Integrating Radar Altimeters and Optical Imagery Data for Estimating Water Volume Variations in Lakes and Reservoirs (Case Study: Lake Nasser)

Monitoring of variations in water for lakes and reservoirs is a requirement for meeting human needs and assessing ongoing climatic changes. However, regular gauging networks fail to provide the information needed for water volume data. The aim of this study is to evaluate an approach to estimate water volume variation for the southern part of Lake Nasser in Egypt without in-situ gauge measurements and bathymetry maps. Combination of both Hydroweb satellite altimetry and Landsat 8 satellite imagery data was used. As compared to in-situ water levels, satellite altimetry provided accurate water levels variations for Lake Nasser;the RMSE was 0.28 m, with excellent agreement (R2 is 0.98). The lowest water level of altimetry database i.e. 174.57 m was used as a reference level for estimating water volumes variations for the study duration 8/2014-6/2015. All water altimetry levels were converted to differences of recorded water level above the lowest altimetry Level (ΔWL). Series of Landsat 8 imagery data were selected to extract surface areas corresponding to radar altimetry water levels dates. Areas-ΔWL relationship model was established as a polynomial function: A = f(ΔWL), and therefore, the relationship of the water volume above the lowest water level for the study time (ΔV) and ΔWL was obtained through the analytical integration of (Area-ΔWL) model. Another approach (Heron method) was also applied for estimating water volume variations. Validation of these two approaches showed that estimated water volume variations above reference water level using both methods i.e. integration and Heron agreed well with in-situ measurements of volume variation deduced from recent bathymetry map and in-situ water levels (R2 for both methods = 0.98). The RMSE for integration method is 323.89 MCM and for Heron method was 318.09 MCM, being approximately 13.2% of the mean volume variations above the lowest reference water level for mean surface area ≈

The alignment operation between many protein sequences or DNAsequences related to the scientific bioinformatics application is very *** is a trade-off in the objectives in the existing techniques of MultipleSequence Alignment (MSA). The techniques that concern with speed ignoreaccuracy, whereas techniques that concern with accuracy ignore speed. Theterm alignment means to get the similarity in different sequences with highaccuracy. The more growing number of sequences leads to a very complexand complicated problem. Because of the emergence;rapid development;anddependence on gene sequencing, sequence alignment has become importantin every biological relationship analysis process. Calculating the numberof similar amino acids is the primary method for proving that there is arelationship between two sequences. The time is a main issue in any alignmenttechnique. In this paper, a more effective MSA method for handling themassive multiple protein sequences alignment maintaining the highest accuracy with less time consumption is proposed. The proposed method dependson Artificial Fish Swarm (AFS) algorithm that can break down the mostchallenges of MSA problems. The AFS is exploited to obtain high accuracyin adequate time. ASF has been increasing popularly in various applicationssuch as artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, and dataintensive application. It basically mimics the behavior of fish trying to getthe food in nature. The proposed mechanisms of AFS that is like preying,swarming, following, moving, and leaping help in increasing the accuracy andconcerning the speed by decreasing execution time. The sense organs that aidthe artificial fishes to collect information and vision from the environmenthelp in concerning the accuracy. Regulatory and activated effector T cells in chronic hepatitis C virus: Relation to autoimmunity

AIMTo investigate how Tregs are regulated in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients via assessment of Tregs markers (granzyme 2, CD69 and FoxP3), Teffs markers [TNFRSF4 (OX40), INFG] and CD4, CD25 genes. METHODSA prospective study was conducted on 120 subjects divided into 4 groups: Group I (n = 30) treatment naïve chronic HCV patients; Group II (n = 30) chronic HCV treated with Peg/Riba; Group III (n = 30) chronic HCV associated with non-organ specific autoantibody and Group IV (n = 30) healthy persons as a control group. Tregs and Teffs markers were assessed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells by quantitative real time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. RESULTSChronic HCV patients exhibited significant higher levels of both Teffs and Tregs in comparison to healthy control group. Tregs markers were significantly decreased in Peg/Riba treated HCV patients in comparison to treatment naïve HCV group. In HCV patients with antinuclear antibody (ANA) +ve, Tregs markers were significantly decreased in comparison to all other studied groups. Teffs markers were significantly elevated in all HCV groups in comparison to control and in HCV group with ANA +ve in comparison to treatment naïve HCV group. CONCLUSIONElevated Tregs cells in chronic HCV patients dampen both CD4+ and CD8+ autologous T cell immune response. Interferon-α and ribavirin therapy suppress proliferation of Tregs. More significant suppression of Tregs was observed in HCV patients with autoantibodies favoring pathological autoimmune response.

Numerical Simulation of Groundwater Flow and Solute Transport for the Northern Batinah Area, Oman

The northern Batinah occupies approximately 12,150 km2 in the north of Oman Quaternary deposits and Neogene＇s upper Fats form the aquifer units. MODFLOW compatible MT3D was used for simulation development of the area. It can be concluded that：（1） The groundwater in the Batinah area generally flows from the south-west to the gulf of Oman in the north-east; （2） Recharge takes place through direct recharge from rainfall and wadi flow by about 902 ×10^3 ma/day; （3） The hydraulic conductivity attains a relatively wide range between 0.02 m/day and 78 m/day and 0.02 m/day and 60 m/day for the Quaternary and Fars respectively; （4） There is probably less potential for groundwater abstraction in the northern part of the area; （5） The water level decreased by about 6 m over 24 years and （6） The increase of salinity most likely due to a contribution of sea water intrusion from the gulf along the coast. It is recommended that：（1） automatic well control system should be installed to accurate measurements of abstraction; （2） further analysis under different future scenarios should be made and （3） formulate an integrated management plan for the basin.

Infantile Hemangiopericytoma: Two Cases Report and Literature Review

Hemangiopericytoma is a rare vascular tumour of infants. Although generally considered to be benign, local recurrence and metastases can occur. Herein, we report on two full term girls, delivered with lumbosacral swelling and left thigh swelling respectively. Complete surgical excision with safety margins was performed for each lesion. Histologic examination of both lesions showed picture of infantile hemangiopericytoma. There is no evidence of local recurrence or distant metastasis during last 20 and 17 months for 1st case and 2nd case respectively. In conclusion;most infantile hemangiopericytoma follow a benign course. Rarely these tumours behave aggressively with local infiltration, recurrences and even distant metastases. Careful follow up is therefore essential.

Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Three Rows of Vertical Slotted Wall Breakwaters

In this study, we examine the hydrodynamic characteristics of three rows of vertical slotted wall breakwaters in which the front and middle walls are permeable and partially immersed in a water channel of constant depth, whereas the third wall is impermeable. The wave–structure interaction and flow behavior of this type of breakwater arrangement are complicated and must be analyzed before breakwaters can be appropriately designed. To study the hydrodynamic breakwater performance, we developed a mathematical model based on the eigenfunction expansion method and a least squares technique for predicting wave interaction with three rows of vertical slotted wall breakwaters. We theoretically examined the wave transmission, reflection, energy loss, wave runup, and wave force under normal regular waves. Comparisons with experimental measurements show that the mathematical model results adequately reproduce most of the important features. The results of this investigation provide a better understanding of the hydrodynamic performance of triple-row vertical slotted wall breakwaters.
