Atomic force microscopy(AFM)-based electrochemical etching of a highly oriented pyrolytic graphite(HOPG)surface is studied toward the single-atomic-layer lithography of intricate *** etching is performed in the water meniscus formed between the AFM tip apex and HOPG surface due to a capillary effect under controlled high relative humid-ity(~75%)at otherwise ambient *** conditions to etch nano-holes,nano-lines,and other intricate patterns are *** clectrochemical reactions of HOPG etching should not generatc debris duc to the conversion of graphite to gaseous CO and CO_(2)based on etching ***,debris is observed on the etched HOPG surface,and incom-plete gasification of carbon occurs during the etching process,resulting in the generation of solid ***,the applied potential is of critical importance for precise etching,and the precision is also significantly influenced by the AFM tip *** study shows that the AFM-based electrochemical etching has the potential to remove the material in a single-atomic-layer *** result is likely because the etching process is based on anodic dissolution,resulting in the material removal atom by atom.

Abstract Abstract Background: The management of childhood asthma necessitates a comprehensive approach including pharmacological treatment as well as education about self-evaluation and home management of the condition. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of adding an individualized written home-manage-ment plan in the control of moderate persistent asthma. Methods: Children with moderate persistent asthma were randomized to receive either an individualized written home-management plan or no plan, in addition to standard asthma therapy including education. They were followed up with serial measurement of outcome variables. Results: Children receiving an individualized written home-manage-ment plan had fewer acute asthma events, fewer lost school days, lower symptom score and less nocturnal awakening than those who did not receive a written plan. Conclusion: The addition of a written individualized home-management plan improves overall control in children with moderate persistent asthma.

Depth Distributions of Belowground Production, Biomass and Decomposition in Restored Tallgrass Prairie

Grasslands store large stocks of soil organic carbon(SOC) in the subsoil, but our knowledge of belowground processes becomes less robust with depth. Vertically explicit SOC models typically assume that the depth distribution of belowground production follows the depth distribution of belowground biomass, but this assumption has not been tested. In addition to the effects of soil temperature and moisture on decomposition, some vertically explicit SOC models implement an intrinsic decrease in belowground decomposition with depth, yet this effect has rarely been observed empirically. We simultaneously measured the depth distributions of belowground biomass, production, and litter decomposition to assess whether belowground biomass depth distributions were suitable predictors of belowground production and whether belowground decomposition decreased with soil profile depth. We found that live and total(live +dead) belowground biomass was distributed relatively more shallowly than total belowground production, and thus total belowground biomass was a biased predictor of the vertical distribution of belowground production. The depth distribution of live roots < 2 mm in diameter was found to be the best predictor of total belowground production depth distribution. Using an intact decay core method,we found that belowground litter decomposition decreased by 49% from 0–10 to 30–40 cm depth, and model-simulated effects of soil temperature and moisture accounted for only 9% of the observed decrease with depth. Vertically explicit SOC models can be improved with more accurate empirical belowground production depth distribution estimates, but depth-specific decomposition rates currently implemented in SOC models are necessary to explain observed decreases in belowground litter decay with depth.

This study aims to compare iso-rank vitrinite-rich and inertinite-rich coal samples to understand the impact of coal-forming processes on pyrolysis chemistry.A medium rank C bituminous coal was density-fractionated to create a vitrinite-rich and an inertinite-rich *** vitrinite-rich sample has 83 vol% total vitrinite (mineral-matter-free basis),whereas the inertinite-rich counterpart has 66 vol% total *** vitrinite-rich sample is dominated by collotelinite and ***,semifusinite,and inertodetrinite are the main macerals of the inertinite-rich *** chemistry was assessed using a pyrolysis gas chromatograph (py-GC) equipped with a thermal desorption unit coupled to a time of flight mass spectrometer (MS) (py-GC/MS) and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (13C CP-MAS SS NMR).The pyrolysis products of the coal samples are generally similar,comprised of low and high molecular weight alkanes,alkylbenzenes,alkylphenols,and alkyl-subtituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,although the vitrinite-rich sample is chemically more *** lack of diversity exhibited by the inertinite-rich sample upon pyrolysis may be interpreted to suggest that major components were heated in their geologic *** on the 13C CP-MAS SS NMR analysis,the inertinite-rich sample has a greater fraction of phenolics,reflected in the py-GC/MS results as substituted and unsubstituted *** greater abundance of phenolics for the inertinite-rich sample may suggest a fire-related origin for the dominant macerals of this *** C2-alkylbenzene isomers (p-xylene and o-xylene) were detected in the pyrolysis products for the vitrinite-rich and inertinite-rich samples,though more abundant in the *** presence of these in both samples likely reflects common source vegetation for the dominant vitrinite and inertinite rnacerals.

The fungal diseases in banana cause major yield losses for millions of farmers around the *** detection of these diseases helps the farmers to devise successful management *** characteristic leaf blade discoloration pattern at the earlier stages of infection could be used to understand the onset of each *** paper demonstrates a methodology for classification of three important foliar diseases in banana,using local texture *** disease affected regions are identified using image enhancement and color *** images are converted to transform domain using three image transforms(DWT,DTCWT and Ranklet transform).Feature vector is extracted from transform domain images using LBP and its variants(ELBP,MeanELBP and MedianELBP).These texture based features are applied to five popular image classifiers and comparative performance analysis is done using ten-fold cross validation *** results showed best classification performance for ELBP features extracted from DTCWT domain(accuracy 95.4%,precision 93.2%,sensitivity 93.0%,Fscore 93.0%and specificity 96.4%).Compared with traditional methods of feature extraction,this novel method of fusing DTCWT with ELBP features has attained high degree of accuracy in precisely detecting and classifying fungal diseases in banana at an early stage.

Burns are a significant cause of trauma,and over the years,the focus of patient care has shifted from just survival to facilitation of improved functional ***,burn treatment,especially in the case of extensive burn injuries,involves surgical excision of injured skin and reconstruction of the burn injury with the aid of skin *** skin substitutes do not contain all skin cell types and do not facilitate recapitulation of native skin ***-dimensional(3D)bioprinting for reconstruction of burn injuries involves layer-by-layer deposition of cells along with scaffolding materials over the injured *** bioprinting can be done either in situ or in *** these approaches are similar except for the site of printing and tissue *** are technological and regulatory challenges that need to be overcome for clinical translation of bioprinted skin for burn ***,the use of bioprinting for skin reconstruction following burns is promising;bioprinting will enable accurate placement of cell types and precise and reproducible fabrication of constructs to replace the injured or damaged ***,3D bioprinting is a very transformative technology,and its use for wound reconstruction will lead to a paradigm shift in patient *** this review,we aim to introduce bioprinting,the different stages involved,in vitro and in vivo skin bioprinting,and the various clinical and regulatory challenges in adoption of this technology.

Poly（ethylene oxide）, poly（vinyl pyrrolidone）（PEO/PVP）, lithium perchlorate salt（Li Cl O4） and different plasticizer based, gel polymer electrolytes were prepared by the solvent casting technique. XRD results show that the crystallinity decreases with the addition of different plasticizers. Consequently, there is an enhancement in the amorphousity of the samples responsible for the process of ion transport. FTIR spectroscopy is used to characterize the structure of the polymer and confirms the complexation of plasticizer with host polymer matrix. The ionic conductivity has been calculated using the bulk impedance obtained through impedance spectroscopy. Among the various plasticizers, the ethylene carbonate（EC） based complex exhibits a maximum ionic conductivity value of the order of2.7279 10 4S cm 1. Thermal stability of the prepared electrolyte films shows that they can be used in batteries at elevated temperatures. PEO（72%）/PVP（8%）/Li Cl O4（8%）/EC（12%） has the maximum ionic conductivity value which is supported by the lowest optical band gap and lowest intensity in photoluminescence spectroscopy near 400–450 nm. Two and three dimensional topographic images of the sample having a maximum ionic conductivity show the presence of micropores.

Spatial and temporal analysis of urban heat island effect over Tiruchirappalli city using geospatial techniques

Alterations made to the natural ground surface and the anthropogenic activity elevate the surface and air temperature in the urban areas compared with the surrounding rural areas,known as urban heat island *** remote sensors measure the radiation emitted by ground objects,which can be used to estimate the land surface temperature and are beneficial for studying urban heat island *** present study investigates the spatial and temporal variations in the effects of urban heat island over Tiruchirappalli city in India during the summer and winter *** study also identifies hot spots and cold spots within the study *** this study,a significant land surface temperature difference was observed between the urban and rural areas,predominantly at night,indicating the presence of urban heat island at *** diurnal land surface temperature fluctuations are also detected seasonally,with a relatively higher temperature intensity during the *** trend line analysis shows that the mean land surface temperature of the study area is increasing at a rate of 0.166 K/decade with p less than *** using the spatial autocorrelation method with the urban heat island index as the key parameter,hot spots with a 99 percent confidence level and a 95 percent confidence level were found within the urban area.A hot spot with 95 and 90 percent confidence level was identified outside the urban *** spike in temperature for a particular region in the rural area is due to industry and the associated built-up *** study also identified cold spots with a 90 percent confidence level within the rural ***,cold spots with a 95 and 99 percent confidence level were not identified within the study area.
