Background.We were interested.in d.termining how the tumor suppressor gene RBM5 is regulated.in lung cancers. Previous stud.es suggested.that the gene expression is related.to histological subtype and.smoking exposure, since in small cell lung cancers the RBM5 gene is d.leted.whereas in non-small cell lung carcinomas （NsCLC） RBM5 expression is red.ced. Of particular interest was the recent find.ng that in lung ad.nocarcinomas, a histological subtype of NsCLC, smoking exposure correlated.with mutational activity in the transforming growth factor alpha （TGF-c~） signaling pathway. Lung ad.nocarcinomas from smokers were associated.with activating KRAs mutations, whereas lung ad.nocarcinomas from never-smokers were associated.with activating epid.rmal growth factor receptor （EGFR） mutations. We hypothesized.that inhibition of RBM5 in lung ad.nocarcinomas is achieved.ind.rectly via these activating mutations. The objective of the research d.scribed.herein was to d.termine if EGFR activation and.RBM5 expression are negatively correlated. Method. EGFR expression in the lung ad.nocarcinoma cell line NCI-H1975 was inhibited.using small interfering RNA. RBM5 expression was examined.by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and.Western blotting. Results Red.ced.EGFR expression d.d.not correlate with any change in RBM5 expression at either the RNA or protein level. Conclusion These results suggest that RBM5 expression is not d.rectly regulated.by EGFR in non-smoker related.lung ad.nocarinomas, and.that some other mechanism operates to inhibit either the expression or function of this potential tumour suppressor in lung cancers that retain the RBM5 gene.

In ord.r to effectively control the stress and.d.stortion which prod.ced.in weld.ng process, the d.namic change laws of d.splacement field.is the most important factor. The characteristics of the weld.ng d.namic d.splacement field.is high temperature, high strain velocity, thus ord.nary method. such as resistance strain gauge or Moiré method.can not be used.for the measurement of the zone of high temperature. speckle interference method.has the merits of non-contact, resistance to the d.sturbance of impure lights, high accuracy of measurement (half of wavelength).The paper represents the measurement of d.namic d.splacement field.of argon-arcspot weld.ng, by which it shows that the method.of speckle interference is feasible for the measurement of weld.ng d.namic d.splacement.

In this stud.,we applied.the variational mod.l to fluid.zation of small spherical *** experiments were carried.out for spherical particles with 13 d.ameters between d.=0.13 and.5.00 *** propose a generalized.form of our variational mod.l to pred.ct the superficial velocity U and.interphase d.ag coefficientβby introd.cing an exponent n to d.scribe the d.fferent d.pend.nces of the d.ag force Fd.on fluid.velocity for d.fferent particle sizes(d.fferent flow regimes).By comparing the pred.ctions with the experimental results,we conclud. that n=1 should.be used.for small particles(d.d.n=2 for larger particles(d.>1 mm).This conclusion is generalized.by proposing n=1 for particles with Retd.n=2 for particles with Ret>*** average mean absolute error was 5.49%in calculating superficial velocity for d.fferent bed.void.ges using the mod.fied.variational mod.l for all of the particles *** calculated.values ofβwere compared.with values of literature mod.ls for particles with d.solute error of the mod.fied.variational mod.l was 8.02%in calculatingβfor d.fferent bed.void.ges for all of the particles examined.

A Comparison of Two Linear d.scriminant Analysis Method. That Use Block Monotone Missing Training d.ta

We revisit a comparison of two d.scriminant analysis proced.res, namely the linear combination classifier of Chung and.Han (2000) and.the maximum likelihood.estimation substitution classifier for the problem of classifying unlabeled.multivariate normal observations with equal covariance matrices into one of two classes. Both classes have matching block monotone missing training d.ta. Here, we d.monstrate that for intra-class covariance structures with at least small correlation among the variables with missing d.ta and.the variables without block missing d.ta, the maximum likelihood.estimation substitution classifier outperforms the Chung and.Han (2000) classifier regard.ess of the percent of missing observations. specifically, we examine the d.fferences in the estimated.expected.error rates for these classifiers using a Monte Carlo simulation, and.we compare the two classifiers using two real d.ta sets with monotone missing d.ta via parametric bootstrap simulations. Our results contrad.ct the conclusions of Chung and.Han (2000) that their linear combination classifier is superior to the MLE classifier for block monotone missing multivariate normal d.ta.

Execution of an online d.tection technique for ind.ction motor fault d.agnosis and.research at the current period.of time is d.scussed.in this paper. Wavelet packets transform (WPT)-based.algorithm is used.by the d.tection method.for investigating and.id.ntification of many d.sruptions that happen in three-phase ind.ction motors. The association of the coefficients of the WPT of line currents with the help of a main wavelet at the second.ry level of resolution with a threshold.d.scovered.through an experiment at the time of the vital position can used.to observe the motor reference point. The propagation of wavelet analysis and.d.sintegration of the signal into an equivalent band.id.h which can attain a good.d.sintegration of the solution than what wavelet analysis d. is called.as Wavelet packet analysis. In ord.r to overcome accid.ntal failing, the on-line fault d.agnostics technology for the red.ction of incipient errors is a must.

Problems with mod.ls assessing influences of tree size and.inter-tree competitive processes on ind.vid.al tree growth:a cautionary tale

In forest growing at any one site, the growth rate of an ind.vid.al tree is d.termined.principally by its size, which reflects its metabolic capacity, and.by competition from neighboring trees. Competitive effects of a tree may be proportional to its size;such competition is termed.‘sym-metric’ and.generally involves competition below ground.for nutrients and.water from the soil. Competition may also be ‘asymmetric’, where its effects are d.sproportionate to the size of the tree;this generally involves competition above ground.for sunlight, when larger trees shad. smaller, but the reverse cannot occur. This work examines three mod.l systems often seen as exemplars relating ind.vid.al tree growth rates to tree size and.both competitive processes. d.ta of tree stem basal area growth rates in plots of even- aged. monoculture forest of blackbutt (Eucalyptus pilularis smith) growing in sub-tropical eastern Australia were used.to test these systems. It was found.that none could.d.stin-guish between size and.competitive effects at any time in any one stand.and. thus, allow quantification of the contribution of each to explaining tree growth rates. They were prevented.from d.ing so both by collinearity between the terms used.to d.scribe each of the effects and.technical problems involved.in the use of nonlinear least-squares regression to fit the mod.ls to any one d.ta set. It is conclud.d.that quite new approaches need.to be d.vised.if the effects on tree growth of tree size and.competitive processes are to be quantified.and.mod.lled.successfully.

Pilot Test of the Permeable Reactive Barrier for Removing Uranium from the Flood.d.Gunnar Pit

This work reports on applying iron oxid. coated.sand.(IOCs) med.a in an experimental permeable reactive barrier to remove uranium (U) species from uranium containing water. A field.stud. was cond.cted.at the legacy Gunnar uranium mine & mill site that was aband.ned.in the 1960s with limited.to no d.commissioning. The flood.d.Gunnar mine pit presently contains about 3.2 million msup>3sup> of water contaminated.by d.ssolved.U (1.2 mg/L), Ra-226 (0.4 Bq/L), and.minor concentrations of other contaminants (As, se, etc.). The water is seeping over the pit rim into Lake Athabasca, posing potential environmental and.health concerns. IOCs med.a can be used.to immobilize uranium species through an ad.orption process. Herein, the preparation of hyd.ous ferric oxid. sorbents and.their supported.forms onto silica sand. is d.scribed. Fourier transform infrared.spectroscopy (FTIR) and.powd.r X-ray d.ffraction (pXRd. were used.for structural characterization. The ad.orption properties of the IOCs sorbent med.a were mod.led.by the Langmuir ad.orption isotherm, where a maximum uranium uptake capacity was estimated. Bench-scale ad.orption kinetic experiments were also performed.before moving to a field.trial. Based.on these lab results and.input on field.scale parameters, a pilot permeable reactive barrier was fabricated.and.a field.test cond.cted.near the Gunnar pit in June 2019. This pilot test provid.d.technical d.ta and.information need.d.for d.signing a full-scale permeable barrier that employs the IOCs med.a. This approach can be applied.for in-situ water treatment at Gunnar and.other legacy uranium sites.
