Mass balance equations can be used to quantify the level of fossil carbon dioxide (CO2)ff at a given site by using samples of tree leaves or tree rings. These sites are often densely populated and highly industrialized areas. In this case, in addition to the natural carbon dioxide level of the site, there are several other components that are added to it. The approaches we propose in this paper are based on the isotopic fractionation of carbon and the laws of matter conservation. Mathematical equations are derived from this and we propose approaches to establish them. Our method has allowed us to come to the conclusion of the relationship that is already found in literature. But we term this relationship in another way by introducing the fraction of carbon modern F and the proportion of CO2 derived from fossil fuels, which will be noted (S)ff for the following. As an indicator of the Suess Effect, we have calculated these values in our different sites. Wooded areas sites which are located in urban areas have higher value of proportion of fossil fuel (S)ff .

The authors describe the clinical presentation of a 59-year old woman in the emergency room, with agitation, confusion and hypothermia. She was previously diagnosed with hypothalamic-pituitary insufficiency with complete dysfunction of the pituitary gland, poikilothermia and central diabetes insipidus, treated with hormone supplements. In the emergency room, she showed a dysregulation in temperature, altered mental status and hyponatremia. The differential diagnosis was hypothermia based on infection with the history of poikilothermia, with dysregulation of her diabetes insipidus. Poikilothermia is an extremely rare condition in humans in which the body temperature variates with the surrounding temperature. Dysregulation may develop due to different causes.

Understanding the location of the subsurface heat sources is crucial for efficient geothermal resource exploration and exploitation. This study aimed to investigate the faults and the depth to heat sources for a geothermal system in Magadi, southern Rift Valley, through the integration of gravity mapping, 3D Euler deconvolution, and spectral analysis. Gravity mapping is a powerful geophysical method widely used to infer subsurface density variations, which are indicative of geological structures and volcanic intrusions that can be potential heat sources. The Volcano-Tectonic and Fluvial-Deltaic Sedimentation process of the Kenyan rift which encompasses the Magadi basin are responsible for geomorphic and geologic processes in the area. Alkali lava sheets of Magadi plateau trachytes covered with lacustrine sediments characterize 80% of the area. Deeper is the Tanzanian craton basement, overlain by Pliocene to Miocene volcanic and sedimentary rocks. A gravity survey with a data density of 2.375 stations/km2 produced high-resolution anomaly and total horizontal derivative maps showing gravity highs between −180 mGals to −174 mGals along the eastern zone of the study area. A buried major fault trending N-S was delineated in the mid-upper region of the area by Euler solutions at an average depth of 350 meters. Deeper features associated with possible volcanic dykes and sills gave Euler depth ranges of 0.7 km to 2.2 km. Radial average spectral analysis showed depth to the top of shallow and deep features at 2.4694 km and 5.827 km respectively. The correlation between gravity anomalies, geological structures, and present hot springs supports the hypothesis that volcanic processes have played a significant role in the development of the geothermal system in the study area.

Biomineralization has become a research focus in wastewater treatment due to its much lower costs compared to traditional ***,the low sodium chloride(NaCl)-tolerance of bacteria limits applications to only water with low NaCl ***,calcium ions in hypersaline wastewater(10%NaCl)were precipitated by free and immobilized Halovibrio mesolongii HMY2 bacteria and the differences between them were *** results show that calcium ions can be transformed into several types of calcium carbonate with a range of morphologies,abundant organic functional groups(C-H,C-O-C,C=O,etc),protein secondary structures(β-sheet,α-helix,3_(10)helix,andβ-turn),P=O and S-H indicated by P2p and S2p,and more negativeδ^(13)C_(PDB)(‰)values(-16.8‰to-18.4‰).The optimal conditions for the immobilized bacteria were determined by doing experiments with six factors and five levels and using response surface *** the action of two groups of immobilized bacteria prepared under the optimal conditions,by the 10^(th)day,Ca^(2+)ion precipitation ratios had increased to 79%-89%and 80%-88%with changes in magnesium ion *** ions can significantly inhibit the calcium ion precipitation,and this inhibitory effect can be decreased under the action of immobilized *** induced by immobilized bacteria always aggregated together,had higher contents of Mg,P,and S,lower stable carbon isotope values and less well-developed protein secondary *** study demonstrates an economic and eco-friendly method for recycling calcium ions in hypersaline wastewater,providing an easy step in the process of desalination.

The ever-increasing demand for oil and gas has driven its exploration in rather extreme conditions. In Lamu offshore, which is hitherto underexplored, most of the wells already drilled turned out dry save for a few wells with hydrocarbon shows despite the promising reservoir properties and related geological structures. This, therefore, necessitated a source rock evaluation study in the area to ascertain the presence and potential of the source rock by integrating the geochemical data analysis and petroleum system modeling. The shallow Lamu offshore source rock quantity, quality, and maturity have been estimated through the determination of the total organic carbon (TOC) average values, Kerogen typing, and Rock-Eval pyrolysis measurements respectively. Geochemical data for Kubwa-1, Mbawa-1, Pomboo-1, and Simba-1 were evaluated for determining the source rock potential for hydrocarbon generation. Petroleum system modeling was applied in evaluating geological conditions necessary for a successful charge within a software that integrated geochemical and petrophysical characterization of the sedimentary formations in conjunction with boundary conditions that include basal heat flow, sediment-water interface temperature, and Paleo-water depth. The average TOC of 0.89 wt % in the study area suggests a fair organic richness which seems higher in the late cretaceous (0.98 wt %) than in the Paleocene (0.81 wt %). Vitrinite reflectance and Tmax values in the study area indicate the possible presence of both mature and immature source rocks. Type III Kerogen was the most dominant Kerogen type, and gas shows are the most frequent hydrocarbon encountered in the Lamu Basin with a few cases registering type II/III and type II. The charge properties (i.e. Temperature, transformation ratio, and Vitrinite reflectance) over geologic time at each of the wells have been estimated and their spatial variation mapped as seen from the burial history and depth curves overlaid with

Programmed cell death （PCD） is an important and universal process regulating precise death of unwanted cells in eukaryotes. In plants, the existence of PCD has been firmly established for about a decade, and many components shown to be involved in apoptosis/PCD in mammalian systems are found in plant cells undergoing PCD. Here, we review work from our lab demonstrating the involvement of PCD in the self-incompatibility response in Papaver rhoeas pollen. This utilization of PCD as a consequence of a specific pollen-pistil interaction provides a very neat way to destroy unwanted ＇self＇, but not ＇non-self＇ pollen. We discuss recent data providing evidence for SI-induced activation of several caspase-like activities and suggest that an acidification of the cytosol may be a key turning point in the activation of caspase-like proteases executing PCD. We also review data showing the involvement of the actin and microtubule cytoskeletons as well as that of a MAPK in signalling to caspase-mediated PCD. Potential links between these various components in signalling to PCD are discussed. Together, this begins to build a picture of PCD in a single cell system, triggered by a receptor-ligand interaction.

本论文分析和评述矿物加工技术特别是生物浸出和堆浸机技术进展。研究浸出过程中的影响因素,以便更好研究它们之间的相互作用,强化浸出过程,开发最佳的浸出工艺。检测与细菌生长繁殖有关的营养物质、温度、pH、种群动态分析、物理和化学变化。探索不同细菌间的共生关系以及混合菌对反应动力学的影响。通过基因操作和细菌驯化,提高浸矿微生物对浸出液中对微生物生长繁殖有害的离子浓度的耐受性,经过近两年的实验室驯化,细菌对Mg的耐受性从10g/L提高到25g/L。这项工作研究了金川高氧化镁(MGO30-35%,主要存在于橄榄石、绿泥石和蛇纹石等脉石中)低品位硫化镍矿,浸矿细菌为中温Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans和Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans混合菌。目的在于对金川低品位硫化镍矿生物浸出回收有价金属的可行性研究。经过60天的预浸和252天的细菌浸出,镍的浸出率为91%,钴的浸出率为81%。试验很好,在此基础上进行堆浸试验。 500吨的堆浸系统采用混合中温菌:Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans(FJ164046;DQ321745),Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans(EF059760)和Leptospirillum ferrooxidans(DSM2391)。通过三个阶段(从25L到500L,最后是10m)逐步扩大培养中获得细菌接种。浸出过程中所需硫酸来自工业硫酸和处理冶炼废气所得的酸性废水(pH=0.0-0.3)。经过80天的预浸和270天的生物浸出,镍的浸出率为84.6%,钴的浸出率为75.0%。
