed highly frequent or nearly fixed haplotype A, while the low-altitude sheep dominated by haplotype B. We further demonstrated that sheep with haplotype A had an increased hemoglobin-O2 affinity compared with those carrying haplotype B. Another highly associated genomic region contained the EGLN1 gene which showed varied expression between high-altitude and low-altitude sheep. Our results provide evidence that the rapid adaptive evolution of advantageous alleles play an important role in facilitating the environmental adaptation of Tibetan sheep.

Experimental study and optimization of cutting parameters in machining of super alloy with hybrid ultrasonic method

super alloys are intensively used in various industries, especially in the aerospace industry, because of their special characteristics. A number of holes are sometimes required to be drilled into super alloys for aircraft at their final stage assembly. In the present study, a hybrid ultrasonic machining method, called rotary ultrasonic machining （RUM）, was successfully used in super alloy drilling. The empirical modeling of the process parameters of RUM was performed for the super alloy （Inconel 718） using an experimental design approach, called response surface methodology （RsM）. Parameters, namely tool rotation, feed rate, ultrasonic power, and abrasive grit size, were selected as input variables. The others were kept constant. The performance was measured in terms of the machining rate and the surface roughness. The developed models were found to be reliable representatives of the experimental results with prediction errors less than 4-5%. Moreover, the feed rate for the quality and productivity aspect was found to be the most critical factor. The optimized values of the machining rate and the surface roughness achieved through a multi-response optimization were 0.9 825 mm3/s and 0.951 ***, respectively.

Assessment of groundwater quality with special emphasis on nitrate contamination in parts of Gautam Budh Nagar district,Uttar Pradesh, India

Progressive developments in industrial and agricultural activities are causing a critical stress on groundwater quality in developing *** objective of this paper is to assess and evaluate the contamination level of groundwater caused by leachate in 11 villages of the Gautam Budh Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh,*** systematically sampled 22 groundwater samples and 13 leachate samples to ascertain the source of pollution on groundwater *** standard analytical methods given by the American Public Health Association(APHA)(standard methods for examination of water and wastewater,23rd ***,AWWA,WPCF,Washington,2017)were used for quantitative estimation of hydrochemical parameters of collected *** results of the analysis of groundwater samples indicate that pH values range from 7.31 to *** mean magnesium concentration in groundwater samples is 58.93±21.44 mg/*** of the groundwater samples taken,approximately 41%and 73%of samples analysis results have been found beyond the acceptable limit with respect to the parameters of turbidity and total dissolved solids,respectively,according to the Bureau of Indian standards(Indian standard specification for drinking water(Is:10500).BIs,Manak Bhawan,New Delhi,2012)for drinking *** 95.4%of groundwater samples and 92.3%of leachate samples have high nitrate concentrations above the standard limit of BIs(45 mg/L),*** Piper plot shows that 50%of the samples belong to the Ca^2+-Mg^2+-HCO3^-*** and Durov's diagrams indicate that the mean concentrations of ions are in the order of Na^+>Mg^2+>Ca^2+>K^+(for cations)and HCO3^->NO3^->C1^->sO42^->CO32^->F-(for anions)in groundwater of the study *** spatial variation of the hydrochemical parameters shows that groundwater is heavily contaminated with respect to *** results indicate that the groundwater of villages Achheja,Bisrakh road,Dujana,Badalpur and sadopur is not suitable for drinking.

The spread of the severe Acute Respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2(sARs-CoV-2)has already taken on pandemic extents,influencing even more than 200 nations in a couple of ***,regulation measures in China have decreased new cases by over 98%,this decrease is not the situation everywhere,and most of the countries still have been affected by *** objective of this research work is to make a comparative analysis of the top 5 most populated countries namely United states,India,China,Pakistan and Indonesia,from 1st January 2020 to 31st July *** research work also targets to predict an increase in the number of deaths and total infected cases in these five *** our research,the performance of the proposed framework is determined by using three Machine Learning(ML)regression algorithms namely Linear Regression(LR),support Vector Regression(sVR),andRandom Forest(RF)*** proposed model is also validated upon the infected and death cases of further *** performance of these three algorithms is compared using the RootMean square Error(RMsE)*** Forest algorithm shows best performance as compared to other proposed algorithms,with the lowest RMsE value in the prediction of total infected and total deaths cases for all the top five most populated countries.
