Following the unanimous recommendation of the International Commission on Stratigraphy, the Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for the base of the Cenomanian Stage is defined at a level 36 metres below the top of the Marnes Bleues Formation, a level that corresponds to the the first appearance of the planktonic foraminiferan Rotalipora globotruncanoides Sigal, 1948, on the south side of Mont Risou, east of Rosans, Haute-Alpes, France, where it can be placed in the context of a series of secondary marker levels based on nannofossils, planktonic foraminifera, ammonites,and an ornate δ^13C curve.

The efficacy of an activated sludge (modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE)) UV disinfection processes in removing human noroviruses and E. coli from sewage were compared with the prevalence of these microorganisms in a settled storm discharge from the same sewage treatment works. Both discharges impacted a designated oyster production area. The treatment process delivered average NoV and E. coli reductions of 2.9log10 and 5.2log10, respectively. Most E. coli reductions occurred during the UV disinfection process whereas the MLE process was comparatively more important in reducing NoV levels. A positive relationship was found between NoV removal and measured applied UV dose. The average levels of total NoV in the settled storm tank were of the same order of magnitude of those in screened raw influent at the works. These results highlight the importance of measures to reduce the impact of stormwater discharges to minimise the risk of NoV gastroenteritis associated with the consumption of oysters.

AIM: To investigate whether accelerated catabolism of ganglioside and decreased ganglioside content contribute to the etiology of pro-inflammatory intestinal disease. METHODS: Intestinal mucosa from terminal ileum or colon was obtained from patients with ulcerative colitis or inflammatory Crohn's disease(n = 11) undergoing bowel resection and compared to control samples of normal intestine from patients with benign colon polyps(n = 6) and colorectal cancer(n = 12) in this observational case-control study. Gangliosides and phospholipids of intestinal mucosa were characterized by class and ceramide or fatty acid composition using liquid chromatography triple-quad mass spectrometry. Content and composition of ganglioside classes GM1, GM3, GD3, GD1 a, GT1 and GT3 were compared among subject groups. Content and composition of phospholipid classes phosphatidylcholine(PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine were compared among subject groups. Unsaturation index of individual ganglioside and phospholipid classes was computed and compared among subject groups. Ganglioside catabolism enzymes beta-hexosaminidase A(HEXA) and sialidase-3(NEU3) were measured in intestinal mucosa using western blot and compared among subject groups. RESULTS: Relative GM3 ganglioside content was 2-fold higher(P < 0.05) in intestine from patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) compared to control intestine. The quantity of GM3 and ratio of GM3/GD3 was also higher in IBD intestine than control tissue(P < 0.05). Control intestine exhibited 3-fold higher(P < 0.01) relative GD1 a ganglioside content than IBD intestine. GD3 and GD1 a species of ganglioside containing three unsaturated bonds were present in control intestine, but were not detected in IBD intestine. The relative content of PC containing more than two unsaturated bonds was 30% lower in IBD intestine than control intestine(P < 0.05). The relative content of HEXA in IBD intestine was increased 1.7-fold(P < 0.05) and NEU3 was increased 8.3-fold(P < 0.01) compared to normal intestine. Intesti

甲胺分子(CH3NH2)是最简单的胺类分子,但由于分子中振动-转动-扭动-反转的相互作用使得其能级结构复杂和丰富密集且谱线强度差异很大的波谱,尤其是在频率中心位于1 044cm-1的C—N伸缩振动带。我们使用利用兰姆凹陷光谱技术自主研发的分辨率为0.4 MHz的二氧化碳激光和微波边带红外光谱仪将甲胺分子的C—N伸缩振动带的多普勒光谱中密集重合在一起的上百条谱线逐条分辨开和精密地测量了它们的跃迁频率。将它们标识归类和对j(j+1)作幂级数展开后,我们求得了27个系列的最初跃迁频率和它们的有效转动常数。

目的:探讨是否可用帕金森病修订的诊断、自主神经作用、心血管作用、更快的疾病进展或药物相互作用来解释服用左旋多巴和司来吉林随机试验病人的额外死亡。设计:采用开放、随机试验、双盲对照和对死亡原因重新再分组的方法进行研究,病人来源于1985～1990年间93所医院,统计截止于1993年12月前死亡的病人,分第一组和第二组。组织单位:英国研究对象:624例没有接受过多巴胺制剂治疗的早期帕金森病病人和在试验期间死亡的120例。研究方法:第一组服用左旋多巴和多巴脱羧酶抑制剂;第二组服用左旋多巴和多巴脱羧酶抑制剂并联合应用司来吉林;第三组单独服用溴隐亭。主要数据:第一、二组520例及由第三组随机分到第一、二组的104例病人的死亡原因。根据专家组意见、修订的诊断和疾病残疾程度、自主神经和心血管疾病记录的证据、死前其它临床特征和药物相互作用,分析死于原来第一、二组病例的特殊额外死因。结果:将随访延期到1995年9月底(平均6.8年),当第二组试验停止时,第二组的危险比与第一组相比是1.32(95%可信范围在0.98～1.79之间)。将第三组病例随机分入第二组后,其危险比是1.54(0.83～2.87)。当包括全部病例时,其危险比是1.33(1.02～1.74),调整其它基本因素后其危险比是1.30(0.99～1.72)。其额外死亡似乎在随访至第三或四年时为最高。病因特异性死亡率显示额外死亡仅源于帕金森病(其危险率是2.5(1.3～4.7))。修订的诊断、疾病的残疾记分、自主神经或心血管意外、其它临床特征或药物相互作用等均未发现有明显差异。第二组与第一组相比,发现第二组病人在死亡前多合并有可能的痴呆和摔倒史。结论:这些结果一致地显示服用左旋多巴和司来吉林联合治疗的病人有额外死亡。修订的诊断、自主神经和心血管意外或药物的相互作用都不能解释此所见,但摔倒和可能的痴呆在第二组中更常见。本试验结果不支持对早期诊断的帕金森病人进行联合治疗。在疾病晚期,对伴有体位性低血压、意识模糊或痴呆的病人,可以应用联合治疗。

The clinical diagnosis of progressive supranuclear palsy(PSP) relies on the id entification of characteristic signsand symptoms. A proportion of pathologically diagnosed cases do not develop these classic features, prove difficult to diagn ose during life and are considered as atypical PSP. The aim of this study was to examine the apparent clinical dichotomy between typical and atypical PSP, and t o compare the biochemical and genetic characteristics of these groups. In 103 co nsecutive cases of pathologically confirmed PSP, we have identified two clinical phenotypes by factor analysis which we have named Richardson’s syndrome (RS) a nd PSP-parkinsonism (PSP-P). Cases of RS syndrome made up 54%of all cases, an d were characterized by the early onset of postural instability and falls, supra nuclear vertical gaze palsy and cognitive dysfunction. A second group of 33 (32 %) were characterized by asymmetric onset, tremor, a moderate initial therapeut ic response to levodopa and were frequently confused with Parkinson’s disease ( PSP-P). Fourteen cases (14%)-could not be separated according to these criter ia. In RS, two-thirds of cases were men, whereas the sex distribution in PSP-P was even. Disease duration in RS was significantly shorter (5.9 versus 9.1 year s, P < 0.001)-and age at death earlier (72.1 versus 75.5 years, P=0.01) than in PSP-P. The isoform composition of insoluble tangle-tau isolated from the basa l pons also differed significantly. In RS, the mean four-repeat: three-repeat tau ratio was 2.84 and in PSP-P it was 1.63 (P< 0.003). The effect of the H1,H1 PSP susceptibility genotype appeared stronger in RS than in PSP-P (odds ratio 13.2 versus 4.5). The difference in genotype frequencies between the clinical su bgroups was not significant. There were no differences in apolipoprotein E genot ypes. The classic clinical description of PSP, which includes supranuclear gaze palsy, early falls and dementia, does not adequately describe one-third of case s in this series of pathologically confirmed cases.
