Fabrication of aluminum- graphite composites by hot extrusion

Al-graphite composites have been successfully fabricated by a hot-extrusion *** extrudates can be obtained when graphite content(volume fraction)is less than 40%.T he graphite tends to be aligned along the extrusion direction,due to the deformation of graphite along its basal planes during *** orientation degree of graphite in the extrusion direction is enhanced with decreasing graphite content and extrusion *** preferred orientation of graphite results in an anisotropy of thermal conductivity in the extruded *** incorporation of large sizes of graphite flakes is beneficial to improving the thermal conductivity of extruded Al-graphite composites.

Synthesis and characterization of alumina-matrix oxide/oxide composites

Al2O3 matrix oxide/oxide composites containing rod-like Ba-β-Al2O3 and equiaxed ZrO2 particles have been successfully synthesized by an in-situ process from a mixture of Al2O3 and BaZrO3 powders. The long-axis direction of rod-like Ba-β-Al2O3 phase is parallel to [1010], while the longitudinal interface between Ba-β-Al2O3 phase and Al2O3 matrix is parallel to (0001) of the Ba-β-Al2O3 phase. The mechanical properties of the composites, such as Vickers hardness and fracture toughness, are enhanced with increasing the sintering temperature. Furthermore, the presence of rod-like Ba-β-Al2O3 particles results in enhancement of fracture toughness of the in-situ synthesized composites due to crack deflection and crack bridging.
