The processing of Morinda citrifolia fruit normally results in a large number of waste leaves that hold many bioactive compounds with nutritional and pharmacological *** work aimed to evaluate the effects of a multi-stage block freeze concentration(BFC)via gravitational method on the physicochemical properties of the leaf extract(noni tea).The results in solid retention showed fractions almost 7 times most concentrated than the initial *** addition,when compared to the initial content,the BFC process showed an efficiency higher than 90%in the retention of phenolic *** in liquid chromatography allowed the detection and quantification of phenolic compounds,in which the total amount increased by more than 1000%in relation to the initial content after each BFC ***,it was also possible to observe a significant increase in the antioxidant activity of the concentrated product after the simulated in vitro digestion *** was concluded that using a non-thermal,sustainable,low-cost processing,promoted the obtaining of concentrated fractions with high biological and nutritional values with promising properties for application in the development of functional foods from agroindustrial wastes.

During architectural conception phase,building maintenance problematic is mostly a result of the unintentional use of preconceived architectonical solutions rather than a consequence of a specific influence of maintenance *** the architect in the act of design understands the importance of these solutions in the service life span of a *** aware of this,is it possible for the architect to be supplied with a decision support system that allows him to consider the implications of building maintenance since the early design phases? BACKGROUND Acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC) is a complication of ulcerative colitisassociated with high levels of circulating tumor necrosis factor alpha, due to theintense inflammation and faster stool clearance of anti-tumor necrosis factordrugs. Dose-intensified infliximab treatment can be beneficial and is associatedwith lower rates of colectomy. The aim of the study was to present a case of apatient with ASUC and megacolon, treated with hydrocortisone and acceleratedscheme of infliximab that was monitored by drug trough *** SUMMARYA 22-year-old female patient diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, presented withdiarrhea, rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, vomiting, and distended *** investigation, a positive toxin for Clostridium difficile and colonic dilatationof 7 cm consistent with megacolon were observed. She was treated with oralvancomycin for pseudomembranous colitis and intravenous hydrocortisone forsevere colitis, which led to the resolution of megacolon. Due to the persistentsevere colitis symptoms, infliximab 5 mg/kg was prescribed, monitored by drugtrough level (8.8 μg/mL) and fecal calprotectin of 921 μg/g (< 30 μg/g). Based onthe low infliximab trough level after one week from the first infliximab dose, thepatient received a second infusion at week 1, consistent with the acceleratedregimen (infusions at weeks 0, 1, 2 and 6). We achieved a positive clinical andendoscopic response after 6 mo of therapy, without the need for a *** accelerated infusions can be beneficial in ASUC unresponsive to thetreatment with intravenous corticosteroids. Longitudinal studies are necessary todefine the best therapeutic drug monitoring and treatment regimen for thesepatients.

Objective:This purpose of this report was to examine the perceptions of medical students about the strengths,limitations,and recommendations for improvement of the first known student-run HIV/AIDS educational campaigns in the Dominican Republic(DR),as they relate to the added value applied to their educational ***:A retrospective review was conducted on evaluation reports completed by five medical students who coordinated the implementation of three annual HIV/AIDS educational campaigns in five DR communities,between 2012 and *** analysis was used to identify emerging themes related to perceived strengths,limitations,and recommendations for improvement and develop an acronym related to program strengths as value added to medical ***:Students highlighted that program strengths were the use of social media technology to facilitate communication and culture-based creativity to capture the attention of target audiences;and limitations were inadequate financial support and HIV-related cultural stigma,due to lack of disease knowledge and awareness or perceived contrasts between the federal system and faith-based *** for program improvement,such as comprehensive event preparation and knowing the target audience,were described as key to maximizing the delivery of health ***:Our results highlighted that medical students gained expertise in the effective use of social media technology,culture-based creativity,and team synergy to disseminate HIV/AIDS health information across five DR *** participated in these extracurricular community health campaigns,strengthening skills in communication,health advocacy,and leadership for their medical *** served as human resources for health and can pave the way as future clinicians and indispensable health educators in local and national health collaborations.

Contribution of the Incorporation of Poultry Litter and Limestone for the Fertility of Sandy Soil in the Brazilian Amazon

Sandy soils have limitations for growing plants. In general, they have low fertility, high toxic aluminum content and low organic matter. The organic matter is responsible for most of the cation exchange capacity of these soils. Added to this, the low clay content and the structure of these soils with large volumes of macropores, determine their low water retention. An alternative is the incorporation of organic waste combined with the practice of liming. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the contribution of the incorporation of poultry litter and limestone in the fertility of sandy soils in the Brazilian Amazon. The experiment was conducted in Colorado do Oeste, RO, on a Quartzipsamment in a completely randomized block design in a 4 × 4 × 2 factorial scheme, corresponding to four doses of poultry litter (0, 5, 10 and 15 mg·ha-1), its incorporation for four times (0, 75, 110 and 145 days) in the presence and absence of 2 mg·ha-1 of limestone, with six replications. The incorporation of 15 mg·ha-1 of poultry litter combined with 2 mg·ha-1 of limestone for 75 days after the merger raises several components of Quartzipsamment fertility, mainly being the availability of phosphorus.

Intra-abdominal infections can be classified into uncomplicated or complicated(peritonitis). Peritonitis is divided into primary, secondary, and tertiary. Tertiaryperitonitis is the less common but the most severe among peritonitisstratifications, being defined as a recurrent intra-abdominal infection that occurs48 h after a well-succeeded control of a secondary peritonitis. This disease has acomplex pathogenesis that is closely related to the capacity of the peritonealcavity to activate immunological processes. Patients who progress to persistentperitonitis are at an increased risk of developing several infectious complicationssuch as sepsis and multiple organ failure syndrome. Moreover, tertiary peritonitisremains an important cause of hospital death mainly among patients withassociated risk factors. The microbiological profile of organisms causing tertiaryperitonitis is often different from that observed in other types of peritonitis. Inaddition, there is a high prevalence of multidrug-resistant pathogens causing thiscondition, and an appropriate and successful clinical management depends on anearly diagnosis, which can be made easier with the use of clinical scorespresenting a good prediction value during the intensive care unit ***, immediate therapy should be performed to control theinfectious focus and to prevent new recurrences. In this sense, the treatment isbased on initial antimicrobial therapy and well-performed peritoneal drainage.

Traditionally, search engines are designed to support a single user working alone. However, the construction of knowledge is enriched when one adds collaboration to search tasks. We identified opportunities for remote collaboration in a Social Web search model that integrates parents and children guided by 5W + 1H (who, what, where, when, why, how) dimensions. Our social search model aims at improving the search process for children. We found 7 opportunities for remote collaboration on the search process, based on implicit-explicit interactions.

Postharvest Losses in the Wheat Logistics Chain： A Brazilian Case Study

This paper highlighted the losses occurring along the wheat supply chain in Rio Grande do Sul （RS）, Brazil, which accounts for almost half of the domestic wheat production. Based on a field research, a questionnaire was applied to representative agents in the market. Then the wheat supply chain in the state of RS was characterized and loss rates in each stage of that chain were quantified. Typically, losses during transportation in the domestic market account for about 11.8% of the total amount of wheat grain that leaves the farms. Losses during harvest and storage in cooperatives, which account for 93.2% of total losses, stand out in this context. Transportation operations account for 6.8% of total losses in the analyzed flow. Based on the results obtained in this study, strategies are suggested to reduce food losses in different links of the logistics chain, such as to evidence and quantify the wheat losses, to manage losses and set reduction targets and to give attention to transportation service levels.

Objective:To identify whether Canova medication changes TNF-α and IL-10 serum levels in mice infected with Trypanosoma cruzi Y ***:Animals were divided into five groups:non-treated infected animals(I); benznidazole-treated infected animals(Bz; 100 mg/kg body weight,single daily dose by gavage); Canova medication(CM) treated infected animals(CM;0.2 mL/animal,single daily dose by gavage); benznidazole- and Canova medication–treated infected animals with the above-mentioned dose(Bz+CM);and non-infected animals(C).TNF-α and IL-10 levels were determined in serum aliquots after 4,7,10,13,and 29 days of *** ELISA technique was employed with R&D System *** ***:A high increase in TNF-α and IL-10 levels occurred in the infected and CM-treated groups within the treatment employed on the 10 th day after infection,coupled with a IL-10 decrease on the 13 th day after infection when compared with the other experimental ***:CM may change the balance between plasma cytokine levels(TNF-α and IL-10) in mice infected with Y strain ***,with important consequences leading towards a more severe infection.
