Acute Kidney Injury in the Nephrology Department of the Brazzaville University Hospital: Epidemiological, Clinical and Evolutionary Aspects

Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined as a sudden and reversible deterioration in renal function. It is a life-threatening condition in hospitalized patients. Our objectives were to determine the prevalence of AKI in a nephrology department, list the causes, describe the evolutionary profile and identify the factors associated with death. Patients and Methods: We reviewed the records of patients hospitalised between 1 January 2016 and 31 October 2020 in the nephrology department of Brazzaville University Hospital. We included patients aged at least 18 years whose discharge diagnosis included the item AKI. Study variables were socio-demographic data, clinical and paraclinical signs, stage and type of AKI, etiology and evolutionary profile. Results: Of the 1823 patients hospitalised, 244 (13.38%) were hospitalised for AKI. Of these, 60.2% were boys and 39.8% girls, with an average age of 47 19 years. The average consultation time was 10 6.5 days. AKI was stage 3 in 69.57% of cases. It was functional, organic and obstructive in the order of 55.28%, 36.02% and 8.69%. Dialysis was indicated in 62 patients (38.51%) and performed in 24 patients (14.9%). In-hospital mortality was 27.95%, with an average hospital stay of 9.6 5.8 days. Metabolic acidosis and anemia were the main causes of death in 14.28% and 4.35% of patients respectively. Factors associated with death were male sex, socioeconomic level, coma, indication for dialysis and absence of dialysis, with a p Conclusion: AKI is more common in young adult males. Mortality is relatively low. Improving prognosis requires early management and access to dialysis.

Impact of Salinity on Respiration and Organic Matter Dynamics in Soils is More Closely Related to Osmotic Potential than to Electrical Conductivity

Osmotic potential （OP） of soil solution may be a more appropriate parameter than electrical conductivity （EC） to evaluate the effect of salts on plant growth and soil biomass. However, this has not been examined in detail with respect to microbial activity and dissolved organic matter in soils with different texture. This study evaluated the effect of salinity and sodicity on respiration and dissolved organic matter dynamics in salt-affected soils with different texture. Four non-saline and non-sodic soils differing in texture （S-4, S-13, S-24 and S-40 with 4%, 13%, 24~ and 40~~ clay, respectively） were leached using combinations of 1 mol L-1 NaC1 and 1 mol L-1 CaC12 stock solutions, resulting in EC （1：5 soil：water ratio） between 0.4 and 5.0 dS m-1 with two levels of sodicity （sodium absorption ratio （SAR）〈 3 （non-sodic） and 20 （sodic）, 1：5 soil：water ratio）. Adjusting the water content to levels optimal for microbial activity~ which differed among the soils, resulted in four ranges of OP in all the soils： from -0.06 to -0.24 （controls, without salt added）, -0.55 to -0.92, -1.25 to -1.62 and -2.77 to -3.00 Mpa. Finely ground mature wheat straw （20 g kg-1） was added to stimulate microbial activity. At a given EC, cumulative soil respiration was lower in the lighter-textured soils （S-4 and S-13） than in the heavier-textured soils （S-24 and S-40）. Cumulative soil respiration decreased with decreasing OP to a similar extent in all the soils, with a greater decrease on Day 40 than on Day 10. Cumulative soil respiration was greater at SAR ---- 20 than at SAR 〈 3 only at the OP levels between -0.62 and -1.62 MPa on Day 40. In all the soils and at both sampling times, concentrations of dissolved organic C and N were higher at the lowest OP levels （from -2.74 to -3.0 MPa） than in the controls （from -0.06 to -0.24 MPa）. Thus, OP is a better parameter than EC to evaluate the effect of salinity on dissolved organic matter and microbial activity in different textured soils.

This paper is devoted to the study of a nonlinear evolution eddy current model of the type δtB（H）＋ △↓× （ △↓ × H） =0 subject to homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions H × v = 0 and a given initial datum. Here, the magnetic properties of a soft ferromagnet are linked by a nonlinear material law described by B（H）. We apply the backward Euler method for the time discretization and we derive the error estimates in suitable function spaces. The results depend on the nonlinearity of B（H）.

Direct messenger ribonucleic acid(mRNA)delivery to target cells or tissues has revolutionized the field of ***,the applicability of regenerative medicine is limited by the technical difficulties of various mRNA-loaded ***,we report a new conductive hybrid film that could guide osteogenic differentiation of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells(hADMSCs)via electrically controlled mRNA *** find optimal electrical conductivity and mRNAloading capacity,the polypyrrole-graphene oxide(PPy-GO)hybrid film was electropolymerized on indium tin oxide *** found that the fluorescein sodium salt,a molecule partially mimicking the physical and chemical properties of mRNAs,can be effectively absorbed and released by electrical stimulation(ES).The hADMSCs cultivated on the PPy-GO hybrid film loaded with pre-osteogenic mRNAs showed the highest osteogenic differentiation under electrical *** platform can load various types of RNAs thus highly promising as a new nucleic acid delivery tool for the development of stem cell-based therapeutics.

Relationship of Naturally Occurring Antisperm Antibodies in Blood Serum and Seminal Plasma of Cattle Bulls with Sperm Function and Fertility Tests

The study was planned with an objective to assess the level of antisperm antibodies (ASA) in the blood serum and seminal plasma of breeding cow bulls and their relationship with sperm function and fertility tests. ASA was analyzed in blood serum and seminal plasma by SpermMar test, Immuno peroxidase assay (IPA) and Enzyme linked immunoabsorbant assay (ELISA). In SpermMar test, about 54% bulls were with >40% IgG in blood serum against sperm surface antigens, whereas none of the bulls were with >10% IgG in seminal plasma. More than 20% and >10% IgA against sperm surface antigens were detected in the blood serum and seminal plasma of 65.8% and 37% bulls, respectively. Out of 26 bulls, seminal plasma of 21 bulls reacted with spermatozoa both in IPA and IgA latex particles and that of only 12 bulls reacted with IgG. In IPA, about 50% of the bulls had >40% ASA against head surface antigens, whereas, there were 23% bulls with >10% ASA in seminal plasma. Also ELISA indicated a higher antibody titre in blood serum (3200 - 6400) and seminal plasma (40 - 80) of 50% and 42% bulls, respectively. There were 11 bulls with low values of HOST/in vitro acrosome reaction/cervical mucus penetration assay and higher level of either serum or seminal plasma ASA. Our study revealed that a significant level of ASA in serum or seminal plasma may have effect on the fertility of bulls by affecting the sperm function.

目的 :探讨FDG -PET在监测胃肠道淋巴瘤治疗疗效中的应用。方法 :对 19例不同类型胃肠道淋巴瘤患者进行回顾性分析 (2例霍奇金氏淋巴瘤 ,15例非霍奇金氏淋巴瘤 ,2例mantle细胞淋巴瘤 )。 3例为胃部淋巴瘤 ,14例为小肠淋巴瘤 ,2例为结肠淋巴瘤。所有患者进行治疗前及治疗后PET显像。显像结果与临床结果相比较。结果 :19例患者的治疗前扫描中 ,17例 (89% )为FDG摄取明显增强 ,2例显示病灶部位FDG摄取轻度增强。所有患者治疗后随访PET扫描 ,13例PET图像上未见明显异常FDG摄取 ,6例原病灶部位仍存在异常FDG摄取。FDGPET扫描阴性的患者中 ,仅有 1例 1年后复发 ,占7.7% ,而所有 6例 (10 0 % )治疗后PET随访仍阳性的患者 ,在 1年的随访当中复发。结论 :FDG -PET在监测胃肠道淋巴瘤治疗反应方面有潜在的应用价值。
