In this article, the extension to three dimensions (3D) of the blending technique that has been widely used in two dimensions (2D) to calibrate ocean chlorophyll is presented. The results thus obtained revealed a very high degree of efficiency when predicting observed values of ocean chlorophyll. The mean squared difference between the predicted and observed values of ocean chlorophyll when 3D technique was used fell far below the tolerance level which was set to the difference between satellite and observed in-situ values. The resulting blended field did not only provide better predictions of the in situ observations in areas where bottle samples cannot be obtained but also provided a smooth variation of the distribution of ocean chlorophyll throughout the year. An added advantage is its computational efficiency since data that would have been treated at least four times would be treated only once. With the advent of these results, it is believed that the modelling of the ocean life cycle will become more realistic.

Marriage is one of the valued institutions in the traditional African society. Incidentally, it has its own challenges. When a young man or woman gets to a certain age and he/she is not married, society frowns at it. Thus, many couples enter into marriage relationships with a lot of excitements and expectations. However, losing one＇s spouse to death robs one of all these excitements and expectations and exposes the bereaved spouse to some dehumanizing challenges. These challenges are mostly experienced by women in the Eastern Region of Nigeria. These women are subjected to dehumanizing practices which are socially accepted in the region. This paper attempts a comparative study of some of the practices imposed on widows in Eastern Nigeria. A sample of 200 participants was purposively selected from two states in the Eastern Region of Nigeria. The study adopted the qualitative research method. Thus, the analysis was made using descriptive method. The study showed that these inhuman traditional practices in Eastern Nigeria are initiated and perpetrated by the kinsmen （Umunna and Umuada）. It also showed that the widowhood treatment is meted out on all widows, but the severity or less severity of these treatments are dependent on the socio-economic and other attributes of the widow. Finally, recommendations were made, which include the need to protect the fundamental rights of widows and their children.

AIM： To evaluate and compare the expression profiles of CXCL12 （SDF-1）, CCL19 （MIP-3β）, CCL20 （MIP-3a） and CCL21 （6Ckine, Exodus2） and their receptors on RNA and protein levels in hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） versus colorectal liver metastases （CRLM） and to elucidate their impact on the carcinogenesis and progression of malignant liver diseases. METHODS： Chemokine expression was analyzed by RT-PCR and ELISA in 11 cases of HCC specimens and in 23 cases of CRLM and corresponding adjacent nontumorous liver tissues, respectively. Expressions of their receptors CXCR4, CCR6 and CCR7 were analyzed by RT- PCR and Western blot analysis in the same cases of HCC and CRLM. RESULTS： Significant up-regulation for CCL20/CCR6 was detected in both cancer types. Moreover, CCL20 demonstrated significant overexpression in CRLM in relation to the HCC tissues. Being significantly up-regulated only in CRLM, CXCR4 displayed an aberrant expression pattern with respect to the HCC tissues. CONCLUSION： Correlation of CXCR4 expression with CRLM suggests CXCR4 as a potential predictive factor for CRLM. High level expression of CCL20 and its receptor CCR6 in HCC and CRLM with marked up-regulation of CCL20 in CRLM in relation to HCC tissues indicates involvement of the CCL20/CCR6 ligand-receptor pair in the carcinogenesis and progression of hepatic malignancies.

environmental issues have become an important aspect in the energy sector and also in governmental policies all over the world. Renewable energy plays a decisive role in a cleaner energy production with less environmental impacts. In this new world scenario, several countries create incentive programs aiming to increase the renewable energy share in their energy balance. Biogas is an interesting example of a smart and rational use of organic waste material. Nevertheless, international experience shows that its production relays mainly on government incentives. This paper investigates what the Brazilian government role is to introduce and promote the biogas industry in the country. We estimate the production of agricultural waste energy using biogas derived from cattle and swine waste and analyze the Brazilian legal and regulatory framework for renewable energy, focusing on biogas production, transport and sale. The results point to an unexplored potential of the use of cattle and swine waste for biogas production in Brazil. However, this potential can only become a reality if some legal and regulatory issues are solved. Brazilian government agenda has to include not only filling the legal and regulatory blanks but also creating incentives for the use of biogas.

Plants contain various factors that transiently interact with subunits or intermediates of the thylakoid multiprotein complexes, promoting their stable association and integration. Hence, assembly factors are essential for chloroplast development and the transition from heterotrophic to phototrophic growth. Snowy cotyledon 2 （SCO2） is a DNAJ-like protein involved in thylakoid membrane biogenesis and interacts with the light-harvesting chlorophyll-binding protein LHCBI. In Arabidopsis thaliana, SCO2 function was previ- ously reported to be restricted to cotyledons. Here we show that disruption of SC02 in Lotus japonicus results not only in paler cotyledons but also in variegated true leaves. Furthermore, smaller and pale- green true leaves can also be observed in A. thaliana sco2 （atsco2） mutants under short-day conditions. In both species, SCO2 is required for proper accumulation of PSlI-LHCll complexes. In contrast to other variegated mutants, inhibition of chloroplastic translation strongly affects L. japonicus sco2 mutant devel- opment and fails to suppress their variegated phenotype. Moreover, inactivation of the suppressor of variegation AtClpR1 in the atsco2 background results in an additive double-mutant phenotype with variegated true leaves. Taken together, our results indicate that SCO2 plays a distinct role in PSll assembly or repair and constitutes a novel factor involved in leaf variegation.

【目的】分析城市滨水公园场所依恋的特殊性,探讨影响城市滨水公园活力的因素,厘清城市滨水空间活力的作用机制。【方法】通过区分游赏者的场所依恋度,建立城市滨水公园社会连接分析框架。以南京滨江4个典型滨水公园为研究对象,通过问卷调查(n=392),采用t检验、方差分析和卡方检验分析变量间的相关性。【结果】(1)游赏者与自然连接的认知结构存在差异,高依恋度游赏者认同与水生态环境相关的自然体验,中、低依恋度游赏者认同休闲活动的环境体验;(2)游赏者的社交联结在认同感高的场所更易建立;(3)游赏者开展日常性/偶然性游憩活动的行为差异取决于是否将河流看成个体/社区的一部分。【结论】社会连接是分析城市滨水活力的具体指征,是城市滨水游赏者使用滨水环境的一种状态。提升城市滨水空间活力,需要充分考虑游赏者对河流景观的环境态度和游憩行为差异。将场所依恋分析方法应用到城市滨水社会连接研究中,可以增加对城市滨水活力机制的解释深度,为城市滨水活力研究带来新路径。

Effect of preoperative FOLFOX chemotherapy on CCL20/CCR6 expression in colorectal liver metastases

AIM： To evaluate the influence of preoperative FOLFOX chemotherapy on CCL20/CCR6 expression in liver metastases of stage IV colorectal cancer （CRC） patients.（/7 = 53） and in patients who did not receive FOLFOX chemotherapy prior to liver surgery （n = 29）. RESULTS： Of the 53 patients who received FOLFOX, time to liver surgery was n〈 1 mo in 14 patients, 〈 1 year in 22 patients and 〉 1 year in 17 patients, respectively. In addition, we investigated the proliferation rate of CRC cells in liver metastases in the different patient groups. Both CCL20 and CCR6 mRNA and protein ex- pression levels were significantly increased in patients who received preoperative FOLFOX chemotherapy ~〈 12 mo before liver surgery （P 〈 0.001） in comparison to patients who did not undergo FOLFOX treatment. Further, proliferation of CRLM cells as measured by Ki-67 was increased in patients who underwent FOLFOX treat- ment. CCL20 and CCR6 expression levels were significantly increased in CRLM patients who had undergone preoperative FOLFOX chemotherapy. CONCLUSION： This chemokine/receptor up-regulation could lead to increased proliferation/migration through an autocrine mechanism which might be used by surviving metastatic cells to escape cell death caused by FOLFOX.
