A state-of-the-art review of automated extraction of rock mass discontinuity characteristics using three-dimensional surface models

In the last two decades,significant research has been conducted in the field of automated extraction of rock mass discontinuity characteristics from three-dimensional(3D)*** provides several methodologies for acquiring discontinuity measurements from 3D models,such as point clouds generated using laser scanning or ***,even with numerous automated and semiautomated methods presented in the literature,there is not one single method that can automatically characterize discontinuities accurately in a minimum of *** this paper,we critically review all the existing methods proposed in the literature for the extraction of discontinuity characteristics such as joint sets and orientations,persistence,joint spacing,roughness and block size using point clouds,digital elevation maps,or *** a result of this review,we identify the strengths and drawbacks of each method used for extracting those *** found that the approaches based on voxels and region growing are superior in extracting joint planes from 3D point *** tensor voting with trace growth algorithm is a robust method for measuring joint trace length from 3D *** is estimated by calculating the perpendicular distance between joint *** independent roughness indices are presented to quantify roughness from 3D surface models,but there is a need to incorporate these indices into automated *** is a lack of efficient algorithms for direct computation of block size from 3D rock mass surface models.

Studies on product distribution of alkali promoted iron catalyst in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

The dependencies of hydrocarbon product distributions of alkali promoted iron catalyst in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis have been studied. The concept of two superimposed Anderson-Schulz-Flory distributions has been applied for the representation of the effects of Mg, La and Ca promoters on product distributions. The FTS performance of the catalysts was tested in a fixed bed reactor under the conditions 563 K, 1.7 MPa, H2/CO = 1 and space velocities 4.86 and 13.28 nl·h^-1·gFe^-1. The results indicate that appropriate amounts of these promoters enhance the break in ASF distributions in the order Ca 〉 Mg 〉 La because of the rising of the catalyst surface basicity.

Production of single-walled carbon nanotubes from methane over Co-Mo/MgO nanocatalyst:A comparative study of fixed and fluidized bed reactors

In this study,the performances of fixed and fluidized bed reactors in the production of single-walled carbon nanotubes（SWNTs）have been *** both reactors,single-walled carbon nanotubes were grown by catalytic chemical vapor decomposition（CCVD）of methane over Co-Mo/MgO nanocatalyst under two different operating *** synthesized samples were characterized by TEM,TGA and Raman *** is found that the performance of a fluidized bed in the synthesis of carbon nanotubes is much better than that of a fixed *** quality of carbon nanotubes obtained from the fluidized bed was significantly higher than that from the fixed bed and the former one with the ID/IG ratio of 0.11 while the latter one with the ID/IG ratio of ***,the yield of SWNTs in the fluidized bed was 92 wt%,while it was 78 wt%in the fixed *** advantages of fluidized bed reactors for the synthesis of carbon nanotubes can be attributed to more available space for the growth of carbon nanotubes and more uniform temperature and concentration profiles.

We reported a quantum mechanical study of the complexes formed between Sm3＋ and the bisphosphonate ligand pamidronate in aqueous solution. According to available experimental p K a values pamidronate was expected to exist in aqueous solution, at physiologically relevant p H, in its di- and tri-protonated forms（denoted by H3 L and H2L）. The most stable structures of the ligands and Sm3＋ complexes were found by using a detailed analysis of the conformational space with semiempirical and DFT methods. The results showed that both H2 L and H3 L bisphosphonates acted as a tridentate ligands in their complexes with Sm3＋. The addition of explicit water molecules to the coordination sphere of the metal not only gave different coordination numbers for H2 L and H3 L complexes（CN=9 and 10）, but also provided different trends in stabilization energies. The results highlighted the importance of considering not only an explicit first coordination shell, but also a second hydration shell, for an adequate description of this type of complexes in aqueous solution.

Nanoporous carbons as promising novel methane adsorbents for natural gas technology

Nanoporous carbons were synthesized using furfuryl alcohol and sucrose as precursors and MCM-41 and mordenite as nanoporous *** produced nanoporous carbons were used as adsorbent for methane *** average pore diameter of the samples varied from 3.9 nm to 5.9 nm and the BET surface area varied from 320m2/g to 824m2/*** volumetric adsorption experiments revealed that MCM-41 and sucrose had better performance compared with mordenite and furfuryl alcohol,***,the effect of precursor to template ratio on the structure of nanoporous carbons and their adsorption capacities was *** nanoporous carbon produced from MCM-41 mesoporous molecular sieve partially filled by sucrose shows the best methane adsorption capacity among the tested samples.

Magnetic and optical properties of zinc chromite nanostructures prepared by microwave method

The nanostructures of zinc chromite（Zn Cr2O4） were fabricated by the microwave method. It was shown that the well-crystallized spinel structure is formed after annealing at 700 °C. The influence of reaction time and irradiation power of oven on the size and shape of the as-prepared Zn Cr2O4 samples was studied. The synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction（XRD）, scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, energy dispersive X-ray（EDX）, transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy（DRS）, photoluminescence（PL） spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared（FTIR） spectra and vibrating sample magnetometry（VSM）, respectively. The optical band gap calculated using DRS was found to be 3.50 e V for Zn Cr2O4 nanostructures. Photoluminescence measurements also confirmed this result.

Different Irrigation Methods and Their Comparisons Based on the Parametric Evaluation Method in Khosouyeh Dam Subbasin, Iran

Today,the world’s population is rising dramatically,and in line with this increase in the population of food and agricultural products,there must be an increasing in the number of problems associated with this process of agricultural *** it is necessary to use the maximum potential of this lands that product maximum yield without any *** reach this objective,land suitability evaluation is the most important way that can reach human to this *** main objective of this research was to compare different irrigation methods based on a parametric evaluation system in an area of 221402 ha in the Khosouyeh Subbasin of the Fars province,in the south of *** preparing land unit map,37 points were selected for *** properties were evaluated and *** maps for drop and gravity irrigation were generated using GIS *** results revealed land suitability of 98.42%of the case study was classified as permanently not suitable(N2)and 1.52%currently not suitable(N1)for gravity *** the other hand,land suitability of 77.73%of the case study was classified as permanently not suitability(N2),6.05%currently not suitable(N1),12.43%marginally suitable(S3)and 3.79%moderately suitable(S2)for drop *** limiting factors for both kinds of drop and gravity irrigation are soil depth and slope of land.

Noise pollution is one of the most significant harmful physical factors in the industrial and occupational *** to the high costs of exposure to excessive noise;continuous sound evaluation,propose and implement noise control plans in occupational environments is ***,the present study aimed to review environmental sound measurements,drawing of noise maps,and prioritizing the engineering noise control methods using the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP).This study was a descriptive-analytical study that aimed to assess occupational noises and present a control plan in the City Gas Stations(CGSs)of Kerman,Iran in *** present study was done in two *** the first phase,six CGSs were investigated to measure and evaluate the *** addition,the noise map of a CGS was drawn using the Surfer ***,the AHP was used in the second phase of the research to prioritize the control *** this phase,four criteria and ten alternatives were *** to first phase results,the sound pressure level(SPL)of the stations varied from 76 to 98 ***,the majority of the studied stations had a sound level higher than 85 dBA(danger zone).The second phase of the study showed that out of the four evaluated criteria,the executability criterion had the highest impact and the cost criterion had the lowest impact on the selection of control measures with a weight of 0.587 and 0.052,*** on the results of prioritization of the alternatives,using a silenced regulator(weight of 0.223)and increasing the thickness of the tube(weight of 0.023)had the highest and lowest priorities among the alternatives,*** use of engineering noise control methods such as using silenced regulators was the best way to control the noises of ***;it is noteworthy that AHP is a practical method for prioritizing alternatives to achieve the most accurate *** results of AHP can be of great help to health and s

Investigating the Role of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plants(BNPPs)in Line with Achieving the Perspective of Sustainable Energy Development in Iran

In line with achieving the outlook of Sustainable Energy Development(SED),Iran intends to increase the share of clean power to at least 8%of the country’s capacity by the end of *** research aims to investigate the role and share of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plants(BNPP-1,2,3)in achieving the SED perspective of Iran,which has never been examined so *** this connection,the comparative analyses of various power plants(PPs)of Iran including nuclear,fossil fuel,biomass,wind,solar thermal,photovoltaic,geothermal,and hydro PPs are carried out and *** main indicators of SED such as Levelized Cost of Electricity(LCOE)metric,grid-level system cost,investment cost,external cost,average CO_(2) equivalent emission,ecosystem impact,required land area,required water,preservation of natural resources,human health,created jobs,international cooperation,social acceptance and Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR),and energy-water hub are thoroughly *** statistical data used in the present study are extracted based on the authors’experiences gained during the construction,operation and maintenance(O&M)of BNPP-1,the energy-environment balance sheets of Iran,as well as the design documents of ***,the gathered data are evaluated using MatLab programing language and analyzed in terms of comparative *** evaluations of BNPP-1 performance within the framework of SED indicate that BNPP-1 has little effect on ecosystems and is among the lowest greenhouse gases emitters compared to other Iran’s PPs so that it annually prevent the release of 0.7 million tonnes of carbon,SO_(x),and NO_(x) compared to a gas-fired ***,the cost analysis shows that the external cost of BNPP-1 is nearly zero and the grid-level cost is approximately 3 USD/(MW·h)which is much lower than that for renewable *** per the LCOE metric and the cost of fuel supply,BNPP-1 is cost-competitive with other Iran’s *** nuclear fuel cost of BNPP-1 is nearly 49 million USD per

Efcient Iterative Solutions to General Coupled Matrix Equations

Linear matrix equations are encountered in many systems and control *** this paper,we consider the general coupled matrix equations（including the generalized coupled Sylvester matrix equations as a special case）l t=1EstYtFst = Gs,s = 1,2,···,l over the generalized reflexive matrix group（Y1,Y2,···,Yl）.We derive an efcient gradient-iterative（GI） algorithm for fnding the generalized reflexive solution group of the general coupled matrix *** analysis indicates that the algorithm always converges to the generalized reflexive solution group for any initial generalized reflexive matrix group（Y1（1）,Y2（1）,···,Yl（1））.Finally,numerical results are presented to test and illustrate the performance of the algorithm in terms of convergence,accuracy as well as the efciency.
