Fabrication of a model specimen for understanding micro-galvanic corrosion at the boundary ofα-Mg andβ-Mg17Al12

A model specimen with a single boundary of theα/βphase simulating Mg-Al alloys was successfully fabricated by spark plasma sintering.A small electrode area ofαphase orβphase was prepared using the model specimen,and the OCPs(open-circuit potentials)of each phase and a small electrode area containing theα/βphase boundary in 0.1 M NaCl at pH 8.0 were compared:theβphase exhibited a higher potential,and theαphase showed a lower *** OCP of the small area containing theα/βphase boundary was the intermediate value of these *** a small area containingα/βphase boundary,discoloration and gas bubbles were observed on theαphase,but no bubble generation was detected on theβ*** gas bubbles were initially generated on theαphase near theβphase,but as the discoloration(corrosion)of theαphase approached theβphase,the bubbles were generated on theβ*** micro-galvanic corrosion of theαandβphases,theβphase did not always function as the preferred ***αphase partially corroded(or discolored)and became the anodes,so that the surrounding areas were most likely to be the *** corroded areas(anodes)in theαphase approached theβphase,theβphase would become *** addition to the micro-galvanic corrosion mechanism,the role of Al in corrosion resistance at theα/βphase boundary was determined by surface analysis.

In the present study,numerical calculations of the flow-field around the airfoil model are performed by using the OpenFOAM in high subsonic *** airfoil model is NACA *** maximum thickness is 10 % of the chord *** SonicFOAM and the RhoCentralFOAM are selected as the solver in high subsonic *** grid point is 158,000 and the Mach numbers are 0.277 and 0.569 *** CFD data are compared with the experimental data performed by the cryogenic wind tunnel in the *** results are as *** numerical results of the pressure coefficient distribution on the model surface calculated by the SonicFOAM solver showed good agreement with the experimental data measured by the cryogenic wind *** the data calculated by the SonicFOAM have the capability for the quantitative comparison of the experimental data at low angle of attack.

Structure and Bonding in Some Gd(Ⅲ) Metal Complexes Studied by Three-Dimensional X-Ray Analysis and ^(155)Gd Mssbauer Spectroscopy

Some functional lanthanide metal complexes, such as acetylacetonato complexes, ethylenediaminetetraacetato complexes, were successfully applied for diagnostic technique. The authors are interested in investigating the structure and bonding in lanthanide and actinide metal complexes using 166Er, t55Gd, and 237Np Mtissbauer spectroscopies in connection with single-crystal and/or powder X-ray diffraction, making clear the differences on their structures as well as the differences in the participation of 4f and 5f orbitals in the chemical bonds. In this article, the crystal structures of two novel Gd（Ⅲ） acetylacetonato complexes, Gd（pta）3 · 2H2O （pta = 1,1,1 -trifluoro-5,5-dimethy 1-2,4-hexanedione） and Gd（bfa）3 · 2H2O （bfa = 1, 1, 1 -trifluoro-4-phenyl-2-4-butanedione） were reported. Though both of them were dihydrate and had distorted square antiprismatical structure, Gd（pta）3 · 2H2O crystallizes in the P 2 1/n （#14） monoclinic space group and its lattice parameters are a = 1.4141（6） nm, b = 1.0708（3） nm, c =2.2344（4） nm, β =952.4（2）°, and Gd（bfa）3· 2H2O crystallizes in P 212121 orthorhombic space group and its lattice parameters were a = 1.322 （1） nm, b = 2.295 （1） nm, c = 1. 0786（8） nm. In the meantime, the authors had finished a systematic investigation on the ^155Gd Mossbauer isomer shift （δ） of various Gd（Ⅲ） metal complexes having a different coordination number （C.N.） and different ratios coordinating oxygen to nitrogen. A tendency for the 6 value to decrease with an increase in the C.N, and the number of the nitrogen atom coordinating to Gd was confirmed. This indicated that the Gd-O and/or Gd-N bond in the investigated Gd（Ⅲ） metal complexes had a small covalent contribution, which was possible to be deduced from the O and/or N atoms of the lisands donating electrons to 6s, 5d, and 4f orbitals of Gd.

Substantiality:A Construct Indicating Research Excellence to Measure University Research Performance

Purpose:The adequacy of research performance of universities or research institutes have often been evaluated and understood in two axes:“quantity”(*** or volume)and“quality”(*** we define here as a measure of excellence that is considered theoretically independent of size or volume,such as clarity in diamond grading).The purpose of this article is,however,to introduce a third construct named“substantiality”(“ATSUMI”in Japanese)of research performance and to demonstrate its importance in evaluating/understanding research ***/methodology/approach:We take a two-step approach to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed construct by showing that(1)some characteristics of research universities are not well captured by the conventional constructs(“quantity”and“quality”)-based indicators,and(2)the“substantiality”indicators can capture ***,by suggesting that“substantiality”indicators appear linked to the reputation that appeared in university reputation rankings by simple statistical analysis,we reveal additional benefits of the ***:We propose a new construct named“substantiality”for measuring research *** show that indicators based on“substantiality”can capture important characteristics of research institutes.“Substantiality”indicators demonstrate their“predictive powers”on research *** limitations:The concept of“substantiality”originated from IGO game;therefore the ease/difficulty of accepting the concept is culturally *** other words,while it is easily accepted by people from Japan and other East Asian countries and regions,it might be difficult for researchers from other cultural regions to accept *** implications:There is no simple solution to the challenge of evaluating research universities’research *** is vital to combine different types of indicators to understand the excellence of research *** indicators could be part of such a c

We investigated forest road networks and forestry operations before and after mechanization on aggregated forestry operation sites. We developed equations to estimate densities of road networks with average slope angles, operational efficiency of bunching operations with road network density, and average forwarding distances with operation site areas. Subsequently, we analyzed the effects of aggregating forests, establishing forest road networks, and mechanization on operational efficiency and costs. Six ha proved to be an appropriate operation site area with minimum operation expenses. The operation site areas of the forest owners＇ cooperative in this region aggregated approximately 6 ha and the cooperative conducted forestry operations on aggregated sites. Therefore, 6 ha would be an appropriate operation site area in this region. Regarding road network density, higher-density road networks increased operational expenses due to the higher direct operational expenses of strip road establishment. Therefore, road network density should be reduced to approximately 200 m.

We investigated the interfacial effects on magnetic properties in Co2Fe(Al,Si)/Ge (CFAS/Ge) and CFAS/MgO/Ge systems to demonstrate the effects of the interface structure on magnetic properties. CFAS and CFAS/MgO were deposited on the i-Ge(111) substrate. In-situ reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) patterns showed epitaxially grown CFAS and MgO on Ge(111). According to the X-ray diffraction (XRD)φ-scan of CFAS(220), we determined that the crystallographic orientation relationships were CFAS(111)//Ge(111) and CFAS(111)//MgO(111) Ge(111). The magnetic properties were measured by the vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and the saturation magnetization Ms value of CFAS with 2-nm thick MgO reached the value of L21 ordered one. A uniaxial magnetic anisotropy behavior was observed both in CFAS/Ge and CFAS/MgO/Ge structures after annealing. We confirmed the behavior did not only originate from the CFAS/Ge interface but also CFAS/MgO and the ordering structure.
