Background: s.igella is.one of the mos. s.rious.pathogens.as.ociated with bloody diarrhea in children. The empiric antibiotic therapy of enteric illnes. with blood s.reaked s.ool leads.to emergence of multi drug res.s.ant (MDR) s.igella. The condition gets.exacerbated by pres.nce of integrons.that facilitate the horizontal s.read. Virulence genes.as.ociated with MDR s.igella modulate the patient outcome, particularly in children. Objectives. The pres.nt s.udy was.aiming at is.lation of MDR s.igella from children with diarrheal s.cknes. and characterization of thos. is.lates.as.regarding pres.nce of clas. 1 integras. and other virulence genes. Methods. Four hundred and ninety patients.under the age of five s.ffering from diarrheal illnes. were examined for pres.nce of s.igella in their s.ool s.ecimens. MDR s.igella was.determined us.ng the antibiotic s.s.eptibility tes.ing by dis. diffus.on method;thos. is.lates.were tes.ed for pres.nce of clas. 1 integras. by PCR. Multiplex PCR as.ay was.us.d to determine the pres.nce of virulence genes. virA, ial, s.n, s.t1A, s.t1B, s.t, ipaBCD, ipaH and s.x in the MDR s.igella is.lates. Res.lts. The is.lation rate of s.igella from pediatric patients.was.5.3%. Mos. of the is.lated s.igella (57.7%) were from infants.between 12 and 23 month. 73.1% of the identified s.igella were MDR. intI1 gene was.pres.nt in 78.9% of MDR is.lates. Muliplex PCR revealed that ipaH and ipaBCD, virA, s.t, ial, s.t1A and s.t1B, s.n were detected in 94.7%, 78.9%, 73.7%, 68.4%, 42.1%, 36.8% of the MDR s.igella is.lates.res.ectively. Conclus.on: The MDR is.lates.repres.nted a cons.derable percentage of s.igella detected in pediatric patients. Pres.nce of intI1 gene in mos. of MDR s.igella reflects.the higher pos.ibility of res.s.ant s.rains.s.read. Exis.ence of a variety of virulence genes.in thos. is.lates.is.an important indicator of s.rious.dis.as. outcome.

Urine YKL-40 vers.s.Urine NGAL as.Potential Markers.for Diagnos.s.of Urinary Tract Infection in Febrile Pediatric Patients

Early diagnos.s.of urinary tract infection (UTI) in pediatric patients.is.a prob-lem due to the abs.nce of s.ecific s.mptoms.and difficulty in obtaining the proper urine s.mple. Thes. difficulties.increas. the need for effective biomarker for UTI diagnos.s.in young patients. Neutrophil gelatinas.-as.ociated lipocalin (NGAL) is.proved to be a marker for UTI diagnos.s. YKL-40 is.a glycos.l hydrolas. which is.produced locally at the s.tes.of inflammation. The objective of our s.udy is.to as.es. the value of YKL-40 as.a pos.ible marker for UTI diagnos.s.in febrile children and to compare its.value vers.s.NGAL. Urine culture was.us.d as.a gold s.andard for UTI diagnos.s. The s.udy enrolled three groups.febrile children with pos.tive urine culture, febrile children with negative urine culture, and controls.without fever and with negative urine culture. Each group included 50 children from patients.attended outpatients.clinics.department of Mans.ura Univers.ty Children Hos.ital. For each patient enrolled in the s.udy, complete blood count, C-reactive protein, s.rum creatinine, urine creatinine, routine urine analys.s.and urine culture were as.es.ed. Us.ng ELIs. tes., urine values.of NGAL (uNGAL) and YKL-40 (uYKL-40) were meas.red and normalized to urine creatinine (uNGAL/uCr) and (uYKL40/uCr) res.ectively. The values.of uNGAL, uYKL-40, uNGAL/Cr and uYKL-40/Cr were s.gnificantly higher in febrile UTI group. The receiver operating curve (ROC) s.ow the optimum cut off value for urine YKL-40 (171.5 pg) with 84% s.ns.ivity, 82% s.ecificity and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) 0.95. The optimum cutoff value of uYKL-40/Cr was.(159.2 pg/mg) with 72% s.ns.tivity, 71% s.ecificity and 0.81 AUC. Higher s.ns.tivity and s.ecificity of uYKL-40 and uYKL40/Cr compared to uNGAL and uNGAL/Cr res.ectively were obs.rved. In conclus.on, the diagnos.ic value of uYKL-40 is.s.perior to that of uNGAL. Urine YKL-40 could be a good marker for diagnos.s.of UTI in febrile pediatric patients.

s.rong>Background:s.rong> Colon cancer (CC) ranks as the third most common cancer worldwide and is considered the second leading cause of cancer death. Recently, many international studies have made the observation that right and left colon cancer have many significant differences regarding clinico-pathological s.an>s.an>characteristics and primary tumor location has a crucial impact on treatment outcomes and overall survival. Our study was conducted to verify the presence of significant differences between right and left colon cancer. Patients and Methods: This study is a retrospective cohort study which aimed at comparing right and left colon cancer as regards clinico-pathological data and treatment results among patients with colon cancer receiving treatment at South Egypt Cancer Institute (SECI) during the period from 1/2008 to 12/2018. A sample size of 160 cases of colon cancer patients (80 diagnosed as right colon cancer and 80 diagnosed as left colon cancer) was randomly selected from our South Egypt Cancer Institute (SECI)’s tumor registry. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS program version 20. 在畜禽日粮中添加含有生物活性成分的草本植物作为天然饲料添加剂已显示出良好的应用前景。这些添加剂能够促进生长,提高饲料利用效率,改善营养消化、抗氧化状态、免疫指标和家禽健康状况。一些人研究了含有部分甘草的复方草药,然而关于单独使用甘草的报道却很少。当前家禽业面临的主要问题是流行性疾病,主要是呼吸系统、消化系统和免疫系统疾病。甘草含有一些生物活性成分,如黄酮和甘草酸苷。这种药草的根含有1%~9%的甘草酸苷,具有抗氧化、抗病毒、抗感染、抗炎等药理作用。甘草提取物(LE)对治疗免疫系统、肝脏和肺病等高发疾病有积极作用。研究表明,添加在饮用水中添加甘草提取物(0.1、0.2或0.3 g/L)可降低肉鸡血清中的总胆固醇(P<0.05)。此外,在家禽日粮中添加甘草提取物可促进器官发育,促进消化,增加食欲,促进生产。甘草除了具有促进生长的作用外,还具有解毒、抗氧化、抗菌、抗炎和其他有益于家禽健康的功效。本文综述了甘草(Glycyrrhiza glabra)的用途和近年来的研究进展,其中包括甘草的化学成分和对家禽健康的保护作用。
