Flexible electronics utilizing single crystalline semiconductors typically require post-growth processes to assemble and incorporate the crystalline materials onto flexible substrates. Here we present a high-precision transfer-printing method for vertical arrays of single crystalline semiconductor materials with widely varying aspect ratios and densities enabling the assembly of arrays on flexible substrates in a vertical fashion. Complementary fabrication processes for integrating transferred arrays into flexible devices are also presented and characterized. Robust contacts to transferred silicon wire arrays are demonstrated and shown to be stable under flexing stress down to bending radii of 20 mm. The fabricated devices exhibit a reversible tactile response enabling silicon based, nonpiezoelectric, and flexible tactile sensors. The presented system leads the way towards high-throughput, manufacturable, and scalable fabrication of flexible devices.

Previous reports have suggested that hypothalamic urocortin 1 (Ucn1) exerts inhibitory control on energy metabolism as direct paraventricular nucleus injections dose-dependently decrease the respiratory energy exchange ratio (RER). Other evidence indicates that Ucn1 injections into the lateral septum may alter metabolic function. Consequently, the present study was designed to further characterize the effects of lateral septal Ucn1 signaling on eating and energy metabolism of adult Sprague-Dawley rats. Ucn1 was infused at the onset of the nocturnal cycle at doses of 10 - 100 pmol. In both females and males the peptide elicited a reliable suppression of food intake and significantly lowered RER over a 4 h postinjection period. The decrease in RER is consistent with enhanced lipid oxidation. Overall these findings suggest that, similar to the paraventricular nucleus, the lateral septum is a critical site of action in mediating the effects of Ucn1 on food intake and energy substrate utilization.

The compositions and distributions of monoterpenes, isoprene, aromatics and sesquiterpene SOA tracers (SOAM, SOAI, SOAA and SOAS, respectively) at an island site (Da Wan Shan Island, DWS) were investigated in the context of the influence of continental and marine air masses over the Pearl River Estuary (PRE) region in winter 2021. The sum concentration of SOA tracers was 6.2-132.8 ng m-3, with SOAM and SOAI as the main components in both continental (scenarios A1 and A2) and marine air masses (scenario A3), as well as their combination (scenario A4). The highest and lowest levels of SOAM were observed in A1 and A3, respectively, which were mainly related to the variations in meteorological conditions, precursor concentrations, and the degree of photochemical processes. Higher MBTCA/HGA (3-methyl-1,2,3-butanetricarboxylic acid/3-hydroxyglutaric acid) ratios suggested a less significant contribution from alpha-pinene to SOAM. The variations of SOAI in the different scenarios were associated with differences in relative humidity, particle acidity, and isoprene/NOx ratios. The respective highest and lowest concentrations of aromatics SOA tracers in A1 and A3 revealed the influence of anthropogenic precursors from upwind continental areas, which was confirmed by the correlation among biogenic and anthropogenic precursors. The results of the tracer-based-method suggested dominant contributions of SOAs from aromatics and monoterpenes, with the highest concentrations in A1. A WRF-Chem simulation revealed that the SOAs from the above precursors only contributed 12%-25% to the total SOA at DWS, while the spatial distributions of SOAs further highlighted that the abundance of SOAs over the PRE region in winter is highly associated with air masses transported from upwind continental areas.

Reference control points (RCPs) used in establishing the regression model in the regis-tration or geometric correction of remote sensing images are generally assumed to be “perfect”. That is, the RCPs, as explanatory variables in the regression equation, are accurate and the coordinates of their locations have no errors. Thus ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator has been applied exten-sively to the registration or geometric correction of remotely sensed data. However, this assumption is often invalid in practice because RCPs always contain errors. Moreover, the errors are actually one of the main sources which lower the accuracy of geometric correction of an uncorrected image. Under this situation, the OLS estimator is biased. It cannot handle explanatory variables with errors and cannot propagate appropriately errors from the RCPs to the corrected image. Therefore, it is essential to develop new feasible methods to overcome such a problem. This paper introduces a consistent adjusted least squares (CALS) estimator and proposes relaxed consistent adjusted least squares (RCALS) estimator, with the latter being more general and flexible, for geometric correction or regis-tration. These estimators have good capability in correcting errors contained in the RCPs, and in propagating appropriately errors of the RCPs to the corrected image with and without prior information. The objective of the CALS and proposed RCALS estimators is to improve the accuracy of measure-ment value by weakening the measurement errors. The conceptual arguments are substantiated by a real remotely sensed data. Compared to the OLS estimator, the CALS and RCALS estimators give a superior overall performance in estimating the regression coefficients and variance of measurement errors.

A perturbation analysis based on equations of motion in Lagrangian form is presented for the oscillatory and time-mean viscous flows induced by a propagating wave of small amplitude in an annulus with a viscoelastic outer wall. Owing to the steady streaming effect, the existence of a catheter in a blood vessel brings in an additional steady pressure gradient, a correction to that predicted by the linear theory, and an additional steady shear stress, which may increase the possibility of hemolysis of red blood cells.

This paper developed a new method that adaptively adjusts a design space by considering the actual solution distribution of a problem to overcome the conventional design-space adaptation method that assumes the solutions distribution to be a normal distribution because the distributions of solutions are rarely normal distributions for real-world *** developed method was applied to nineteen multiobjective test functions that are widely used to evaluate the characteristics and performance of optimization *** results showed that this method adapted the design space to an appropriate design space where the solution existence probability was *** optimization performance achieved using the developed method was higher than that of the conventional ***,the developed method was applied to the conceptual design of an unmanned spacecraft to confirm its validity in real-world design and multidisciplinaryoptimization *** results showed that the Pareto solutions of the developed method were superior to those of conventional ***,the optimization efficiency with the developed method was improved by more than 1.4 times over that of the conventional *** this regard,the developed method has the potential to be applied to complicated real-world optimization problems to achieve better performance and efficiency.
