Objective:To evaluate inhouse developed SEVA TB peroxidase enzyme immunoassay using cocktail of mycobacterial excretory-secretory antigens(ES-31,ES-43 & EST-6) for antibody detection and their affinity purified antibodies for antigen detection in tuberculosis suspected ***:Inhouse developed SEVA TB peroxidase enzyme immunoassay was evaluated prospectively in 73 suspected pulmonary and 46 extra-pulmonary tuberculosis patients during November 2008~March 2009 in a tertiary hospital located in rural ***:Assay on prospective analysis showed 100% correlation of pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB) and extrapulmonary tuberculosis(EPTB) acid fast bacilli positivity and antitubercular treatment in 11 *** nine PTB and 12 EPTB cases showed negative for EUSA test and were also not given antitubercular *** 30 PTB and 27 EPTB cases showing ELISA positivity were neither acid fast bacilli positive nor antitubercular therapy *** cases may possibly have dormant infection and need further *** EPTB cases ELISA was observed to be more useful than AFB smear ***:This inhouse developed user-friendly peroxidase ELISA can be used as an adjunct test of smear microscopy or culture techniques for routine screening of patients suspected of PTB or EPTB.

Co-gasification of coal and biomass an emerging clean energy technology: Status and prospects of development in Indian context

Co-gasification of coal and biomass is emerging as potential clean fuel technology to achieve high thermodynamic efficiency with relatively low CO2 emission. The coal and biomass have been exclusively gasified more than a century to obtain gas–liquid fuels and the production of chemicals. Co-gasification has higher efficiency than the solitary coal gasification because the cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin content of biomass help to ignite and enhance the rate of gasification. It is suggested that the extensive research on carbon reactivity pattern, heat release, reaction kinetics, etc. may support to reduce the uncertainties in the co-gasification performance of coal and biomass blends, particularly in India. The prospects of co-gasification technology in Indian context have been discussed considering the abundance of varieties of coal and biomass. The suitability of existing gasifier procedures and their limitations with operating parameters like temperature, residence time, density optimisation, feed rate, agglomeration intensity, the tar formation and techno-economics involved are described. Also, this paper reviews the research highlights of the history of co-gasification and the advancement in upcoming challenges like a design of gasifier, access and preparation of biomass, disposal of residue, environmental concerns and reassurance to the operators for execution of large and small-scale projects.

New Approach to Measuring the Ankle and Toe Brachial Indices as New Markers for Early Detection of Lower Extremity Peripheral Artery Disease

Background: Lower extremity Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is caused by atherosclerosis, or Plaque buildup, that reduces the blood flow to the legs and feet. PAD affects approximately 230 million adults worldwide and is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, and leg amputation. The first-line method for diagnosis of PAD is the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI), which is the ratio of ankle to brachial higher systolic pressure measured in ankles and arms. The Toe Brachial Index (TBI), which is the ratio of the toe systolic pressure to brachial higher systolic pressure measured in both arms, is considered to be an alternative to the ABI in screening for PAD. The ABI and TBI are measured on the right and left side, and the lower of these numbers is the patient’s overall ABI and TBI. Clinical studies and meta-analysis reviews have shown that the conventional ABI measurement, which uses a cuff, and handheld sphygmomanometer and continuous-wave Doppler tracings, provides an acceptable-to-high specificity level but low sensitivity when compared with vascular color Doppler ultrasound, and/or angiography methods. Another study has shown that the TBI measurement has greater sensitivity but lower specificity than the ABI when compared with vascular color Doppler ultrasound diagnostic based on waveforms. The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate the specificity and sensitivity of the VasoPad System comparing its results to the vascular color doppler ultrasound waveforms. Materials and Methods: The VasoPad System is an automated device using the pulse wave method to measure the arms and ankles dorsalis and tibial posterior artery blood pressures, the photoplethysmography second derivative (PTgSD) to estimate the toe systolic pressure, a patented photoplethysmography (PTg) index marker and volume plethysmography via cuffs during deflation. The shale deposits of Damodar Valley have received great attention since preliminary studies indicate their potential for shale gas. However, fundamental information allied to shale gas re- servoir characteristics are still rare in India, as exploration is in the primary stage. In this study, Ba- rakar shale beds of eastern part of Jharia Basin are evaluated for gas reservoir characteristics. It is evident that Barakar shales are carbonaceous, silty, contains sub-angular flecks of quartz and mica, irregular hair-line fractures and showing lithological variations along the bedding planes, signifying terrestrial-fluviatile deposits under reducing environment. The values of TOC varies from 1.21 wt.% to 17.32 wt.%, indicating good source rock potentiality. The vitrinite, liptinite, inertinite and mineral matter ranging from 0.28 vol.% to 12.98 vol.%, 0.17 vol.% to 3.23 vol.%, 0.23 vol.% to 9.05 vol.%, and 74.74 vol.% to 99.10 vol.%, respectively. The ternary facies plot of maceral composition substan- tiated that Barakar shales are vitrinite rich and placed in the thermal-dry gas prone region. The low values of the surface area determined following different methods point towards low methane storage capacity, this is because of diagenesis and alterations of potash feldspar responsible for pore blocking effect. The pore size distribution signifying the micro to mesoporous nature, while Type II sorption curve with the H2 type of hysteresis pattern, specifies the heterogeneity in pore structure mainly combined-slit and bottle neck pores.

The increasing demand for the development of unprecedented routes to access fluorinated molecules hasled researchers to perform intriguing research around the world. In this context, fluorinating reagents andfluorinated building blocks have been the two pillars for the generation of diverse organic ***, synthetic approaches involving transition-metal catalyzed C–H functionalization have tremendously evolved in the past two decades. Looking towards the great potential of the C–H functionalizationstrategy to maximize atom- and step-economy, the approach has been utilized for the synthesis of fluorinated molecules. Moreover, Fluorinated building blocks have been used in organic synthesis over the pastseveral decades;however newer strategies to use these building blocks have recently been explored. In thisreview, we have presented the advances made in the recent past in transition-metal catalyzed directed C–Hfunctionalization with various fluorinated building blocks. The understanding of the mechanistic aspects ofdirected C–H activation has led to efficient design of newer protocols for cross-couplings involving fluorinated building blocks as one of the coupling partners. Furthermore, it has been observed that in almost allcases the outcome of the reaction is greatly influenced by the effect of fluorine.

Effect of Biosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles on Staphylococcus aureus Biofilm Quenching and Prevention of Biofilm Formation

The development of green experimental processes for the synthesis of nanoparticles is a need in the field of nanotechnology. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles was achieved using Bacillus cereus supernatant and1 m M silver nitrate. 100 m M glucose was found to quicken the rate of reaction of silver nanoparticles ***-visible spectrophotometric analysis was carried out to assess the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were further characterized by using Nanoparticle Tracking Analyzer(NTA),Transmission Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersive X-ray spectra. These silver nanoparticles showed enhanced quorum quenching activity against Staphylococcus aureus biofilm and prevention of biofilm formation which can be seen under inverted microscope(40 X). The synergistic effect of silver nanoparticles along with antibiotics in biofilm quenching was found to be effective. In the near future, silver nanoparticles could be used in the treatment of infections caused by highly antibiotic resistant biofilm.

The most remarkable effect in spinel ferrites is the strong dependence of properties on the state of structural disorder and,in particular,on the cation *** structural characterization of a Co-Zn ferrite nanoparticle sample was reported which prepared by wet chemical co-precipitation *** samples were sintered at three different temperatures viz.650℃,850℃ and 1050℃ for 12 *** structural details like:lattice constant and distribution of cations in the tetrahedral and octahedral interstitial voids have been deduced through X-ray diffraction (XRD) data *** constant was found to increase with the increase in Zn2+ ions and sintering *** intensity ratios of (220),(400),(440) planes were considered,as these reflections are sensitive to cations on the A and B *** agreement of the theoretical intensity ratio with the intensity ratio observed from XRD pattern supports the occupancy of Zn2+ ions and Co2+ ions on the octahedral and tetrahedral sites,respectively.

The present study deals with the rapid green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using fresh leaves of Cymbopogan Citratus(Lemongrass). Silver nanoparticles were formed within 8～10 minutes by microwave irradiation using aqueous solution of Ag NO3(1 m M) with fresh leaves extract of Cymbopogan Citratus. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by using UV-visible spectrophotometer analysis, nanoparticle tracking analyzer, transmission electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectra. The antibacterial activity of these nanoparticles was studied against multiple drug resistant hospital isolates of ***, ***,*** and hospital isolates of S. typhi, ***. Also, the antifungal activity of these nanoparticles was studied against ***(hospital isolate) and ***(NCIM 616). The synergistic effect of silver nanoparticles along with antibiotics was also studied against multiple drug resistant hospital isolates and found to be effective. The extracellular synthesis of Silver nanoparticles using leaves of Cymbopogan Citratus appears to be rapid and eco-friendly.

Software Agent Structure for Performance Index Improvement of Cellular Network

Efficient reuse of limited radio spectrum is vital issue to support increasing number of mobile terminals and heterogeneous traffic scenarios. Dynamic channel allocation (DCA) technique is suitable to solve the problem. The drawback of dynamic channel allocation is it may upgrade performance of one cluster and degrade performance of other cluster in large scale cellular network. To balance performance of clusters and increase carried traffic in network, there is need of enhancement of DCA techniques. To introduce improvement in the dynamic channel approach, the paper suggested Multi Agent System (MAS) of physical agents ported at base stations working on the principle of cooperative negotiation to improve the QoS of the network. We formulated an integrated framework which includes fundamental mechanism of call admission control and resource management using hybrid channel allocation (HCA). To balance performance index of various clusters of network, agent negotiation is executed. Our simulation results show that it is possible to significantly enhance performance index of network due to MAS-HCA approach when compared with ES based and ILP based HCA schemes proposed in literature.
