Nutritional Quality of Biscuit Supplemented with Wheat Bran and Date Palm Fruits (<i>Phoenix dactylifera</i>L.)

Fruits of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) are consumed throughout the world and are a vital component of the diet in most Arabian countries. The effect of partial replacement of wheat flour with a 1:1 mixture of wheat bran and date palm fruit powder on rheological properties of the biscuit dough was studied. Levels of mixture used were 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%. Dough rheology (farinograph, extensograph properties) and biscuit quality (physical properties, colour, sensory evaluation) were assessed. results obtained indicated that water absorption gradually increased by increasing the levels of wheat bran: palm date powder, meanwhile mixing tolerance index decreased. Dough stability, which indicates the dough strength, also found to decrease by increasing mixture of wheat bran and date powder (1:1). Furthermore, dough development time gradually increased by increasing the mixture at all levels. It was 6.04 min at level of 40% compared to the control (2.5 min). Extensograph results showed that dough energy and dough resistance to extension and proportional number also increased compared with control sample. The proportional number (r/E) ratios increased largely from 3.20 to 5.27 at the level of 40.0%. Ash and fibre contents gradually increased as the mixture levels increased. However, mineral content progressively increased by increasing the level of date powder in the mixture. Incorporation of wheat bran and date powder mixture decreased the spread of the biscuits from 55.66 to 52.82 mm without change in the thickness of the biscuits. Organoleptic properties revealed that quality of biscuits was acceptable at mixture level of 30%.

The extensive land use conversion expected to occur to meet demands for bioenergy feedstock production will likely have widespread impacts on agroecosystem biodiversity and ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration. Although arthropod detritivores are known to contribute to litter decomposition and thus energy flow and nutrient cycling in many plant communities, their importance in bioenergy feedstock communities has not yet been assessed. We undertook an experimental study quantifying rates of litter mass loss and nutrient cycling in the presence and absence of these organisms in three bioenergy feedstock crops—miscanthus （Miscanthus x giganteus）, switchgrass （Panicum virgatum）, and a planted prairie community. Overall arthropod abundance and litter decomposition rates were similar in all three communities. Despite effective reduction of arthropods in experimental plots via insecticide application, litter decomposition rates, inorganic nitrogen leaching, and carbon–nitrogen ratios did not differ significantly between control （with arthropods） and treatment （without arthropods） plots in any of the three community types. Our findings suggest that changes in arthropod faunal composition associated with widespread adoption of bioenergy feedstock crops may not be associated with profoundly altered arthropod-mediated litter decomposition and nutrient release.

Acute and chronic hyperkalemia is linked to higher hospitalization rates and mortality rates. It has a high prevalence among dialysis and non-dialysis patients in Egypt. The current therapy options are not that ideal. Moreover, we have a critical management paradox in cardiorenal diseases: Should we use the optimum dose of rAASi with its higher incidence of HK, or should we decrease the dose or even stop it with all its harmful hazards? Therefore, in light of the recent updates in different clinical practice guidelines, we, a country-specific (Egypt) task force, gathered to develop a clear, evidence-based, and multi-disciplinary consensus for managing HK. This manuscript illustrates the recommendations of this expert committee. The panel recommends new evidenced K binders like Sodium Zirconium Cyclosilicate (SZC) and patiromer to help manage HK in cardiorenal patients as stated by different international guidelines. In emergency settings, SZC can have a role in managing acute HK;however, it should be used in addition to other drugs like insulin and glucose. Local research studies on the utilization of these novel K binders are highly recommended. The utilization of these novel K binders as prophylaxis should be tested first in a well-designed randomized controlled trial.

The effect of carbapenem resistance in Klebsiellae on infection outcomes in animals and birds

It is often said that the emergence of antimicrobial drug resistance(AMr)in pathogens is the major cause of *** the present study,clinical microbiology data on infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae strains and their antimicrobial drug resistance specifically to carbapenems retrieved from Clinical Epidemiology database of the Institute were analysed to determine the impact of carbapenem resistance in Klebsiellae isolated from the clinical samples of veterinary cases and outcome of the infection because in a few recent reports it is claimed that the presence of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiellae is associated with higher mortality in humans due to Klebsiella *** retrospective analysis of Klebsiella infections in animals and birds revealed that 21.8%of *** causing pneumonic or septicemic infections were carbapenem-resistant but the carbapenem resistance was not associated with increased numbers of deaths or *** may be probably due to the fact that carbapenem drugs were not used for the treatment of infected animals and carbapenem resistance may not be associated with the lethality potential of Klebsiellae.

A Quick Algorithm for Mining Exceptional rules

Exceptional rules are often ignored because of their small support. However, they have high confidence, so they are useful sometimes. A new algorithm for mining exceptional rules is presented, which creates a large itemset from a relatively small database and scans the whole database only one time to generate all exceptional rules. This algorithm is proved to be quick and effective through its application in a mushroom database.

The Use of High Tunnels to Produce Fruit and Vegetable Crops in North America

High tunnels have been used in the United States for more than 50 years, and growers are encouraged to use them more frequently through government cost-share programs. research on fruits and vegetable production systems has focused on high value crops such as tomato, salad greens, and several fruit crops. Maintaining soil quality and controlling insects and diseases are all issues that growers face. This review looks at current research on these issues as well as economic considerations addressed in the scientific literature. Global statistics and reports are also reviewed that complement the North American studies. Gaps in our understanding are identified, and directions for future research are suggested.

AIM To determine whether successful treatment with direc-tacting antivirals(DAA) is associated with improvements in hemoglobin A1 c(HbA1 c) and if type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2 DM) or metabolic syndrome affects sustained virologic response(SVr).METHODS We performed a retrospective analysis of all hepatitis C virus(HCV) patients at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System treated with varying DAA therapy between 2014-2016. Separate multivariable logistic regression was performed to determine predictors of HbA1 c decrease ≥ 0.5 after DAA treatment and predictors of SVr 12-wk post treatment(SVr12).rESULTS A total of 1068 patients were treated with DAA therapy between 2014-2016. The presence of T2 DM or metabolic syndrome did not adversely affect SVr12. 106 patients had both HCV and T2 DM. Within that cohort,patients who achieved SVr12 had lower mean HbA1 c pre treatment(7.35 vs 8.60,P = 0.02),and lower mean HbA1 c post-treatment compared to non-responders(6.55 vs 8.61,P = 0.01). The mean reduction in HbA1 c after treatment was greater for those who achieved SVr12 than for non-responders(0.79 vs 0.01,P = 0.03). In adjusted models,patients that achieved SVr12 were more likely to have a HbA1 c decrease of ≥ 0.5 than those that did not achieve SVr12(adjusted Or = 7.24,95%CI: 1.22-42.94). CONCLUSION In HCV patients with T2 DM,successful treatment with DAA was associated with a significant reduction in HbA1 c suggesting that DAA may have a role in improving insulin sensitivity. Furthermore,the presence of T2 DM or metabolic syndrome does not adversely affect SVr12 rates in patients treated with DAA.
