Many biological settings involve complex fluids that have non-Newtonian mechanical responses that arise from suspended *** contrast,Newtonian fluids are liquids or mixtures of a simple molecular structure that exhibit a linear relationship between the shear stress and the rate of *** modeling complex fluids,the extra stress from the non-Newtonian contribution must be included in the governing *** this study we compare Lagrangian mesh and Oldroyd-b formulations of fluidstructure interaction in an immersed boundary *** start-up phase of planar Poiseuille flow between two parallel plates is used as a test case for the fluid *** Newtonian and Oldroyd-b fluids there exist analytical solutions which are used in the comparison of simulation and theoretical *** Lagrangian mesh results are compared with Oldroyd-b using comparable parameters.A regridding algorithm is introduced for the Lagrangian mesh *** show that the Lagrangian mesh model simulations with regridding produce results in close agreement with the Oldfoyd-b model.

The liver is the organ by which the majority of sub-stances are metabolized, including psychotropic drugs. There are several pharmacokinetic changes in end-stage liver disease that can interfere with the metabolization of psychotropic drugs. This fact is particularly true in drugs with extensive first--pass metabolism, highly protein bound drugs and drugs depending on phase I hepatic metabolic reactions. Psychopharmacological agents are also associated with a risk of hepatotoxicity. The evidence is insufficient for definite conclusions regarding the prevalence and severity of psychiatric drug-induced liver injury. High-risk psychotropics are not advised when there is pre-existing liver disease, and after starting a psychotropic agent in a patient with hepatic impairment, frequent liver function/lesion monitoring is advised. The authors carefully review the pharmacokinetic disturbances induced by end-stage liver disease and the potential of psychopharmacological agents for liver toxicity.

Characterization of Surface State of Inert Particles: Case of Si and SiC

Over the last few years, bioenergy production has undergone a process of rapid development, causing significant impacts on the global food system. Among other things, the resulting increase in demand for agricultural products has had important implications for food security. The alleged causal link between bioenergy production and food security has been the subject of increasing debate. Given the complex nature of bioenergy, debates on the matter often lack a solid scientific basis. The endurance of such debates raises the need for more informed and systematic attention to this issue. The present paper identifies some of the main players in this debate and their arguments in favor or against the expansion of biofuel industries. A case study of the brazilian experience with biofuels will clarify the validity of arguments on both sides of the debate and the potential applicability of the brazilian biofuel model worldwide.

Silicon and Silicon carbide particles have been investigated by the mean of infrared (IR) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to establish their surface states. The results of this research are based on the estimation of the area under the high resolution peaks by isosceles triangles. This approach leads to the repartition of the particles surfaces in term of atomic percentage and of type of bonds. The surface of silicon particles is divided up into 54.85% of Si-O bonds and 36.85% of Si-Si bonds. The remaining surface is constituted of zeolite, the raw material used to produce the silicon particles. The surface of silicon carbide particles consists of 50.44% of Si-C bonds, 24.01% of Si-O bonds and 25.55% of graphite. 10.01% of the graphite is derived from the oxidation of Si-C bonds while 11.48% is due to contamination. The zeta potential evolution versus pH confirms the distribution of chemical groups found.

AIM To investigate the main current etiologies of cirrhosis in *** We performed a cross-sectional retrospective multicenter study that included eight hospitals in different areas of Mexico. These hospitals provide health care to people of diverse social classes. The inclusion criteria were a histological, clinical, biochemical, endoscopic, or imaging diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. Data were obtained during a 5-year period(January 2012-December 2017). RESULTS A total of 1210 patients were included. The mean age was 62.5 years(SD = 12.1), and the percentages of men and women were similar(52.0% vs 48.0%). The most frequent causes of liver cirrhosis were hepatitis C virus(HCV)(36.2%), alcoholic liver disease(ALD)(31.2%), and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(23.2%), and the least frequent were hepatitis b virus(1.1%), autoimmune disorders(7.3%), and other conditions(1.0%).CONCLUSION HCV and ALD are the most frequent causes of cirrhosis in Mexico. However, we note that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) as an etiology of cirrhosis increased by 100% compared with the rate noted previously. We conclude that NAFLD will soon become one of the most frequent etiologies of liver cirrhosis in Mexico.

小肠组织包含CD4^+CD8αα^+双阳性上皮内T淋巴细胞(DP IELs),它们来源于低表达转录因子Th POK的肠道CD4^+T细胞并且具有调节功能。在无菌小鼠中缺乏DP IELs,提示它们的分化依赖于微生物。本研究发现,不同环境下的小鼠DP IELs数量不同,且与罗伊氏乳杆菌的存在有相关性。罗伊氏乳杆菌诱导无菌小鼠DP IELs的产生,而正常饲养小鼠缺乏DP IELs。罗伊氏乳杆菌没有改变DP-IEL-TCR的作用模式,但是产生内源性色氨酸激活CD4^+T细胞的芳烃受体,导致Th POK下调,进而分化成DP IELs。因此,罗伊氏乳杆菌配合色氨酸丰富的日粮,能够将肠道上皮内CD4^+T细胞重塑为免疫调节性T细胞。
