A tri-level programming model for attack-resilient control of power grids

The significance of modern power grids is acknowledged every time there is a major threat. This paper proposes the novel approaches to aid power system planner to improve power grid resilience by making appropriate hardening strategies against man-made attack or natural hazards. The vulnerability indices are introduced, which return the most vulnerable component in the system based on a tri-level defender-attacker-operator(DAO) interdiction problem which solves iteratively. The output of DAO is the set of hardening strategies that optimally allocated along the network to mitigate the impact of the worst-case damages. By repeating DAO problem based on the proposed algorithm, the various crafted attack is imposed on the system, and the defender's behavior demonstrates how an element is vulnerable to threats. The WSCC 9-bus, IEEE 24-bus, and IEEE 118-bus systems are employed to evaluate the model *** counter-intuitive results are proven by the proposed robust hardening strategy, which shows how the hardening strategy should be allocated to improve power network resilience against threats.

Multi-layer spectral clustering approach to intentional islanding in bulk power systems

Intentional controlled islanding(ICI)is a final resort for preventing a cascading failure and catastrophic power system *** paper proposes a controlled islanding algorithm that uses spectral clustering over multilayer graphs to find a suitable islanding *** multi-criteria objective function used in this controlled islanding algorithm involves the correlation coefficients between bus frequency components and minimum active and reactive power flow *** to the previous studies,the algorithm is applied in two *** the first stage,groups of coherent buses are identified with the help of modularity clustering using correlation coefficients between bus frequency *** the second stage,the ICI solution satisfying bus coherency with minimum active and reactive power flow disruptions is determined by grouping all nodes using spectral clustering on the multi-layer *** studies on the IEEE 39-bus test system demonstrate the effectiveness of the method in determining an islanding solution in real time while addressing the generator coherency problem.

Evaluation of some engineering properties of cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.)seeds and kernels based on image processing

In this study,a method based on digital image processing was employed to investigate effect of the moisture content on gravimetrical and frictional properties of the cucumber seeds and *** research indicated that the application of visual machines and the image processing could be a rapid method that enables accurate measurement of the dimensional parameters of two varieties of this product *** length,width,and thickness of the seeds of Rashid variety ranged from 6.40 to 9.07,2.91 to 4.21 and 0.65 to1.50 mm,respectively;the corresponding value of Negin variety ranged from 6.89 to 9.07,2.49 to 4.21,and 0.69 to 1.68 mm,*** and shell ratios of the Rashid variety were found to be 69.811 and 30.189%,respectively;the corresponding values of the Negin variety were found to be 72.727 and 27.273%,*** the bulk densities of the two varieties of cucumber seeds and kernels that decreased with the moisture content,true density and porosity of the two varieties of cucumber seeds and kernels *** the moisture content increased from 5.04 to 21.12%(d.b),the angle of the static friction of the seeds of Negin variety increased from 30.39°to 37.18°,28.83° to 34.991,24.37°to 30.04°,and 15.77°to 19.57°for wood,rubber,iron,and galvanized,respectively,the corresponding value of the Negin variety increased from 21.12to 27.16°,24.43°to 31.41°,19.90°to 25.59°and 14.09°to 18.12°as the moisture content increased from 5.02 to 21.02%(d.b).

A Fault Tolerance Algorithm for Resource Discovery in Semantic Grid Computing Using Task Agents

One of the interesting topics in grid computing systems is resources discovery. After the failure of a resource in a chain of resources made for a specific task in grid environment, discovering and finding a new resource that reconstructs the chain is an important topic. In this study, with defining new agent that is called task agent, and by proposing an algorithm, we will increase the fault tolerance against probable failure of a resource in the resource chain.

Sonographic evaluation of mullerian anomalies in women with polycystic ovaries

Background: Mullerian anomalies are relatively common and contributing to the problems of infertility and poor pregnancy outcomes. But their molecular pathophysiology has been insufficiently studied. On the other hand, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is found in nearly 80% of women with hyperandrogenism and also in 8%-25% of normal ones. It seems that anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) which inhibits the formation of the mullerian ducts in male increases in women with PCOS. Therefore, the aim of the study is whether PCOS is associated with mullerian anomalies. Methods: In this case-control study, 83 women with PCOS and 83 cases without PCOS were evaluated with transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) for the diagnosis of mullerian anomalies. The results of each group were compared with other groups. Results: In the PCOS patients, TVS revealed mullerian anomalies in the uterine cavity in 29 out of 83 women. Among 29 patients who had lesions in their uterine cavity, 27 cases had septate uterus and two had arcuate uterus. In the healthy women, TVS revealed 6 septate uterus and 4 arcuate uterus abnormality cases of the uterine cavity. There were significant correlation between polycystic ovary syndrome of the patients and the mullerian anomalies lesions (i.e. septate and arcuate uterus) which were seen in them. Conclusion: Mullerian anomalies were more common in women with PCOS and the most common anomaly was uterine septum. In fact, the present results revealed that it seemed a cause-effect relationship between the mullerian anomalies and PCO syndrome may in fact exist.
