This paper extends recent research into the usefulness of volunteered photos for land cover extraction,and investigates whether this usefulness can be automatically assessed by an easily accessible,off-the-shelf neural network pre-trained on a variety of scene *** photographs are sometimes presented to volunteers as part of a game which requires them to extract relevant facts about land *** challenge is to select the most relevant photographs in order to most efficiently extract the useful information while maintaining the engagement and interests of *** repurposing an existing network which had been trained on an extensive library of potentially relevant features,we can quickly carry out initial assessments of the general value of this approach,pick out especially salient features,and identify focus areas for future neural network training and *** compare two approaches to extract land cover information from the network:a simple post hoc weighting approach accessible to non-technical audiences and a more complex decision tree approach that involves training on domain-specific features of *** approaches had reasonable success in characterizing human influence within a scene when identifying the land use types(as classified by Urban Atlas)present within a buffer around the photograph’s *** work identifies important limitations and opportunities for using volunteered photographs as follows:(1)the false precision of a photograph’s location is less useful for identifying on-the-spot land cover than the information it can give on neighbouring combinations of land cover;(2)groundacquired photographs,interpreted by a neural network,can supplement plan view imagery by identifying features which will never be discernible from above;(3)when dealing with contexts where there are very few exemplars of particular classes,an independent a posteriori weighting of existing scene attributes and categories can buffer

The solid state synthesis of the phase"ce_(3)NbO_(7+δ)",from stoichiometric quantities of ceO_(2)and Nb_(2)O_(5),was investigated under air atmosphere,as previously described by Zhang et al.(Journal of Rare Earths,2007,25,730-733),A combination of powder X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis,and laboratory ce L_(3)X-ray absorption spectroscopy,demonstrates the product of the reaction to be a mixture of ceO_(2)and ceNbO_(4).These data,and reexamination of the published X-ray diffraction data of"ce_(3)NbO_(7+δ)",are consistent with this phase in fact being ceO_(2).No evidence for the formation of a phase of composition"ce_(3)NbO_(7+δ)"is found,by solid state synthesis under air atmosphere.

Background:Neurocysticercosis(Ncc)is a parasitic infection of the human central nervous system,the most common form of which involves infection of the brain parenchyma with the larval form of the Taenia solium tapeworm.A causal relationship between such an Ncc infection and the development of epilepsy in infected individuals is acknowledged,in part supported by high levels of comorbidity in endemic countries ***:This study undertook a systematic review and critical analysis of the Ncc-epilepsy relationship with the primary objective of quantifying the risk of developing epilepsy following Ncc infection.A secondary aim was to analyse the proportions of Ncc-associated epilepsy within different *** emphasis was placed on the importance of neuroimaging(cT or MRI)availability and use of clear guidelines for epilepsy diagnosis,in order to avoid overestimations of prevalence rates of either condition;a limitation identified in several previous ***:A common odds ratio of 2.76 was identified from meta-analysis of case-control studies,indicating that an individual infected with Ncc has almost a three times higher risk of developing epilepsy than an uninfected ***,meta-analysis of studies identified a common proportion of 31.54%of epilepsy cases associated with Ncc infection which suggests that amongst epileptic populations in at risk countries,approximately one-third may be associated with Ncc ***:A significant finding was the lack of good clinical data to enable accurate determination of a causal *** studies that were included had noticeable limitations,including a general lack of consistency in diagnostics,and lack of accurate epidemiological *** review highlights a need for consistency in research in this *** the absence of reliable estimates of its global burden,Ncc will remain of low priority in the eyes of funding agencies-a truly neglected disease.

Previous observations of cannibalism have been made in the aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum （L.）： this article seeks to quantify factors contributing to such be- haviors. We observed and quantified the responses of a number of clones and life stages to varying levels of starvation, in the form of increasingly desiccated Vicafaba L. plants （receiving 50, 25, or 10 mL every second day） or a complete absence of host plant. We found that, while the longest incidences of cannibalism are carried out by juveniles （F = 3.45, P = 0.019, df = 3） and targeted at adults, the starvation treatments had the most significant effect on the prevalence of cannibalism in mature A. pisum （F ---- 2.24, P = 0.025, df = 9）. Furthermore, there was no difference between the prevalence or dura- tion of cannibalistic activities within and between different clones （P 〉 0.05 in all cases）, though juveniles were more likely to target unrelated aphids （V = 6 112, P = 0.011）, and spent more time feeding on aphids from the same culture （V = 6 062, P = 0.018）.

We present a high performance modularly-built open-source *** is a c++implementation of the modified immersed finite element method(mIFEM)to solve fluid-structure interaction(FSI)*** software is modularly built to perform multiple tasks including fluid dynamics(incompressible and slightly compressible fluid models),linear and nonlinear solid mechanics,and fully coupled fluid-structure *** of open-source software packages are restricted to certain discretization methods;some are under-tested,under-documented,and lack modularity as well as *** is designed and built to include a set of generic classes for users to adapt so that any fluid and solid solvers can be coupled through the FSI *** addition,the package utilizes well-developed and tested *** also comes with standard test cases that serve as software and algorithm *** software can be built on cross-platform,i.e.,Linux,Windows,and Mac OS,using *** parallelization is also implemented for high-performance computing for large-sized *** is documented using Doxygen and publicly available to download on *** is expected to benefit the future development of FSI algorithms and be applied to a variety of FSI applications.

AIM: To test for association of SLc11A1 with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) status in a caucasian cohort. METHODS: Five hundred and seven crohn's disease (cD) patients, 474 ulcerative colitis (Uc) patients, and 569 healthy controls were genotyped for SLc11A1 1730G>A and SLc11A1 469+14G>c using pre-designed TaqMan  SNP assays. χ 2 tests were applied to test for association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with disease, and the presence of MAP ***:SLc11A1 1730G>A and SLc11A 1469+14G>c were not associated with cD, Uc, or IBD. The SLc11A1 1730A minor allele was over-represented in patients who did not require immunomodulator therapy (P = 0.002, OR: 0.29, 95% cI: 0.13-0.66). The frequency of the SLc11A1 469+14c allele was higher in the subset of study participants who tested positive for MAP DNA (P = 0.02, OR: 1.56, 95% cI: 1.06-2.29). No association of SLc11A1 1730G>A with MAP was ***: Although SLc11A1 was not associated with IBD, association with MAP suggests that SLc11A1 is important in determining susceptibility to bacteria implicated in the etiology of cD.
