This current study aims at determining the profile and contents of degradation compounds produced during the interaction between the frying oils and tuna fish involved in the cooking of “Garba”, a street food largely consumed in Côte d’Ivoire. For this purpose, the peroxide index and the neoformed compounds, especially trans fatty acids, acrylamid, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were determined. This trial was carried out on 90 samples of frying oils and fried tuna fish collected from restaurant owners of “Garba” food in three locations in Abidjan. The samples were divided into three groups (G1, G2, and G3) according to the similarity of the practices adopted by the restorers. The results show that the peroxide values (14.95;15.01 and 11.97 meqO2/kg) of the oils respectively for G2, G3, and G1 are higher than the values fixed by the Codex Alimentarius. The trans fatty acid contents of the frying oils were 56.80%;61.01% and 55.18% respectively for G3, G2 and G1. The average acrylamide content of fried Tuna (69.43 μg/kg) is higher than the value recorded in the cooking oil (19.99 μg/kg). The average contents of the eleven HAPs determined in the oils are higher than those of the Tuna. The Benzo (a) pyrene contents of both matrices are lower than the EU standard 1881/2011 except for the G2 oil (2.66 μg/kg). Increased consumption of “Garba” may pose health risks to consumers as practices of frying Tuna generate compounds that are harmful to human health.

Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva is one of the most common malignancies in the elderly. Purpose: To describe the specific aspects of squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva and to determine the therapeutic modalities. Materials and Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional retrospective study carried out at the University Hospital Center of Bouake over a period of 9 years (From January 2015 to December 2023). We identified all malignant oculo-adnexal and orbital tumors whose histopathological diagnosis was confirmed;monitoring the sorting of squamous cell carcinomas of the conjunctiva among these cancers and studying the different parameters linked to them. Results: The average age of patients is 44.3 years. Male predominance with a sex ratio of 1.12. HIV was the majority ATCD with 64.7%. The main reason for consultation was exophthalmos (36.11%). The average consultation time was 10 months 13 days. Invasive differentiated conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma was predominant at 55.56%. Enucleation was the most performed surgical method. Conclusion: Squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva is a malignant ocular tumor of the elderly whose frequency increases in young adults infected with HIV-AIDS. Invasive differentiated forms are increasingly encountered, limiting treatment to mutilating surgery.

The mixed alkali effect was investigated in the glass system 0.75B2O3-0.25[xNa2O-（1 -x）K20] through thermodynamic properties. The calorimetric measurements were performed in HF solution calorimetry at 298 K. The mixing enthalpy values show non-linear behaviour upon substitution of one alkali ion by another. This thermodynamic non-ideality is caused by the slight variations of distance between metallic cations, the macromolecular structure being unchanged. It can be explained, at least qualitatively, using electrolyte theory based on the Coulombic interactions of charged species originally developed by Debye and Hückel.

土壤盐碱化是全世界面临的普遍问题,且这一现象正日益恶化。据报道,全世界95亿公顷的土地已经盐碱化。土壤盐碱化严重影响着中国的天然草地和农田生态系统。松嫩草地是中国土壤盐碱化最主要的区域之一,盐碱化面积约为370万公顷,占天然草地面积的70%。本论文基于盐碱化斑块上物种分布不同的现象,旨在研究松嫩草地土壤盐分梯度对植物物种分布及其特点的影响。本研究中,选择3个试验样地斑块,以斑块中心为圆心以辐射状分别在3个方向上根据物种及其丰富度为依据划分3或4个区段。样地A和B每个方向分为3个区段:底部(B)、中部(M)和顶部(T)。样地C分为4个区段,其中中部又分为2个区段(M1、M2)。底部以碱地肤为优势物种,其他区段为多物种并存,如:碱地肤、星星草、虎尾草、狗尾草、芦苇、羊草、碱蓬、碱蒿、鹅绒藤、全叶马兰、西伯利亚蓼、柴胡等。土壤盐分及物种组成对植物地上生物量、溶质含量及土壤有机质和全氮含量有显著影响。实验结果表明,所有样地中,从底部到顶部区段地上生物量逐渐增加,而盐化程度逐渐降低。另外,植物种有从邻居植物获利的现象,尤其在多种植物共存的中部和顶部,相比只有单一物种生存的底部,植物地上生物量更高。碱地肤相对生物量从底部到顶部逐渐降低,它主要分布在盐碱化最高的底部,与虎尾草和芦苇相比,它有较强的耐盐性。可溶性物质含量(叶绿素a、b,脯氨酸)随盐碱化程度降低而显著升高(P≤0.05)。盐碱、干旱胁迫下脯氨酸含量在渗透调节、保护亚细胞结构方面起着举足轻重的作用。在研究中,脯氨酸含量在高生产力、多物种共存的区段明显增加。这些结果证实了我们的假设:随着盐度降低和土壤资源可利用性升高,群落生物量增加;各土层的土壤全氮和有机质含量随盐度降低而升高,即顶部土壤全氮和有机质含量最高。

Profile of Workers Tested Positive for Sars-CoV-2 in Sangalkam Health District (Senegal)

Background: COVID-19 has shown the vulnerability of our healthcare staff in terms of exposure. Staff contamination is a reality to be explored and prevented. Objective: It was to describe the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary profiles of health staff infected with COVID-19 in the Health District of Sangalkam (Senegal). Materials and Methodologies: This was a retrospective study from April 1, 2020 to April 20, 2021. District health staff tested positive of Sars-CoV-2 were included. Results: Sixty-six professionals were sampled, of whom seventeen were positive (25.8%). The medical history found was diabetes type 2 (n = 1) and hypertension/obesity (n = 1). Only one victim had previously received an incomplete vaccination. The average age of the infected personnel was 38.4 years. Victims with an identified epidemiological link were more numerous (64.7%). Respiratory signs (cough, rhinorrhea) and fever predominated. Caregivers accounted for 76% of the victims, compared with 26% of the administrative staff. Most patients were followed at home (76.4%). One severe case was admitted to the intensive care unit. The recovery rate was 100%. The average length of absence was 13 days. Conclusion: Infection of the staff is of great concern. Regular and decontamination and systematic cleaning of consultation offices and hospital wards are necessary. In addition, vaccination, screening, strict compliance with barrier measures (wearing masks, hand washing, physical distancing).

Involvement of Healthcare Staff from First Contact Health Establishments in the Elimination of Human Rabies in the Health Districts of Ferkessedougou and Kong in Ivory Coast, 2020

Introduction: Rabies is endemic and constitutes a public health problem in Côte d’Ivoire. In the health districts of Kong and Ferkessedougou, exposure to rabies infection reported by the National Institute of Public Hygiene of Ferkessedougou averages 200 cases per year. However, in the involvement of health workers from First Contact Health Establishments (FCHE) of the 2 Districts, the management of exposed persons is unknown. This study aimed to determine the involvement of healthcare personnel in FCHE in the health districts of Ferkessedougou and Kong in the elimination of human rabies. Material and Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study with a descriptive aim which took place from October 21, 2020 to November 20, 2020. The data were collected using a questionnaire and then analyzed with the software EXCEL and Epi Info 3.5.3. Principle Results: It emerged from this study that the average age of the participants was 36.8 years with an average professional seniority of 5.07 years. The majority (73.90%) of healthcare staff have not received training on rabies. However, plenty of healthcare personnel respectively experienced the transmission of the rabies virus from animals to humans (98.60%), with dogs (97.10%) as the main animal vector of rabies to man, the bite (100%) as the way of contamination of rabies, the immediate washing with water and soap (66.70%), the administration of the anti-rabies vaccine (75.4%), the National Institute of Public Hygiene as a reference structure (63.8%). At the level of practices after exposure to rabies infection, the majority (65.2%) of the healthcare staff consulted the patients, of whom 84.4% and 95.6% of these consultants respectively carried out communication for social change and behavior and referred patients to the National Institute of Public Hygiene (p Conclusion: Some health workers did not have the necessary knowledge to care for people exposed to rabies infection. Secondary Stress Induced Central Serous Chorioretinopathy in Bamako: Report of Two Cases

Introduction: Idiopathic central serous chorioretinopathy (ICSC) is characterized by the buildup of fluid leading to circumscribed elevation of the retina within the posterior pole. This condition affects young people between the ages of 20 - 50 years. The disease is seen predominantly in men as compared to women. We report the cases of two (02) patients received in consultation at IOTA-Teaching Hospital between July 2019 and February 2020. Case Presentation: We report two cases of Idiopathic stress central serous chorioretinopathy. The first case is a 37-year-old man that we received in consultation for visual acuity decrease from a sudden installation for 1 hour. The clinical and paraclinical arguments permitted us to retain the diagnosis of Idiopathic stress central serous chorioretinopathy. The patient benefited from laser treatment and the clinical evolution was good. The second case is a 42-year-old man, who consulted for a sudden reduction of visual acuity that had been evolving for 3 weeks. The clinical and paraclinical contexts were in favour of the diagnosis of Idiopathic stress central serous chorioretinopathy. The patient was treated with spironolactone. The clinical evolution was favourable. Conclusion: Our study confirms the existence of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) in Black African patients. Studies show the connection between CSC and stress.

Results of Combined Chemotherapy and External Beam Radiotherapy for Unilateral Intra-Orbital Retinoblastoma—A Multi-Institutional Study from Mali

Retinoblastoma (RB) treatment aims at saving the life and preserving useful vision. In most low-income countries, because of delays in diagnosis, advanced disease presentation is quite common. This prospective study aimed at evaluating the treatment results of orbital RB with regards to overall survival rate of the patients treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The study was performed from 01 November 2011 to 31 December 2015 in the paediatric oncology unit of Gabriel Touré Teaching Hospital, Bamako, Mali and The Institute of Tropical Ophthalmology of Africa (IOTA), Bamako, Mali. All intra-orbital non-metastatic RB cases not previously treated by chemotherapy or radiotherapy were included in this study. Fourteen patients were included into the study. Median age was 2 years, and sex ratio 2.5 (M = 10;F = 4). Right eye (n = 12, 85.7%) was more often affected than left eye (n = 2;14.3%). Chemotherapy toxicities were mainly haematological including grade 3 anemia (n = 2;7%) and grade 4 neutropenia (n = 3;11%). Twelve patients (86%) were enucleated after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Two patients (14%) abandoned treatment before enucleation. The IRSS pathology staging was: stage IIIa in 6 patients (50%), and stage II in six patients (50%). Six children (43%) received orbital radiotherapy at total dose of 45 Gy;Six children (43%) achieved complete remission;Overall survival rate was 48% at 4 years (95% CI: 22.5% - 74.4%). In conclusion, the therapeutic strategy based on neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by enucleation, adjuvant chemotherapy and external beam radiotherapy, was beneficial in patients with stage III disease, achieving an event-free survival rate of 48%.

Epidemiological and Clinical Profile of Breast Cancer at Bamako Radiotherapy Center

Breast cancer is a major public health problem because of its incidence and mortality. Purpose: To establish the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of breast cancer seen at the radiotherapy center at the Mali Hospital of Bamako. Patients and methods: It was a retrospective, descriptive study of data from patients seen for breast cancer at the Center of Radiotherapy of Mali Hospital between April 2014 and December 2016. The parameters studied were: age, sex, family history of breast cancer, menopausal status, parity, breast tumor location, histological type, histological grade, cancer classification stage. Results: 134 cases of breast cancer were collected, with a frequency of 15%. The sex ratio (H/F) of 0.007. The patient’s mean age was 47 ± 11 years old. The most represented age groups were 33 - 47 years old with 45.5% and 48 - 62 years old with 39%. Three percent (3%) of patients had a family history of breast cancer. Fifty (50%) of the patients were menopausal. The main clinical signs found were : mammary nodules (98%), mastodynia (65%), nodes (67%). Invasive ductal carcinomas were found in 94% of patients, followed by infiltrating lobular carcinomas with 3.7% and metaplastic carcinomas with 1.7%. SBR Grades II and III were mostly found with 37% and 23%. The average tumor size was 87 mm ± 43. Stage III was predominantly represented with 72%, followed by Stage II with 24% and Stages I and IV with 2% each. Conclusion: Breast cancer is common and reaches both before and after 50 years;the diagnosis is usually late;hence it is the importance of raising awareness and screening before the age of 50 and popularizing some complementary tests to better understand the prognosis of this disease and promote more targeted and conservative treatments that will improve survival.

This is a prospective and descriptive study carried out at the gynecology and obstetrics department of the reference health center of Fana from 01 May 2019 to 30 November or 7 months. The main objective was to study the role of blood transfusion in the management of obstetric emergencies. During the study period we recorded 434 cases of obstetric emergencies of which 116 cases required an emergency blood transfusion or 26.73%. The most frequently found indications for blood transfusion are hemorrhages of the immediate postpartum 46.6% followed by severe malaria on pregnancy 27.6%. Blood remains the most prescribed and available Labile blood product in the department. Maternal prognosis was improved in 92.2%.
