Background: Producing rainfed cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.) with high fiber quality has been challenging in the Texas High Plains because of extended periods of insufficient rainfall during sensitive boll developmental *** variation created by Ethyl MethaneSulfonate(EMS) mutagen has successfully improved fiber quality of cotton. However, little is known about the effect of water deficit environments on fiber quality. Three EMS treated populations were advanced from the first to the fourth generation(M1 to M4) as bulk harvested populations. In2014, single-plant divergent selection was applied based on perceived morphological and agronomic differences seen during and at the end of the ***: Analyses from these selections in 2014-2016 showed significant(Pdiverse ***: Some of these selections are being considered for germplasm release and could be useful for improving the fiber quality of cotton under water limited conditions, thereby helping to ensure the long-term survival of the cotton industry on the Texas High Plains.

Carbon nanotube(CNT)sponge exhibits unique porous and hierarchical structure that are beneficial to the design of ultralight and tough *** this study,CNT sponges(undoped and boron doped)reinforced polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)composites were *** properties of the composite,including compressive modulus,rate-dependent modulus,stress relaxation behaviors,dynamic viscoelastic properties,and their dependency on temperature,were systematically investigated.A micromechanical model,Mori-Tanaka model,was validated to describe the mechanical behaviors of CNT sponge reinforced *** coupling with boron-doped CNT sponge,PDMS composites showed remarkable improvement of mechanical properties,including compressive modulus(70%),viscous modulus(243%)and damping capacity(50%).Such reinforcement effects can be controlled by the morphology of CNT sponges,as the boron-doped and undoped nanocomposites showed distinct viscoelastic *** results proved that CNT sponge reinforcement is a promising strategy to develop engineering composites with both outstanding mechanical stiffness and controllable viscoelastic performances.

Correlation lengths of ultra-low-frequency(ULF)waves around Mars were computed for the first time,using data from MEX(electron density from 2004 to 2015)and MAVEN(electron density and magnetic field from 2014 to 2016).Analysis of the MEX data found that,for the frequency range 8 to 50 mHz,correlation length in electron density varied between 13 and 17 seconds(temporal scale)and between 5.5×10^3 km and 6.8×10^3 km(spatial scale).For the MAVEN time interval,correlation length was found to vary between 11 and 16 seconds(temporal scale)and 2×10^3–4.5×10^3 km in spatial *** the magnetic field data,correlation lengths are observed to be between 8–15 seconds(temporal scale)and between 1×10^3 and 5×10^3 km(spatial scale)over the same frequency *** observe that the cross sections of the plasma regions at the dayside of Mars are smaller than these correlation lengths in these regions in both analyses,where the correlation length derived from the MEX electron density data was between 5 and 25 times the size of the magnetosheath and the magnetic pile-up region(MPR),*** MAVEN these ratios are about 4(magnetosheath)and 11(MPR)in electron density and between 1.5 and 5.5 for magnetic field data,*** results indicate that waves at the magnetosheath/MPR can be related to oscillations in the upper *** a local region,wave trains may cause resonance effects at the planetary ionopause,which consequently contributes to the enhanced ion escape from the atmosphere.

Instrumented towers are being constructed to characterize vertical wind profiles in order to improve the understanding and characterization of a desired environment up to 100 m. The site being measured is at a height of 2500 m over sea level, in one side of Sierra Madre Oriental, which crosses Mexico from North to South. As the site has no energy, it was powered by a photovoltaic system. Power consumption of two sets of sensors fixed at the tower was evaluated. The first sensor set consisted of a pulsed anemometer and a RH sensor having a 0 - 10 V output;these sensors used cables for transmitting the output signals. Three cup anemometers fixed at 25, 35 and 45 m high measured wind speed. Wireless sensors in the second set, requires of a power consumption and battery life study. Solar cells energized the sensors, becoming the installation and operation easier. The datalogger that acquired the RH and T measurements encountered an 11% voltage loss throughout the cable;cup anemometer measurements did not show variations due to its pulsed signals. Wireless sensors drew less energy from the PV system, resulting in battery overcharge. A dump regulator turned-on a 200 W lamp during the night when the battery voltage reached 14 V;the lamp was turned-off when the battery voltage felt beneath 11.5 V. Considering the high wind available, wireless sensors batteries were charged by small wind turbines combined with 5 W solar panels.

AIM: To demographically and clinically characterize inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) from the local registry and update data previously published by our ***: A descriptive study of a cohort based on a registry of patients aged 15 years or older who were diagnosed with IBD and attended the IBD program at Clínica Las Condes in Santiago, Chile. The registry was created in April 2012 and includes patients registered up to October 2015. The information was anonymously downloaded in a monthly report, and the information on patients with more than one visit was updated. The registry includes demographic, clinical and disease characteristics, including the Montreal Classification, medical treatment, surgeries and hospitalizations for crisis. Data regarding infection with Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) were incorporated in the registry in 2014. Data for patients who received consultations as second opinions and continued treatment at this institution were also ***: The study included 716 patients with IBD: 508 patients (71%) were diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC), 196 patients (27%) were diagnosed with Crohn’s disease (CD) and 12 patients (2%) were diagnosed with unclassifiable IBD. The UC/CD ratio was 2.6/1. The median age was 36 years (range 16-88), and 58% of the patients were female, with a median age at diagnosis of 29 years (range 5-76). In the past 15 years, a sustained increase in the number of patients diagnosed with IBD was observed, where 87% of the patients were diagnosed between the years 2001 and 2015. In the cohort examined in the present study, extensive colitis (50%) and colonic involvement (44%) predominated in the patients with UC and CD, respectively. In CD patients, non-stricturing/non-penetrating behavior was more frequent (80%), and perianal disease was observed in 28% of the patients. Cave-adapted animals provide a unique opportunity to study the evolutionary mechanisms underlying phenotypic,metabolic,behavioral,and genetic evolution in response to cave *** Mexican tetra(Astyanax mexicanus)is considered a unique model system as it shows both surface and cave-dwelling *** date,at least 33 different cave populations have been identified,with phylogenetic studies suggesting an origin from at least two independent surface lineages,thereby providing a unique opportunity to study parallel *** the present study,we carried out the most exhaustive phylogeographic study of *** to date,including cave and surface localities,using two mitochondrial markers(cytochrome b(cyt b)and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(COI))and nuclear rhodopsin visual pigment(rho).Additionally,we inferred the molecular evolution of rho within the two contrasting environments(cave and surface)and across three geographic regions(Sierra de El Abra,Sierra de Guatemala,and Micos).In total,267 individuals were sequenced for the two mitochondrial fragments and 268 individuals were sequenced for the rho visual pigment from 22 cave and 46 surface *** results based on the mitochondrial data supported the two-lineage hypothesis,except for the Pachón and Chica caves,whose introgression has been largely *** Sierra de El Abra region depicted the largest genetic diversity,followed by the Sierra de Guatemala *** the phylogeographic patterns of rho,we recovered exclusive haplogroups for the Sierra de El Abra(Haplogroup I)and Sierra de Guatemala regions(Haplogroup IV).Moreover,a 544 bp deletion in the rho gene was observed in the Escondido cave population from Sierra de Guatemala,reducing the protein from seven to three intramembrane *** change may produce a loss-of-function(LOF)but requires further *** nonsynonymous(dN)and synonymous(dS)substitution rates(omega valuesω),our results revealed
