Potential Use of a Poultry Manure Digestate as a Biofertiliser:Evaluation of Soil Properties and Lactuca sativa Growth

Anaerobic digestion is a process that is widely used for the treatment of organic wastes. The digestate can be used as a soil amendment or crop fertiliser. The aims of our work were to evaluate 1) the physicochemical composition and pathogen content in a digestate from poultry manure, according to international regulations, and 2) the effect of its soil application on the major chemical and biological soil properties and on the growth of Lactuca sativa. The experiment consisted of two groups of pots(with and without crop). Treatments applied to each group were as follows: low and high doses of digestate and inorganic fertiliser, and no application(control)(low dose: 70 kg nitrogen(N) ha^(-1) and 21 kg phosphorus(P) ha^(-1); high dose: 210 kg N ha^(-1) and 63 kg P ha^(-1)). Soil samples were taken 7 and 34 d(harvest) after treatment applications. Heavy metal and pathogen contents in the digestate were below the upper limit values. Despite the high pH and electrical conductivity values of the digestate, both soil parameters presented acceptable values for crop growth. Although there were no initial increases in total inorganic N and available P in soil with digestate application, an increase in the fresh weight of crop was observed with the high dose application. This is probably associated with the slow nutrient release from the digestate during the development of the crop. Changes in the microbial community were temporary and occurred at the initial sampling stage of the experiment.

Collaterals of Life: Fistulous Communication of Vieussens’ Arterial Ring

The Vieussens’ arterial ring (VAR) is a rare coronary anomaly that may be associated with a pulmonary fistula, and has been linked to ischemia, myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias, and sudden death. We present the case of a 54-year-old man who was admitted to the emergency room with angina and dyspnea on moderate exertion, in the context of atrial fibrillation and decompensated heart failure with left ventricular systolic dysfunction. In the study of its etiology, coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) identified an anomalous conal artery outflow (type C) as part of the VAR and a fistula to the pulmonary artery trunk (variant 1b), with an arterial flow linking the conal artery and the middle third of the left anterior descending artery (LAD), which then fistulized to the pulmonary artery trunk. The hemodynamic and clinical repercussions presented with signs of ischemia in the LAD territory and acute heart failure. In this case, CCTA identified the coronary anomaly and its trajectory with great precision through volume rendering reconstruction, as well as the dynamics of coronary flow in the presence of the pulmonary fistula. This anatomical variant is rarely described, and CCTA is of great utility in the therapeutic decision for fistula closure.

Plasma erythropoietin levels in anaemic and non-anaemic patients with chronic liver diseases

AIM: To investigate the serum erythropoietin (Epo) levels in patients with chronic liver diseases and to compare to subjects with iron-deficiency anaemia and healthy ***: We examined 31 anaemic (ALC) and 22 non-anaemic (NALC) cirrhotic patients, 21 non-anaemic subjects with chronic active hepatitis (CAH), 24 patients with iron-deficiency anaemia (ID) and 15 healthy controls. Circulating Epo levels (ELISA; R&D Systems, Europe Ltd, Abingdon,UK) and haemoglobin (Hb) concentration were determined in all ***: Mean±SD of Epo values was 26.9±10.8 mU/mL in ALC patients, 12.5±8.0 mU/mL in NALC subjects,11.6±6.3 mU/mL in CAH patients, 56.4±12.7 mU/mL in the cases of ID and 9.3±2.6 mU/mL in controls. No significant difference (P>0.05) was found in Epo levels between controls, CAH and NALC patients. ALC individuals had higher Epo levels (P<0.01) than these groups whereas ID subjects had even higher levels (P<0.001) than patients suffering from ***: Increased Epo values in cirrhotics, are only detectable when haemoglobin was lesser than 12 g/***, this rise in value is lower than that observed in anaemic patients with iron-deficiency and appears blunted and inadequate in comparison to the degree of anaemia.

Dissolution method for delapril and manidipine combination tablets based on an absorption profile of manidipine

The present study describes the development and validation of a dissolution method for delapril （DEL） and manidipine （MAN） combination tablets, using a simulated absorption profile based on in vivo data for MAN. The suitable in vitro dissolution profile for this formulation was obtained using 900 mL of citrate buffer pH 3.2 at 37 ℃ ± 0.5 ℃ as dissolution medium and USP apparatus 2 （paddle） at 75 rpm. All samples were analyzed by a liquid chromatography （LC） method. Under these conditions, a significant linear relationship between the absorbed （calculated by deconvolution approach） and dissolved fractions of MAN was obtained （R=0.997） and an in vivo-in vitro （IVIV） correlation for this particular formulation containing MAN can be established. Validation parameters for dissolution methodology such as the specificity, linearity, accuracy and precision were also evaluated according to the international guidelines, giving results within the acceptable range. Therefore, the proposed dissolution conditions can be applied for the simultaneous release analysis of DEL and MAN from the solid dosage form, contributing to the improvement of the quality control of pharmaceutics and minimizing the number of bioavailability studies.

Fetal Hemodynamic Response to Maternal Isometric Exercise

Background: Studies on physical activity during pregnancy and its impact on mother and fetus are still limited. International protocols consider only aerobic exercise and fail to provide information about other modalities such as isometric exercise. Isometric exercise promotes cardiorespiratory resistance and muscle strengthening, but it is rarely tested on pregnant women because it increases maternal blood pressure and can subsequently affect placental circulation. Objective: To evaluate maternal and fetal response of low-risk pregnant women undergoing isometric testing through a Doppler velocimetry study. Methodology: A cross-sectional, experimental study was performed on 46 healthy pregnant women (gestational age between 26 and 36 weeks) who underwent isometric testing. This testing was performed using a handgrip dynamometer to measure maternal and fetal hemodynamic parameters before, during, and after isometric testing. Results: There was a significant increase in systolic blood pressure (BP;pre-isometrics 113.13 ± 9.92 mmHg, during isometrics 117.13 ± 10.24 mmHg, and post-isometrics 112.43 ± 9.87 mmHg, p 0.001) and heart rate (HR;pre-isometrics 87.52 ± 14.10 bpm, during isometrics 97.61 ± 14.83 bpm, and post-isometrics 85.13 ± 13.24 bpm, p 0.001). There were significant decreases in the pulsatility index (PI;pre-isometrics 0.63 ± 0.15, during isometrics 0.56 ± 0.15, and post-isometrics 0.65 ± 0.17, p = 0.001), resistance index (RI;pre-isometrics 0.44 ± 0.08, during isometrics 0.40 ± 0.07, and post-isometrics 0.45 ± 0.08, p = 0.001), and systolic/diastolic (S/D) ratio (pre-isometrics 1.81 ± 0.26, during isometrics 1.69 ± 0.24, and post-isometrics 1.85 ± 0.29, p 0.001) of the left uterine artery (UA). These results showed significant changes only during the isometric exercise, and not between the pre- and post-isometric exercises. There were no significant differences in fetal parameters when the results before, during, and after the isometric test were compared.

近年来,随着网络的发展,词根加词缀的构词方式越来越普遍,词缀的强能产性使人们在日常交际中不断的组成新词语,得以发展。词缀的特殊现象引起了学者的广泛关注,关于这方面的研究成果颇丰,但是对于汉语与西班牙语表人词缀方面的研究较少,且不具有系统性,存在一定的研究价值,尤其在对外汉语教学方面,笔者发现,能把握词缀规律及用法的学习者,可以举一反三、提高词汇量、更好地接受流行网络语言、理解中国现代文化。本文通过汉语与西班牙语表人词缀进行对比,分析两种语言在词缀方面的相同以及不同之处,并进行研究,最后从词汇、语用、文化方面解释,并针对母语为西班牙语学生学习汉语词缀的特点提出相应教学建议,并附上教学案例。本文共有五个章节:第一章是本文的绪论,主要包括汉语表人词缀的研究现状、创新点及意义、研究方法。第二章,描述了汉语与西班牙语表人词缀的特点。首先,在前人研究的基础上,分别对汉语和西班牙语词缀的特点进行描述。其次,笔者根据前人提出有关于词缀的定义,界定本文的研究范围:汉语表人词缀一共37个,西班牙语表人词缀一共10个。第三章,从构词方式与语义的角度,分析本文研究范围中所包含的汉语与西班牙语表人词缀。并在分析每个词缀时,附上了该词缀的演变史。第四章,针对汉语的表人词缀和西班牙语的表人词缀进行比较研究,分成有规律的、无规律的以及一些特殊情况进行分别阐述。最后一章,笔者根据研究结果对教学提出了可行性较强的建议和意见,并进行了教学案例的展示。

Iatrogenic Oesophageal Perforations in Neoplastic Lesions: Management with Covered Self-Expanding Prostheses

Background:Perforation of the oesophagus is a serious condition. Most of them are iatrogenic and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality, especially with late diagnosis. Aim: To prospectively analyse the results of the endoscopic management of iatrogenic perforations in oesophageal neoplasia, through the immediate insertion of a covered self-expanding prosthesis (CSES). Materials and Methods: Between 01.01.2006 and 12.30.2016, a series of 19 consecutive patients attended the Teaching Unit of Endoscopic Surgery of the Regional de Concepción Hospital, Chile, with the diagnosis of oesophageal neoplasia confirmed by biopsy were prospectively studied. All were subjected to a prior evaluation by the oncology team and subsequently referred for endoscopic palliative management of dysphagia. The average age was 77 ± 9.3 years, 8 (42.1%) were female and 11 (57.9%) were male. In 17 patients (89.5%) the stenosis compromised the oesophagus, in 2 (10.5%) the gastro-oesophageal junction, 16 had a squamous carcinoma (84.2%) and 3 an adenocarcinoma (15.8%). Results: Perforation was diagnosed during the procedure in 18 patients (94.7%) and in 1 (5.3%) 22 hours later. Follow-up was done for a minimum of 90 days or until death. The prostheses were inserted successfully in all cases. The immediate evolution was satisfactory in 12 patients (63.2%). In the rest (36.8%), 18 complications appeared.
