Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most frequent neurodegenerative *** pathology is characterized by protein aggregates,mainly constituted by amyloid peptide and tau,leading to neuronal death and cognitive *** currently proposed to treat this pathology do not prevent neurodegenerative processes and are mainly symptomatic ***,stilbenes presenting multiple pharmacological effects could be good potential therapeutic *** aim of this review is to gather the more significant papers among the broad literature on this topic,concerning the beneficial effects of stilbenes (resveratrol derivatives) in animal models of Alzheimer’s ***,numerous studies focus on cellular models,but an in vivo approach remains of primary importance since in animals (mice or rats,generally),bioavailability and metabolism are taken into account,which is not the case in in vitro ***,examination of memory ability is feasible in animal models,which strengthens the relevance of a compound with a view to future therapy in *** paper is addressed to any researcher who needs to study untested natural stilbenes or who wants to experiment the most effective natural stilbenes in largest animals or in *** review shows that resveratrol,the reference polyphenol,is largely studied and seems to have interesting properties on amyloid plaques,and cognitive ***,some resveratrol derivatives such as gnetin C,trans-piceid,or astringin have never been tested on ***,pterostilbene is of particular interest,by its improvement of cognitive disorders and its neuroprotective *** could be relevant to evaluate this molecule in clinical trials.

Comparison and assessment of time integration algorithms for nonlinear vibration systems

A corrected explicit method of double time steps(CEMDTS) was introduced to accurately simulate nonlinear vibration problems in engineering. The CEMDTS, the leapfrog central difference method, the newmark method, the generalized-a method and the precise integration method were implemented in typical nonlinear examples for the purpose of comparison. Both conservative and non-conservative systems were examined. The results show that it isn't unconditionally stable for the precise integration method, the newmark method and the generalized-a method in nonlinear systems. The stable interval of the three methods is less than that of the CEMDTS. When a small time step(?t≤T_(min)/20) is employed, the precise integration method is endowed with the highest accuracy while the CEMDTS possesses the smallest computation effort. However, the CEMDTS becomes the most accurate one when the time step is large(?t≥0.3T_(min)) or the system is strongly nonlinear. Therefore, the CEMDTS is more applicable to the nonlinear vibration systems.

Natural polyphenols effects on protein aggregates in Alzheimer＇s and Parkinson＇s prion-like diseases

Alzheimer＇s and Parkinson＇s diseases are the most common neurodegenerative diseases. They are characterized by protein aggregates and so can be considered as prion-like disease. The major components of these deposits are amyloid peptide and tau for Alzheimer＇s disease, α-synuclein and synphilin-1 for Parkinson＇s disease. Drugs currently proposed to treat these pathologies do not prevent neurodegenerative processes and are mainly symptomatic therapies. Molecules inducing inhibition of aggregation or disaggregation of these proteins could have beneficial effects, especially if they have other beneficial effects for these diseases. Thus, several natural polyphenols, which have antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, have been largely studied, for their effects on protein aggregates found in these diseases, notably in vitro. In this article, we propose to review the significant papers concerning the role of polyphenols on aggregation and disaggregation of amyloid peptide, tau, α-synuclein, synphilin-1, suggesting that these compounds could be useful in the treatments in Alzheimer＇s and Parkinson＇s diseases.

Modelling and Optimisation of Copper Adsorption in Solution by the Response Surface Method

Copper is considered a heavy metal that can be toxic at certain concentrations and its presence in water is a potential threat to public health. These heavy metals also contribute to a remarkable degradation of the environment, hence the need for effective treatment methods to remove them. In this study, a mixture of titaniferous sand and calcium silicate was used as adsorbent material to eliminate copper in solution. The calcium silicate was synthesised from fluosilicic acid, which is a by-product of phosphoric acid manufacture. The titaniferous sand is a residue from a mining industry. Both adsorbents were characterised by infrared spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence to determine their compositions and physicochemical properties. The response surfaces, through the Box-Behnken model, were used to model and optimise various adsorption parameters, namely initial copper concentration (A: 60 - 200 mg/L), adsorbent dose (B: 0.1 - 0.6 g) and pH (C: 4 - 10). The copper removal efficiency (98.92%), after statistical analysis, was obtained under the following optimal conditions: an adsorbent dose of 0.55 g, an initial copper concentration of 197.25 mg/L and a pH of 9.85. The study of the effects of the operating parameters showed that they had a positive effect on the copper removal efficiency.

Strong dependency of the tribological behavior of CuZr-based bulk metallic glasses on relative humidity in ambient air

Thanks to their outstanding mechanical properties,Bulk Metallic Glasses(BMGs)are new alternatives to traditional crystalline metals for mechanical and micromechanical applications including power ***,the tribological properties of BMGs are still poorly understood,mostly because their amorphous nature induces counter intuitive responses to friction and *** the present study,four different BMGs(Cu_(47)Zr_(46)Al_(7),Zr_(46)Cu_(45)Al_(7)Nb_(2),Zr_(60)Cu_(28)Al_(12),and Zr_(61)Cu_(25)Al_(12)Ti_(2))underwent ball-on-disc friction tests against 100Cr6 steel balls(American Iron and Steel Institute(AISI)52100)at different relative humidities(RHs)ranging from 20%to 80%.Controlling humidity enabled to observe a high repeatability of the friction and wear responses of the ***,the friction coefficient decreased by a factor of 2 when the humidity was increased,and the wear rate of BMGs was particularly low thanks to a 3rd-body tribolayer that forms on the BMG surface,composed of oxidized wear particles originating from the *** morphology of this tribolayer is highly correlated to *** study also identifies how the tribolayer is built up from the initial contact until the steady state is achieved.

Dispersal and its evolution play a key role for population persistence in fragmented landscapes where habitat loss and fragmentation increase the cost of between-habitat *** such contexts,it is important to know how variation in dispersal and other traits is structured,and whether responses to landscape fragmentation are aligned with underlying dispersal-trait correlations,or dispersal ***,therefore,studied trait variation in Erigone longipalpis,a European spider species specialist of(often patchy)salt *** collected spiders in two salt-marsh landscapes differing in habitat *** then reared lab-born spiders for two generations in controlled conditions,and measured dispersal and its association with various key *** longipalpis population densities were lower in the more fragmented *** this,we found no evidence of differences in dispersal,or any other trait we studied,between the two *** a dispersal syndrome was present at the among-individual level(dispersers were more fecund and faster growing,among others),there was no indication it was genetically driven:among-family differences in dispersal were not correlated with differences in other ***,we showed that the observed phenotypic covariations were mostly due to within-family *** hypothesize that the dispersal syndrome is the result of asymmetric food access among siblings,leading to variation in development rates and carrying over to adult *** results show we need to better understand the sources of dispersal variation and syndromes,especially when dispersal may evolve rapidly in response to environmental change.

Formation building and collision avoidance for a fleet of NAOs based on optical sensor with local positions and minimum communication

Multi-robot system has become a research hotspot because of low demand on the sensors’ accuracy, high reliability, and high efficiency. To put all the robots together, formation control is a crucial problem. In this paper, we propose a local position-based method to plan trajectories and build a pyramid pattern for a fleet of NAOs in the obstacle-free environment by refering to the position-based method and giving an O(n log n) collision avoidance strategy inspired from one graph theory, where the local positions are estimated from optical sensors. To get the local positions, an integrated image processing method is developped. Firstly a mask-base is generated to store the features of NAOs, and a cross-correlation method is introduced to recognize the NAO. Subsequently, the distance and angle models are proposed to get the local information from a single image. Then, a visual compass is introduced to obtain the orientation of one NAO. After the local information exchange by the WiFi communication, a neighbor-check method is put foward to distinguish the homogeneous NAOs(all the NAOs look like the same). Further, a common frame is constructed as an artificial global frame, and straight non-intercrossing trajectories are planned according to the O(n log n) collision avoidance strategy. At last, the performance of our proposed local position-based method is verified by the simulations with up to 15 robots and the indoor experiments with 3 NAOs in a real environment. The convergence of the method has been demonstrated in both obstacle-free and static obstacle environments.

Introduction: Pregnancy as much as childbirth constitutes a risky situation, potentially fraught with sometimes dramatic complications: maternal death. Objective: We conducted this study with the aim of establishing the profile of those giving birth in our context with the aim to anticipate operationally in the future on morbidity but more on maternal deaths. Methodology: We conducted, using a structured questionnaire, a prospective descriptive study in representative maternity wards in the city of Douala;the study variables were socio-economic, anthropometric, obstetrical and clinical. Statistical analyses were carried out with CS Pro 7.3 and SPSS version 25.0 software. The Student, Chi-square and Fischer tests were used to compare the means of the variables and the percentages. Results: We recruited 305 births for our study. The average age of our births was 28.7 years ± 6.1 with an average height of 161.6 cm ± 5.06;an average body mass index at the start of pregnancy of 28.0 kilograms/square meter and 31.3 kilograms/square meter at delivery;the average weight gain was 8.4 g ± 5.37;an average gestation of 2.84±1.90;an average parity of 2.2 ± 2.1 with an average birth interval of 27.7 months ± 23.7. The average gestational age was 39.2 weeks ± 1.21 with pregnancy pathology dominated by malaria;85.9% began their prenatal follow-up before the 14th week of amenorrhea. Conclusion: The profile of childbirth in urban Cameroon does not seem potentially dystocic compared to that of the same regional and racial area.

Product Data Model for Performance-driven Design

When designing large-sized complex machinery products, the design focus is always on the overall per- formance; however, there exist no design theory and method based on performance driven. In view of the defi- ciency of the existing design theory, according to the performance features of complex mechanical products, the performance indices are introduced into the traditional design theory of ＂Requirement-Function-Structure＂ to construct a new five-domain design theory of ＂Client Requirement-Function-Performance-Structure-Design Parameter＂. To support design practice based on this new theory, a product data model is established by using per- formance indices and the mapping relationship between them and the other four domains. When the product data model is applied to high-speed train design and combining the existing research result and relevant standards, the corresponding data model and its structure involving five domains of high-speed trains are established, which can provide technical support for studying the relationships between typical performance indices and design parame- ters and the fast achievement of a high-speed train scheme design. The five domains provide a reference for the design specification and evaluation criteria of high speed train and a new idea for the train＇s parameter design.
