From mantle to critical zone:A review of large and giant sized deposits of the rare earth elements

The rare earth elements are unusual when defining giant-sized ore deposits,as resources are often quoted as total rare earth oxide,but the importance of a deposit may be related to the grade for individual,or a limited group of the *** the total REE resource,only one currently known deposit（Bayan Obo） would class as giant（〉1.7×10^7 tonnes contained metal）,but a range of others classify as large（〉1.7×10^6 tonnes）.With the exception of unclassified resource estimates from the Olympic dam 10 CG deposit,all of these deposits are related to alkaline igneous activity- either carbonatites or agpaitic nepheline *** total resource in these deposits must relate to the scale of the primary igneous source,but the grade is a complex function of igneous source,magmatic crystallisation,hydrothermal modification and supergene enrichment during *** data suggest that the sources conducive to the formation of large REE deposits are developed in subcontinental lithospheric mantle,enriched in trace elements either by plume activity,or by previous *** reactivation of such enriched mantle domains in relatively restricted geographical areas may have played a role in the formation of some of the largest deposits（*** Obo）.Hydrothermal activity involving fluids from magmatic to meteoric sources may result in the redistribution of the REE and increases in grade,depending on primary mineralogy and the availability of *** and supergene enrichment of carbonatite has played a role in the formation of the highest grade deposits at Mount Weld（Australia） and Tomtor（Russia）.For the individual REE with the current highest economic value（Nd and the HREE）,the boundaries for the large and giant size classes are two orders of magnitude lower,and deposits enriched in these metals（agpaitic systems,ion absorption deposits） may have significant economic impact in the near future.

Kaempferol improves glucose uptake in skeletal muscle via an AMPK-dependent mechanism

Insulin resistance is a hallmark of type-2 diabetes(T2d)*** skeletal muscle(SkM)is the major tissue for insulin-mediated glucose disposal,insulin resistance in SkM is considered a major risk factor for developing ***,the identifi cation of compounds that enhance the ability of SkM to take up glucose is a promising strategy for preventing *** previous work showed that kaempferol,a fl avonol present in many foods,improves insulin sensitivity in obese mice,however,the mechanism underlying this beneficial action remains ***,we show that kaempferol directly stimulates glucose uptake and prevents lipotoxicity-impaired glucose uptake in primary human *** stimulates Akt phosphorylation in a time-dependent manner in human SkM *** effect of kaempferol on glucose uptake was blunted by inhibition of glucose transporter 4,phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K),or *** addition,kaempferol induced AMPK phosphorylation,and inhibition of AMPK prevented kaempferol-stimulated Akt *** vivo,kaempferol administration induced rapid glucose disposal accompanied with increased Akt and AMPK phosphorylation in SkM tissue of the *** together,these fi ndings suggest that kaempferol stimulates glucose uptake in SkM via an AMPK/Akt dependent mechanism,and it may be a viable therapeutic agent for insulin resistance.

BACKGROUNd Thymic epithelial carcinomas are rare and have a poor *** of thymic epithelial carcinoma is multimodal and includes surgery,post-operative radiation therapy,adjuvant and neoadjuvant chemotherapy,or exclusive chemotherapy based on disease ***,there is currently no standard treatment regimen for metastatic and recurrent thymic *** SUMMARY A 45-year-old Caucasian male,with no past medical history,presented with hepatalgia and a cervical mass.A computed tomography(CT)scan showed multiple suspect lesions in the lungs,liver,and anterior mediastinum associated with mediastinal and cervical ***-guided percutaneous biopsies of the liver lesions and anterior mediastinal mass were performed,confirming the histopathology of thymic epithelial *** consisted of several chemotherapy regimens and radiation therapy,administered between April 2016 and december *** patient achieved complete metabolic *** positron emission tomography/CT performed in June 2019 showed disease relapse,with reappearance of a large hypermetabolic hepatic mass and involvement of mediastinal and axillary lymph *** pembrolizumab(200 mg,every 3 wk)was administered after two prior systemic *** patient’s response to treatment was last documented on March 5,*** Pembrolizumab was successful in treatment of a patient with programmed deathligand 1-negative metastatic thymic carcinoma,pretreated with chemotherapy.

Connexins in neurons and glia: targets for intervention in disease and injury

Both neurons and glia throughout the central nervous system are organized into networks by gap junctions. Among glia, gap junctions facilitate metabolic homeostasis and intercellular communication. Among neurons, gap junctions form electrical synapses that function primarily for communication. However, in neurodegenerative states due to disease or injury gap junctions may be detrimental to survival. Electrical synapses may facilitate hyperactivity and bystander killing among neurons, while gap junction hemichannels in glia may facilitate inflammatory signaling and scar formation. Advances in understanding mechanisms of plasticity of electrical synapses and development of molecular therapeutics to target glial gap junctions and hemichannels offer new hope to pharmacologically limit neuronal degeneration and enhance recovery.

Photonic devices increasingly require three-dimensional control of refractive index,but existing fabrication methods such as femtosecond micromachining,multilayer lithography and bulk diffusion can only address a select scale range,are often limited in complexity or thickness and have low *** introduce a new fabrication method and polymeric material that can efficiently create mm^(3) optical devices with programmable,gradient index of refraction with arbitrary feature *** contrast of 0.1 is demonstrated,which is 100 times larger than femtosecond micromachining,and 20 times larger than commercial holographic *** is achieved by repetitive microfluidic layering of a self-developing photopolymer structured by projection *** process has the unusual property that total fabrication time for a fixed thickness decreases with the number of layers,enabling fabrication 10^(5) faster than femtosecond *** demonstrate the process by sequentially writing 100 layers to fabricate a mm thick waveguide array.

The World Society for Virology(WSV) was founded and incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the United States in 2017. WSV seeks to strengthen and support both virological research and virologists who conduct research of viruses that affect humans, other animals, plants, and other organisms. One of the objectives of WSV is to connect virologists worldwide and support collaboration. Fulfilling this objective, virologists from fourteen countries in North America,Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East met on 25–27 th August 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden at the Karolinska University Hospital for the first Committee Meeting of WSV. This meeting included compelling keynote and honorary speeches and a series of 18 scientific talks were given encompassing a diverse array of subjects within virology. Followed by the scientific session, a business session was held where multiple aspects and next steps of the society were discussed and charted out.

determinants of self-rated private health insurance coverage in Jamaica

The purpose of the current study was to model the health insurance coverage of Jamaicans;and to identify the determinants, strength and predictive power of the model in order to aid clinicians and other health practitioners in understanding those who have health insurance coverage. This study utilized secondary data taken from the dataset of the Jamaica Survey of Living Conditions which was collected between July and October 2002. It was a nationally representative stratified random sample survey of 25,018 respondents, with 50.7% females and 49.3% males. The data was collected by way of a self-administered questionnaire. The non-response rate for the survey was 29.7% with 20.5% not responding to particular questions, 9.0% not participating in the survey and another 0.2% being rejected due to data cleaning. The current research extracted 16,118 people 15 years and older from the survey sample of 25,018 respondents in order to model the determinants of private health insurance coverage in Jamaica. data were stored, retrieved and analyzed using SPSS for Windows 15.0. A p-value of less than 0.05 was used to establish statistical significance. descriptive analysis was used to provide baseline information on the sample, and cross-tabulations were used to examine some non-metric variables. Logistic regression was used to identify, determine and establish those factors that influence private health insurance coverage in Jamaica. This study found that approximately 12% of Jamaicans had private health insurance coverage, of which the least health insurance was owned by rural residents (7.5%). Using logistic regression, the findings revealed that twelve variables emerged as statistically significant determinants of health insurance coverage in this sample. These variables are social standing (two weal- thiest quintile: OR = 1.68, 95% CI = 1.23 – 2.30), income (OR = 1.00, 95%CI = 1.00 – 1.00), durable goods (OR = 1.16, 95% CI = 1.12 – 1.19), marital status (married: OR = 1.97,

Introduction:The Canadian Forest Fire danger Rating System(CFFdRS)is a globally known wildland fire risk assessment system,and two major components,the fire weather index system and the fire behavior prediction system,have been extensively used both nationally and internationally to aid operational wildland fire decision ***:In this paper,we present an overview of an R package cffdrs,which is developed to calculate components of the CFFdRS,and highlight some of its *** particular,we demonstrate how these functions could be used for large data *** and discussion:With this cffdrs package,we provide a portal for not only a collection of R functions dealing with all available components in CFFdRS but also a platform for various additional developments that are useful for the understanding of fire occurrence and *** is the first time that all relevant CFFdRS methods are incorporated into the same platform,which can be accessed by both the management and research communities.

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation and testosterone did not influence heterotopic ossification size after spinal cord injury: A case series

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation(NMES) and testosterone replacement therapy(TRT) are effective rehabilitation strategies to attenuate muscle atrophy and evoke hypertrophy in persons with spinal cord injury(SCI). However both interventions might increase heterotopic ossification(HO) size in SCI patients. We present the results of two men with chronic traumatic motor complete SCI who also had pre-existing HO and participated in a study investigating the effects of TRT or TRT plus NMES resistance training(RT) on body composition. The 49-year-old male, Subject A, has unilateral HO in his right thigh. The 31-year-old male, Subject B, has bilateral HO in both thighs. Both participants wore transdermal testosterone patches(4-6 mg/d) daily for 16 wk. Subject A also underwent progressive NMES-RT twice weekly for 16 wk. Magnetic resonance imaging scans were acquired prior to and post intervention. Cross-sectional areas(CSA) of thewhole thigh and knee extensor skeletal muscles, femoral bone, and HO were measured. In Subject A(NMES-RT + TRT), the whole thigh skeletal muscle CSA increased by 10%, the knee extensor CSA increased by 17%, and the HO + femoral bone CSA did not change. In Subject B(TRT), the whole thigh skeletal muscle CSA increased by 13% in the right thigh and 6% in the left thigh. The knee extensor CSA increased by 7% in the right thigh and did not change in the left thigh. The femoral bone and HO CSAs in both thighs did not change. Both the TRT and NMES-RT + TRT protocols evoked muscle hypertrophy without stimulating the growth of preexisting HO.
