Colorectal cancer screening in countries of European Council outside of the EU-28

AIM: To provide an update on colorectal cancer(CRC) screening programmes in non-European Union(EU)-28 Council of Europe member states as of December 2015. METHODS: The mission of the Council of Europe is to protect and promote human rights in its 47 member countries. Its 19 non-EU member states are Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, FYR of Macedonia, Turkey, and Ukraine(EU-19). The main data source were GLOBOCAN, IARC, WHO, EUCAN, NORDCAN, ENCR, volume X of the CI5, the ministerial and Public Health Agency websites of the individual countries, Pub Med, EMBASE, registries of some websites and the ***, Scopus, ***, ***, Research gate, Google and data extracted from screening programme results. RESULTS: Our results show that epidemiological data quality varies broadly between EU-28 and EU-19 countries. In terms of incidence, only 30% of EU-19 countries rank high in data quality as opposed to 86% of EU-28 states. The same applies to mortality data, since 52% of EU-19 countries as against all EU-28 countries are found in the high ranks. Assessment of the method of collection of incidence data showed that only 32% of EU-19 countries are found in the top three quality classes as against 89% of EU-28 countries. For the mortality data, 63% of EU-19 countries are found in the highest ranks as opposed to all EU-28 member states. Interestingly, comparison of neighbouring countries offering regional screening shows, for instance, that incidence and mortality rates are respectively 38.9 and 13.0 in Norway and 29.2 and10.9 in Sweden, whereas in Finland, where a national organised programme is available, they are respectively 23.5 and 9.3. The deep geological repository for radioactive waste in Switzerland will be embedded in an approximately 100 m thick layer of Opalinus *** emplacement drifts for high-level waste(approximately 3.5 m diameter)are planned to be excavated with a shielded tunnel boring machine(TBM)and supported by a segmental *** the repository depth of 900 m in the designated siting region N€ordlich L€agern,squeezing conditions may be encountered due to the rock strength and the high hydrostatic pressure(90 bar).This paper presents a detailed assessment of the shield jamming and lining overstressing hazards,considering a stiff lining(resistance principle)and a deformable lining(yielding principle),and proposes conceptual design *** assessment is based on three-dimensional transient hydromechanical simulations,which additionally consider the effects of ground anisotropy and the desaturation that may occur under negative pore pressures generated during the drift *** addressing these design issues,the paper takes the opportunity to analyse some more fundamental aspects related to the influences of anisotropy and desaturation on the development of rock convergences and pressures over time,and their markedly different effects on the two lining *** results demonstrate that,regardless of these effects,shield jamming can be avoided with a moderate TBM overcut,however overstressing of a stiff lining may be critical depending on whether the ground *** uncertainty is eliminated using a deformable system with reasonable dimensions of yielding elements,which can also accommodate thermal strains generated due to the high temperature of the disposal canisters.

The Early Paleozoic evolution of the northern margin of Gondwana is characterized by several episodes of bimodal magmatism intruded or outpoured within thick sedimentary basins. These processes are well recorded in the Variscan blocks incorporated in the Ligurian Alps because they experienced low temperature Alpine metamorphism. During the Paleozoic, these blocks, together with the other Alpine basements, were placed between the Corsica-Sardinia and the Bohemian Massif along the northern margin of Gondwana. In this framework, they host several a variegated lithostratigraphy forming two main complexes(Complexs I and II) that can be distinguished by both the protoliths and their crosscutting relationships, which indicate that the acidic and mafic intrusives of Complex II cut an already folded sequence made of sediments, basalts and granitoids of Complex I. Both complexes were involved in the Variscan orogenic phases as highlighted by the pervasive eclogite-amphibolite facies schistosity(foliation II). However, rare relicts of a metamorphic foliation at amphibolite facies conditions(foliation I)is locally preserved only in the rocks of Complex I. It is debatable if this schistosity was produced during the early folding event e occurred between the emplacement of Complex I and II e rather than during an early stage of the Variscan metamorphic *** SHRIMP and LA ICP-MS Ue Pb zircon dating integrated with literature data, provide emplacement ages of the several volcanic or intrusive bodies of both complexes. The igneous activity of Complex I is dated between 507 ± 15 Ma and 494 ± 5 Ma, while Complex II between 467 ± 12 Ma and 445.5 ± 12 *** folding event recorded only by the Complex I should therefore have occurred between 494 ± 5 Ma and 467 ± 12 Ma. The Variscan eclogite-amphibolite facies metamorphism is instead constrained between ~420 Ma and ~300 Ma. In order to exploit the outstanding physical properties of one-dimensional （1D） nanostructures such as carbon nanotubes and semiconducting nanowires and nanorods in future technological applications, it will be necessary to organize them on surfaces with precise control over both position and orientation. Here, we use a 1D rigid DNA motif as a model for studying directed assembly at the molecular scale to lithographically patterned nanodot anchors. By matching the inter-nanodot spacing to the length of the DNA nanostructure, we are able to achieve nearly 100% placement yield. By varying the length of single-stranded DNA linkers bound covalently to the nanodots, we are able to study the binding selectivity as a function of the strength of the binding interactions. We analyze the binding in terms of a thermodynamic model which provides insight into the bivalent nature of the binding, a scheme that has general applicability for the controlled assembly of a broad range of functional nanostructures.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a viral infection caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2;formerly designated as 2019-nCoV),a novel betacoronavirus firstly identified during a burst of respiratory illness cases in Wuhan City,Hubei Province,China.1 Unfortunately,within a few weeks,the SARS-COV2 virus started to spread globally,producing a pandemic of an extremely spreadable and potentially fatal disease,becoming a cause of great concern for global public health.1 Despite the current estimates of COVID-19 case fatality rate suggest that this coronavirus is less deadly than other pathogens driving other large-scale outbreaks,such as SARS,Middle East respiratory syndrome,or Ebola,the main concern is that this infection is able to spread more easily than other diseases,including seasonal influenza.

BACKGROUND Two-stage hepatectomy(TSH)is a well-established surgical technique,used to treat bilateral colorectal liver metastases(CRLM)with a small future liver remnant(FLR).However,in classical TSH,drop-out is reported to be around 25%-40%,due to insufficient FLR increase or progression of ***-arterial radioembolization(TARE)has been described to control locally tumor growth of liver malignancies such as hepatocellular carcinoma,but it has been also reported to induce a certain degree of contralateral liver hypertrophy,even if at a lower rate compared to portal vein embolization or *** SUMMARY Herein we report the case of a 75-year-old female patient,where TSH and TARE were combined to treat bilateral *** to computed tomography(CT)-scan,the patient had a hepatic lesion in segment VI-VII and two other confluent lesions in segment ***,one-stage posterior right sectionectomy plus left lateral sectionectomy(LLS)was *** liver volumetry estimated a FLR of 38%(segments I-IV-V-VIII).However,due to a more than initially planned,extended right resection,simultaneous LLS was not performed and the patient underwent selective TARE to segments II-III after the first *** CT-scan performed after TARE showed a reduction of the treated lesion and a FLR increase of 55%.Carcinoembryonic antigen and CA 19.9 decreased *** three months later after the first surgery,LLS was performed and the patient was discharged without any postoperative *** According to this specific experience,TARE was used to induce liver hypertrophy and simultaneously control cancer progression in TSH settings for bilateral CRLM.
