Variability in the blood-breath ratio(BBR)of alcohol is important,because it relates a mea-surement of the blood-alcohol concentration(BAC)with the co-existing breath-alcohol con-centration(BrAC).The BBR is also used to establish the statutory BrAC limit for driving from the existing statutory BAC limits in different *** in-vivo BBR depends on a host of analytical,sampling and physiological factors,including subject demographics,time after end of drinking(rising or falling BAC),the nature of the blood draw(whether venous or arterial)and the subject's breathing pattern prior to exhalation into the breath *** results from a controlled drinking study involving healthy volunteers(85 men and 15 women)from three ethnic groups(Caucasians,Hispanics and African Americans)were used to evaluate various factors influencing the *** in breath was determined with a quantitative infrared analyzer(Intoxilyzer 8000)and BAC was determined by headspace gas chromatography(HS-GC).The BAC and BrAC were highly correlated(r = 0.948)and the BBR in the post-absorptive state was 2 382±119(mean ± SD).The BBR did not depend on gen-der(female:2 396±101 and male:2 380±123,P>0.05)nor on racial group(Caucasians 2 398±124,African Americans 2 344±119 and Hispanics 2 364±104,P>0.05).The BBR was lower in subjects with higher breath-and body-temperatures(P<0.05)and it also decreased with longer exhalation times into the breath-analyzer(P<0.001).In the post-absorptive state,none of the 100 subjects had a BBR of less than 2 100∶1.

The results of an investigation into the relationship between surface sediment subfossil chi- ronomid distribution and water quality are presented. Data from 30 lakes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River indicate that the nutrient gradi- ent was the major factor affecting the distribution of chironomids across these sites. Canonical corre- spondence analysis (CCA) revealed that of 12 sum- mer water environmental variables, total Phosphorus was most important, accounting for 20.1% of the variance in the chironomid data. This was significant enough to allow the development of quantitative in- ference models. A TP inference model was devel- oped using weighted averaging (WA), partial least squares (PLS) and weighted averaging partial least squares (WA-PLS). An optimal two-component WA-PLS model provided a high jack-knifed coeffi- cient of prediction for conductivity r 2jack = 0.76, with a low root mean squared error of prediction (RMSEPjack = 0.13). Using this model it is possible to produce long-term quantitative records of past water quality for lacustrine sites across the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, which has important implications for future lake management and eco- logical restoration.

Background: The impact of perioperative intravenous fluid administration on surgical outcomes has been documented in literature, but not specifically studied in the context of hepato-pancreato-biliary(HPB) surgery. This study aimed to investigate the impact of postoperative intravenous fluid administration on intensive care unit(ICU), in this subgroup of patients. Methods: A single-center retrospective cohort of 241 HPB patients was assessed, focusing on intravenous fluid administration in ICU, during the first 24 h. Intravenous fluid variables were compared to hospital stay and postoperative complications. Data were assessed using Spearman's correlation test for bivariate correlations and logistic regression for multivariate analysis. Results: The median volume of intravenous fluid administered in the first 24 h postoperatively was 4380 mL, of which 2200 mL was crystalloid, 1500 mL colloid and 680 mL "other" fluid. Patients with one or more complications had a higher median total intravenous fluid input(4790 vs. 4300 mL), higher colloid volume(20 0 0 vs. 150 0 mL), lower urine output(1595 vs. 1900 mL) and greater overall fluid balance( + 3040 vs. + 2553 mL) than those without complications. There were correlations between total intravenous fluid volume administered( r = 0.278, P alance( r = 0.344, P alance were both independent significant predictors(OR = 2.463, P = 0.007; OR = 1.001, P = 0.011; respectively). Conclusions: Administration of high volumes of intravenous fluids in the first 24 hours post-HPB surgery, along with higher positive fluid balance is associated with a higher rate of complications and longer hospital stay. 为了比较全面、客观地认识青藏高原岩石圈深部结构,探讨高原岩石圈形变特征、应变状态、热结构、板块(或地体)运动和壳、幔物质流变等重要科学问题,必须研究高原内部各个地质构造区域壳、幔电性结构沿东西方向的变化;INDEPTH-MT在喜马拉雅-西藏南部地区完成了6条超宽频带大地电磁深探测剖面研究.通过这6条剖面的电性结构成像,讨论了研究区地壳和上地幔导电性三维结构特点;发现西藏南部沿东西方向超出1000km范围,较普遍存在中、下地壳高导层,这高导层并不完全是连续的,向雅鲁藏布江大拐弯处高导层变薄、变浅、电阻率升高.讨论了藏南岩石圈的流变性问题,认为藏南中、下地壳具有良导电性,可以证明西藏巨厚的地壳中确实存在部分"熔融体"和"热流体",藏南巨厚的中、下地壳的物质状态是热的、软弱的、塑性的,甚至可能是"流变"的;结合岩石物理实验结果的讨论认为,与藏南大地电磁资料相适应的地壳部分熔融百分比应能达到5%～14%;对于地壳中的细晶岩来说,在这个熔融百分比下引起黏度的降低量有可能达到引起地壳"流变性"的要求;但对于花岗岩来说,也许不足以引起地壳产生"流变".

Lithospheric Electrical Structure across the Eastern Segment of the Altyn Tagh Fault on the Northern Margin of the Tibetan Plateau

Project INDEPTH （InterNational DEep Profiling of Tibet and the Himalaya） is an interdisciplinary program designed to develop a better understanding of deep structures and mechanics of the Tibetan Plateau. As a component of magnetoteUuric （MT） work in the 4th phase of the project, MT data were collected along a profile that crosses the eastern segment of the Altyn Tagh fault on the northern margin of the plateau. Time series data processing used robust algorithms to give high quality responses. Dimensionality analysis showed that 2D approach is only valid for the northern section of the profile. Consequently, 2D inversions were only conducted for the northern section, and 3D inversions were conducted on MT data from the whole profile. From the 2D inversion model, the eastern segment of the Altyn Tagh fault only appears as a crustal structure, which suggests accommodation of strike slip motion along the Altyn Tagh fault by thrusting within the Qilian block. A large-scale off-proffie conductor within the mid-lower crust of the Qilian block was revealed from the 3D inversion model, which is probably correlated with the North Qaidam thrust belt. Furthermore, the unconnected conductors from the 3D inversion model indicate that deformations in the study area are generally localized.
