Connective tissue growth factor differentially binds to members of the cystine knot superfamily and potentiates platelet-derived growth factor-B signaling in rabbit corneal fibroblast cells

AIm:To study the binding of connective tissue growth factor(CTGF) to cystine knot-containing ligands and how this impacts platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF)-B signaling. mETHODS:The binding strengths of CTGF to cystine knot-containing growth factors including vascular en-dothelial growth factor(VEGF)-A,PDGF-B,bone morphogenetic protein(BmP)-4,and transforming growth factor(TGF)-β1 were compared using the LexA-based yeast two-hybrid system. EYG48 reporter strain that carried a wild-type LEU2 gene under the control of Lex A operators and a lac Z reporter plasmid(p80plac Z) containing eight high affinity Lex A binding sites were used in the yeast two-hybrid analysis. Interactions between CTGF and the tested growth factors were evaluated based on growth of transformed yeast cells on selective media and colorimetric detection in a liquid β-galactosidase activity assay. Dissociation constants of CTGF to VEGF-A isoform 165 or PDGF-BB homo-dimer were measured in surface plasma resonance(SPR) analysis. CTGF regulation in PDGF-B presentation to the PDGF receptor β(PDGFRβ) was also quantitatively assessed by the SPR analysis. Combinational effects of CTGF protein and PDGF-BB on activation of PDGFRβ and downstream signaling molecules ERK1/2 and AKT were assessed in rabbit corneal fibroblast cells by Western analysis. RESULTS:In the LexA-based yeast two-hybrid system,cystine knot motifs of tested growth factors were fused to the activation domain of the transcriptional factor GAL4 while CTGF was fused to the DNA binding domain of the bacterial repressor protein Lex A. Yeast cotransformants containing corresponding fusion proteins for CTGF and all four tested cystine knot motifs survived on selective medium containing galactose and raffinose but lacking histidine,tryptophan,and uracil. Cyber-Physical-Social System Between a Humanoid Robot and a Virtual Human Through a Shared Platform for Adaptive Agent Ecology

Two artificial agents(a humanoid robot and a virtual human) are enriched with various similar intelligence,autonomy, functionalities and interaction modalities. The agents are integrated in the form of a cyber-physical-social system(CPSS) through a shared communication platform to create a social ecology. In the ecology, the agents collaborate(assist each other) to perform a real-world task(search for a hidden object)for the benefits of humans. A robot-virtual human bilateral trust model is derived and a real-time trust measurement method is developed. The role of taking initiative in the collaboration is switched between the agents following a finite state machine model triggered by bilateral trust, which results in a mixedinitiative collaboration. A scheme is developed to evaluate the performance of the agents in the ecology through the *** results show that the robot and the virtual human perform satisfactorily in the collaboration through the CPSS. The results thus prove the effectiveness of the real-world ecology between artificial agents of heterogeneous realities through a shared platform based on trust-triggered mixed-initiatives. The results can help develop adaptive social ecology comprising intelligent agents of heterogeneous realities to assist humans in various tasks through collaboration between the agents in the form of a CPSS.

We introduce a new integral scheme namely improved Kudryashov method for solving any nonlinear fractional differential ***,we apply the approach to the nonlinear space-time fractional model leading the wave to spread in electrical transmission lines(s-tfETL),the time fractional complex Schrödinger(tfcS),and the space-time m-fractional Schrödinger-Hirota(s-tm-fSH)models to verify the effectiveness of the proposed *** implementing of the introduced new technique based on the models provides us with periodic envelope,exponentially changeable soliton envelope,rational rogue wave,periodic rogue wave,combo periodic-soliton,and combo rational-soliton solutions,which are much interesting phenomena in nonlinear *** the results disclose that the proposed technique is very effective and straight-forward,and such solutions of the models are much more fruitful than those from the generalized Kudryashov and the modified Kudryashov methods.

Entropy Quantization of Schwarzschild Black Hole

The surface gravity of Schwarzschild black hole can be quantized from the test particle moving around different energy states analog to the Bohr's atomic model. We have quantized the Hawking temperature and entropy of Schwarzschild black hole from quantization of surface gravity. We also have shown that the change of entropy reduces to zero when the boundary shrinks to very small size.

Analytical Determination of Collisionless Sheath Properties for Triple Frequency Capacitively Coupled Plasma

A triple frequency capacitively coupled plasma （TF-CCP） has been considered to investigate the behavior of the sheath parameters. A self-consistent time-independent collisionless model has been developed. The sheath width and potential are calculated using the present model and compared with those calculated using a single-frequency （SF）, a dual-frequency （DF） and a triple-frequency （TF） model for time independent collisionless cases. The sheath motion and sheath potential are found to be larger compared with those of SF and DF CCPs for an inhomogeneous sheath, and that of TF CCP for a homogeneous sheath. The effects of the source parameters, i.e., current magnitudes, frequencies and phase difference, on the sheath parameters are investigated. The sheath parameters show higher values at higher source currents whereas they decrease with the increase of excitation frequencies. It has also been found that, by the proper choice of source frequencies and phase differences, it is possible to adjust the energy of ions when they hit the electrode.

Effects of multiple shapes for steady flow with transformer oil+Fe_(3)O_(4)+TiO_(2) between two stretchable rotating disks

In this study,we examine the effects of various shapes of nanoparticles in a steady flow of hybrid nanofluids between two stretchable rotating *** steady flow of hybrid nanofluids with transformer oil as the base fluid and Fe_(3)O_(4)+TiO_(2)as the hybrid nanofluid is *** shapes of Fe_(3)O_(4)+TiO_(2)hybrid nanofluids,including sphere,brick,blade,cylinder,and platelet,are *** shape exists in the same volume of a *** leading equations(partial differential equations(PDEs))are transformed to the nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODEs)with the help of similarity *** system of equations takes the form of ODEs depending on the boundary conditions,whose solutions are computed numerically by the bvp4c mATLAB *** outputs are compared with the previous findings,and an intriguing pattern is discovered,such that the tangential velocity is increased for the rotation parameter,while it is decreased by the stretching values because of the lower *** the reaction rate parameter,the concentration boundary layer becomes shorter,and the activation energy component increases the rate at which mass transfers come to the higher disk but have the opposite effect on the bottom *** ranges of various parameters taken into account are Pr=6.2,Re=2,m=1.0,φ_(1)=φ_(2)=0.03,K=0.5,S=-0.1,Br=0.3,Sc=2.0,α_(1)=0.2,γ=0.1,E_(n)=2.0,and q=1.0,and the rotation factor K is within the range of 0 to 1.

An evaluation of force-based design *** displacement-based design of jointed precast post-tensioned wall systems

The unique features of jointed post-tensioned wall systems, which include minimum structural damage and re-centering capability when subjected to earthquake lateral loads, are the result of using unbonded post-tensioning to attach the walls to the foundation, along with employing energy dissipating shear connectors between the walls. Using acceptance criteria defined in terms of inter-story drift, residual drift, and floor acceleration, this study presents a multiplelevel performance-based seismic evaluation of two five-story unbonded post-tensioned jointed precast wall systems. The design and analysis of these two wall systems, established as the direct displacement-based and force-based solutions for a prototype building used in the PREcast Seismic Structural Systems （PRESSS） program, were performed at 60% scale so that the analysis model could be validated using the PRESSS test data. Both buildings satisfied the performance criteria at four levels of earthquake motions although the design base shear of the direct displacement-based jointed wall system was 50% of that demanded by the force-based design method. The study also investigated the feasibility of controlling the maximum transient inter-story drift in a jointed wall system by increasing the number of energy dissipating shear connectors between the walls but without significantly affecting its re-centering capability.

An Efficient Tide-Surge Interaction model for the Coast of Bangladesh

The numerical method of lines(mOLs)in coordination with the classical fourth-order Runge Kutta(RK(4,4))method is used to solve shallow water equations(SWEs)for foreseeing water levels owing to the nonlinear interaction of tide and surge accompanying with a storm along the coast of *** SWEs are developed by extending the body forces with tide generating forces(TGFs).Spatial variables of the SWEs along with the boundary conditions are approximated by means of finite difference technique on an Arakawa C-grid to attain a system of ordinary differential equations(ODEs)of initial valued in time,which are being solved with the aid of the RK(4,4)*** grid technique is adopted to solve coastal complexities closely with least computational cost.A stable tidal solution in the region of our choice is produced by applying the tidal forcing with the major tidal constituent m2(lunar semi-diurnal)along the southern open-sea boundary of the outer *** experimentations are carried out to simulate water levels generated by the cyclonic storm AILA along the coast of *** model simulated results are found to be in a reasonable agreement with the limited available reported data and observations.

Efficient Algorithm for Prolonging Network Lifetime of Wireless Sensor Networks

One of the fundamental design challenges in designing a Wireless Sensor Network （WSN） is to maximize the network lifetime, as each sensor node of the network is equipped with a limited power battery. To overcome this challenge, different methods were developed in the last few years using such techniques as network protocols, data fusion algorithms using low power, energy efficient routing, and locating optimal sink position. This paper focuses on finding the optimal sink position. Relay nodes are introduced in conjunction with the sensor nodes to mitigate network geometric deficiencies since in most other approaches the sensor nodes close to the sink become heavily involved in data forwarding and, thus, their batteries are quickly depleted. A Particle Swarm Optimization （PSO） based algorithm is used to locate the optimal sink position with respect to those relay nodes to make the network more energy efficient. The relay nodes communicate with the sink instead of the sensor nodes. Tests show that this approach can save at least 40% of the energy and prolong the network lifetime.
