Two-step exhumation of Caucasian intraplate rifts:A proxy of sequential plate-margin collisional orogenies

Intraplate structural deformation is diagnostic of tectonic stress regime changes linked to plate interactions and can result from superposed tectonic events whose single contributions are hardly *** this paper,we present a set of integrated thermochronologic inverse models along a 140 km-long transect across the central Greater Caucasus and the adjacent Adjara-Trialeti fold-and-thrust belt of Georgia,two intraplate orogens produced by structural inversion of parallel continental rift zones located on the Eurasian *** dataset allows to distinguish discrete and superposed deformation episodes and quantify their respective contributions to orogenic *** integration of(U-Th)/He analysis on apatite and zircon,fission-track analysis on apatite,and peak-temperature determinations(clay mineralogy,organic matter petrography,Raman spectroscopy)shows that structural inversion was punctuated by two incremental steps starting respectively in the latest Cretaceous and the *** Cretaceous partial inversion of the Greater Caucasus is documented here for the first time and placed in a geographically wider context of coeval *** two episodes of intraplate structural inversion,exhumation,and sediment generation are chronologically and physically correlated with docking of(i)the Anatolide-Tauride-Armenian terrane(Late Cretaceous-Paleocene)and(ii)Arabia(Miocene hard collision)against the southern Eurasian plate *** deformation in the Caucasian domain was triggered by far-field propagation of plate-margin collisional stress which focused preferentially along rheologically weak rift zones.

Apatite fission-track analysis and thermochronologic statistical modeling of Precambrian-Oligocenc plutonic and metamorphic rocks from the Lesser Caucasus resolve two discrete cooling *** occurred during incremental crustal shortening due to obduction and continental accretion along the margins of the northern branch of the Neotethys.(1)The thermochronometric record of a Late Cretaceous(Turonian-Maastrichtian)cooling/exhumation event,coeval to widespread ophiolite obduction,is still present only in a relatively small area of the upper plate of the Amasia-Sevan-Akera(ASA)suture zone,*** suture marking the final closure of the northern Neotethys during the *** area has not been affected by significant later exhumation.(2)Rapid cooling/exhumation occurred in the Early-Middle Miocene in both the lower and upper plates of the ASA suture zone,obscuring previous thermochronologic signatures over most of the study *** contractional reactivation of the ASA suture zone occurred contemporaneously with the main phase of shortening and exhumation along the Bitlis suture zone marking the closure of the southern branch of the Neotethys and the ensuing ArabiaEurasia *** collisional stress from the Bitlis suture zone was transmitted northward across the Anatolian hinterland,which was left relatively undeformed,and focused along preexisting structural discontinuities such as the eastern Pontides and the ASA suture zone.

The Admiralty Mountains region forms the northern termination of the northern Victoria Land,*** quantitative data are available to reconstruct the Cenozoic morpho-tectonic evolution of this sector of the Antarctic plate,where the Admiralty Mountains region forms the northern termination of the western shoulder of the Mesozoic-Cenozoic West Antarctica Rift *** this study we combine new low-temperature thermochronological data(apatite fission-track and(U-Th-Sm)/He analyses)with structural and topography *** regional pattern of the fission-track ages shows a general tendency to older ages(80-60 Ma)associated with shortened mean track-lengths in the interior,and younger fission-track ages clustering at 38-26 Ma with long mean track-lengths in the coastal *** from other regions of Victoria Land,the younger ages are found as far as 50-70 km *** grain apatite(U-Th-Sm)/He ages cluster at 50-30 Ma with younger ages in the coastal *** analysis reveals that the Admiralty Mountains has high local relief,with an area close to the coast,180 km long and 70 km large,having the highest local relief of>2500 *** coincides with the location of the youngest fission-track *** shape of the area with highest local relief matches the shape of a recently detected low velocity zone beneath the northern TAM,indicating that high topography of the Admiralty Mountains region is likely sustained by a mantle thermal *** used the obtained constraints on the amount of removed crustal section to reconstruct back-eroded profiles and calculate the erosional load in order to test flexural uplift *** found that our back-eroded profiles are better reproduced by a constant elastic thickness of intermediate values(Te=20-30 km).This suggests that,beneath the Admiralty Mountains,the elastic properties of the lithosphere are different with respect to other TAM sectors,likely due to a stationary Cenozoic upper mantle thermal an

Cenozoic Tectonic Uplift History of Western Qinling: Evidence from Sedimentary and Fission-Track Data

The western Qinling （秦岭） orogenic belt is one of the outermost ranges in the northeas- tern Tibetan Plateau. Its tectonic uplift history is therefore essential to insight on the evolution history of the plateau. However, the timing of deformation and uplift history is still poorly known. Fortunately, its Cenozoic orogenic history is recorded in an excellent synorogenic sedimentary sequence exposed in the Tianshui （天水）Ba- sin, the northeastern foot of western Qinling. Ac- cording to sedimentary-tectonic analysis of the Yaodian （尧店） and Lamashan （喇嘛山） sections based on the previous magnetostratigraphy stu- dies, we speculated that two stages （occurred at 9.2-7.4 and -3.6 Ma） of variation in depositional facies were attributed to the uplift and deforma- tion of the western Qinling, and the modern structure geomorphic frame of the northeastern Tibet formed after 2.6 Ma. Furthermore, four stages of active processes along the western Qinling occurred at 49--41, 34-27, 25-19 and -13 Ma, are deciphered from an integrated detrital apatite fission-track data of the Ganquan （甘泉）, Yaodian main sections and seven small ones. The former two are represents the exhumation episodes triggered by tectonism and the others attributed to the volcanic signals.

三叠纪末期大型鄂尔多斯盆地遭受了中生代成盆以来首次较大规模的抬升剥蚀,显著改造了中晚三叠世延长期盆地面貌,并控制了侏罗纪早期沉积格局和油藏分布,对盆地演化及矿产资源分布产生了重要影响。本文利用地质及大量钻井资料揭示了该期构造事件对盆地的剥蚀改造特征,盆地及周邻地区磷灰石裂变径迹年代学记录并约束了此次构造抬升的时限与过程;综合周邻区域构造研究成果,探讨了其发育的动力学背景。结果表明,鄂尔多斯盆地三叠纪末期的剥蚀具西南强、东北弱的特点,西南部大范围内延长组地层残缺不全,剥蚀量最大可达1000余米;前侏罗纪沉积古地貌总体呈西南高、北东低的特点;其抬升时间始于205~190Ma,西南部稍早于盆地腹部,抬升速率大于1℃/Myr,可持续至中侏罗世(约160Ma)。该期抬升剥蚀事件范围可涉及至盆地西南缘更广阔的区域,与同期秦岭造山带内出现的快速抬升冷却事件具有较好的时空耦合关系,是对秦岭造山带区域构造环境转变的响应和纪录。该研究丰富和发展了三叠纪末期构造事件在华北克拉通的影响,对该区油气、煤炭资源的进一步勘探和评价提供了新的思路,具有一定的现实意义。

祁连山东北部为青藏高原隆升和东扩的前锋带,新生代以来经历了快速隆升和强烈剥露改造过程,致使前新生代地层面目全非,中生代陆内构造演化事件研究仍较薄弱,缺乏年代学的约束.为揭示和分析祁连山东部中生代构造隆升时限与过程,进而探讨秦祁造山带中生代陆内构造演化特点及区域动力学环境.主要采用物源分析、碎屑沉积物及基岩磷灰石裂变径迹定年,并结合裂变径迹热史反演模拟技术开展研究.研究表明,研究区侏罗系龙凤山组为近源的断陷盆地沉积,物源主要来自其周邻前中生代地层;其碎屑磷灰石裂变径迹未发生重置,年龄、径迹长度特征表明其源区在晚三叠世(±215Ma)出现了快速冷却事件,同时东北部基岩裂变径迹热史模拟结果亦显示其较好地记录了该期事件,这与前人利用40 Ar-39 Ar年代学所揭示的西秦岭地区中晚三叠世快速抬升事件具时空统一性.分析表明研究区晚三叠世-早侏罗世发生了快速抬升事件,并认为该构造隆升事件是对中晚三叠世勉略洋闭合、秦岭最终碰撞造山过程的响应.
