Simultaneous screening and classification of diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration based on fundus photos——a prospective analysis of the RetCAD system

AIM:To assess the accuracy of an artificial intelligence(AI)based software(Ret CAD,Thirona,The Netherlands)to identify and grade age-related macular degeneration(AMD)and diabetic retinopathy(DR)simultaneously based on fundus ***:This prospective study included 1245 eyes of 630 patients attending an ophthalmology day-care *** photos were acquired and parallel graded by the Ret CAD AI software and by an expert reference examiner for image quality,and staging of AMD and *** was provided by a second expert examiner in case of disagreement between the AI software and the reference *** analysis was performed on eye-level and on patient-level,by summarizing the individual image level-gradings into and eye-level or patient-level score,*** performance of the Ret CAD system was measured using receiver operating characteristics(ROC)analysis and sensitivity and specificity for both AMD and DR were ***:The Ret CAD achieved an area under the ROC(Az)of 0.926 with a sensitivity of 84.6%at a specificity of 84.0%for image *** image level,the Ret CAD software achieved Az values of 0.964 and 0.961 with sensitivity/specificity pairs of 98.2%/79.1%and 83.9%/93.3%for AMD and DR,*** patient level,the Ret CAD software achieved Az values of 0.960 and 0.948 with sensitivity/specificity pairs of 97.3%/73.3%and 80.0%/90.1%for AMD and DR,*** adjudication by the second expert examiner sensitivity/specificity increases on patient-level to 98.6%/78.3%and 100.0%/92.3%for AMD and DR,***:The Ret CAD offers very good sensitivity and specificity compared to manual grading by experts and is in line with that obtained by similar automated grading *** Ret CAD AI software enables simultaneous grading of both AMD and DR based on the same fundus *** sensitivity may be adjusted according to the desired acceptable sensitivity and *** simplicity cloud base i

Visualization literacy,the ability to interpret and comprehend visual designs,is recognized as an essential skill by the visualization *** identify and investigate barriers to comprehending parallel coordinates plots(PCPs),one of the advanced graphical representations for the display of multivariate and high-dimensional *** develop a parallel coordinates literacy test with diverse images generated using popular PCP software *** test improves PCP literacy and evaluates the user’s literacy *** introduce an interactive educational tool that assists the teaching and learning of parallel coordinates by offering a more active learning *** this pedagogical tool,we aim to advance novice users’parallel coordinates literacy *** on the hypothesis that an interactive tool that links traditional Cartesian Coordinates with PCPs interactively will enhance PCP literacy further than static slides,we compare the learning experience using traditional slides with our novel software tool and investigate the efficiency of the educational software with an online,crowdsourced ***-study results show that our pedagogical tool positively impacts a user’s PCP comprehension.

Physical separation processes are best understood in terms of the behaviour of individual ore ***,while different empirical particle-based separation modelling approaches have been developed,their predictive performance has never been tested under variable process ***,we investigated the predictive performance of a state-of-the-art particle-based separation model under variable feed composition for a laboratory-scale magnetic separation of a skarn *** scenarios were investigated:one in which the mass flow of the different processing streams could be measured and one in which it had to be estimated from *** both scenarios,the predictive models were sufficiently general to predict the process outcomes of new samples of variable ***,the scenario in which mass flow could be measured was4%more precise in predicting mass *** process behaviour of minerals present at concentrations above 0.1%by weight could be accurately *** findings indicate the potential use of this method to minimize the costs of metallurgical testwork while providing in-depth understanding of the recovery behaviour of individual ore ***,the method may be used to establish powerful tools to forecast mineral recoveries for partly new ore types at a running mining operation.

Although perovskite light-emitting diodes(PeLEDs)have seen unprecedented development in device efciency over the past decade,they sufer signifcantly from poor operational *** is especially true for blue PeLEDs,whose operational lifetime remains orders of magnitude behind their green and red ***,we systematically investigate this efciency-stability discrepancy in a series of green-to blue-emitting PeLEDs based on mixed Br/*** fnd that chloride incorporation,while having only a limited impact on efciency,detrimentally afects device stability even in small *** lifetime drops exponentially with increasing Cl-content,accompanied by an increased rate of change in electrical properties during *** ascribe this phenomenon to an increased mobility of halogen ions in the mixed-halide lattice due to an increased chemically and structurally disordered landscape with reduced migration *** results indicate that the stability enhancement for PeLEDs might require diferent strategies from those used for improving efciency.

Biopsy is a method commonly used for early cancer ***,bleeding complications of widely available biopsy are risky for *** biopsy will result in a more accurate cancer diagnosis and a decrease in the risk of *** this article,we propose a novel biopsy needle that can reduce bleeding during biopsy procedures and achieve stable *** proposed biopsy needle features a compact structure and can be operated easily by left and right hands.A predictive model for puncture force and tip deflection based on coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian(CEL)method is *** results show that the biopsy needle can smoothly deliver the gelatin sponge hemostatic plug into the *** the hemostatic plug bends,the overall delivery process is stable,and the hemostatic plug retains in the tissue without being affected by the withdrawal of the *** experiments indicate that the specimens are well obtained and evenly distributed in the groove of the outer needle without *** proposed design of biopsy needle possesses strong ability of hemostasis,tissue cutting,and tissue *** CEL model accurately predicts the peak of puncture force and produces close estimation of the insertion force at the postpuncture stage and tip position.

A reliability-based stochastic system optimum congestion pricing(SSOCP) model with endogenous market penetration and compliance rate in an advanced traveler information systems(ATIS) environment was proposed. All travelers were divided into two classes. The first guided travelers were referred to as the equipped travelers who follow ATIS advice, while the second unguided travelers were referred to as the unequipped travelers and the equipped travelers who do not follow the ATIS advice(also referred to as non-complied travelers). Travelers were assumed to take travel time, congestion pricing, and travel time reliability into account when making travel route choice decisions. In order to arrive at on time, travelers needed to allow for a safety margin to their *** market penetration of ATIS was determined by a continuous increasing function of the information benefit, and the ATIS compliance rate of equipped travelers was given as the probability of the actually experienced travel costs of guided travelers less than or equal to those of unguided travelers. The analysis results could enhance our understanding of the effect of travel demand level and travel time reliability confidence level on the ATIS market penetration and compliance rate; and the effect of travel time perception variation of guided and unguided travelers on the mean travel cost savings(MTCS) of the equipped travelers, the ATIS market penetration, compliance rate, and the total network effective travel time(TNETT).
