A Rare Case of a Left Ovarian Remnant Syndrome Associated with a Symptomatic Right Ovarian Cyst

Ovarian Remnant syndrome (ORS) is the presence of residual ovarian tissue after an oophorectomy was performed whether associated with a hysterectomy or not. We report the case of a 39-year-old woman with a past surgical history of total abdominal hysterectomy and left salpingo-oophorectomy with an indication of placenta accreta incidentally discovered during a caesarian section. The patient presented with pelvic pain and was diagnosed with ORS. She was successfully managed by laparoscopy with removal of the cyst and the surrounding ovarian tissue, confirmed by histopathological analysis. The post operative period was uneventful, and the patient was discharged after 2 days of good evolution. In our context, surgery remains the main treatment option, however, other treatment options including radiotherapy or medical management need to be considered as either adjunct or main therapy.

Background:In malaria endemic areas,infected blood donors serve as a source of infection to blood recipients,which may adversely affect their *** necessitates the proper screening of blood to be used for transfusion in these *** purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of malaria parasitaemia in blood donors in Buea,Cameroon,and to evaluate the performance of a rapid diagnostic test(RDT),a malaria antibody enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),and a Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase(pLDH)ELISA in the detection of asymptomatic malaria parasitaemia in the target ***:In a prospective study conducted between September 2015 and June 2016,1240 potential blood donors were *** donors were screened for malaria parasites using Giemsa microscopy(GM)and a RDT.A sub-sample of 184 samples,comprising 88 positive and 96 negative samples,were selected for the evaluation of the pLDH ELISA and the antibody *** chi-square test and correlation analysis were performed as part of the statistical *** statistical significance cut-off was set at P<***:The prevalence of malaria parasitaemia in this study was found to be 8.1%(95%CI:6.6-9.7).The prevalence was not observed to be dependent on the age or sex of the *** RDT had a sensitivity(88.0%),specificity(99.1%),and negative predictive value(99.0%)higher than the *** performance of the pLDH ELISA,which demonstrated the highest positive predictive value(91.6%),was generally comparable to the *** sensitivity was lowest with the antibody ELISA(69.9%),which also demonstrated the highest false positive and false negative *** detection threshold for the pLDH(three parasites/μl)was lower compared to the RDT(50-60 parasites/μl).Non-significant positive correlations were observed between the parasite density and the pLDH titers and malaria antibody ***:Overall,the RDT and the pLDH ELISA demonstrated a perfectly correlated agreem

Introduction: Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is the most prevalent genetic disease in the world predominantly in the African population with Sickle Cell Anaemia (SCA) being its dominant form. One of the most frequent complications of SCD is osteomyelitis. SCA is due to a point mutation in the beta globin chain of haemoglobin. This is responsible for the sickled shape of RBCs under low oxygen tension conditions leading to obstruction in the microcirculation. This leads to vaso-occlusive crises (VOC) which has a similar clinical presentation to that of osteomyelitis, another complication of SCD. Case Presentation: We present the case of a three-year-old girl with SCA who presented with an inability to bear weight in a febrile context. A diagnosis of VOC was initially made, which was later on changed to both a left chronic tibial and right distal femoral osteomyelitis following a series of biological, and imaging investigations. Surgical debridement and drainage were performed, resulting 9 weeks later in the involution of fever and leg pain. This study aims to investigate the ability of an imidazolium biobased Zwitterionic Ionic Liquids(ZILs)in enhancing the phytoavailability of copper from garden(G)and vineyard(V)soils using the model plant *** and artificially contaminated CuSO_(4) soils,unamended and ZIL-amended soil modalities were *** copper/ZIL molar ratio(1/4)introduced was rationally established based on molecular modeling and on the maximal copper concentration in artificially contaminated *** accumulation of copper in the shoots was detected for the uncontaminated and copper contaminated ZIL amended V soils(18.9 and 23.3 mg/kg,respectively)contrary to G soils together with a ZIL concentration of around 3%(W/W)detected by LC-MS *** data evidenced a Cu-accumulation improvement of 38%and 66%compared to non-amended V soils(13.6 and 13.9 mg/kg respectively).ZIL would be mainly present under Cu(II)-ZIL_(4) complexes in the *** impact on the chemical composition of shoot was also *** results show that depending on the soils modalitity,the presence of free copper and/or ZIL led to different chemical compositions in lignin and monomeric sugar *** the biorefinery context,performances of enzymatic hydrolysis of shoots were also related to the presence of both ZIL and copper under free or complex *** assessment of the vineyard soil samples indicated that the quantity of copper and ZIL remaining in the soils had no significant *** amendment in a copper-contaminated soil was demonstrated as being a promising way to promote the valorization of phytoremediation plants.

AIM： To determine which IIRC scheme was used by retinoblastoma centers worldwide and the percentage of D eyes treated primarily with enucleation versus globe salvaging therapies as well as to correlate trends in treatment choice to IIRC version used and geographic region. METHODS： An anonymized electronic survey was offered to 115 physicians at 39 retinoblastoma centers worldwide asking about IIRC classification schemes and treatment patterns used between 2008 and 2012. Participants were asked to record which version of the IIRC was used for classification, how many group D eyes were diagnosed, and how many eyes were treated with enucleation versus globe salvaging therapies. Averages of eyes per treatment modality were calculated and stratified by both IIRC version and geographic region. Statistical significance was determined by Chi-square, ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests using Prism. RESULTS： The survey was completed by 29% of physicians invited to participate. Totally 1807 D eyes were diagnosed. Regarding IIRC system, 27% of centers used the Children＇s Hospital of Los Angeles （CHLA） version, 33% used the Children＇s Oncology Group （COG） version, 23% used the Philadelphia version, and 17% were unsure. The rate for primary enucleation varied between 0 and 100% and the mean was 29%. By IIRC version, primary enucleation rates were： Philadelphia, 8%; COG, 34%; and CHLA, 37%. By geographic region, primary enucleation rates were： Latin America, 57%; Asia, 40%; Europe, 36%; Africa, 10%, US, 8%; and Middle East, 8%. However, systemic chemoreduction was used more often than enucleation in all regions except Latin America with a mean of 57% per center （P〈0.0001）. CONCLUSION： Worldwide there is no consensus on which IIRC version is used, systemic chemoreduction was the most frequently used initial treatment during the study period followed by enucleation and primary treatment modality, especially enucleation, varied greatly with regards to IIRC version used and geographic r
