Background:Recurrent acute cholecystitis(RAC)can occur after non-surgical treatment for acute cholecystitis(AC),and can be more severe in comparison to the first episode of *** skeletal muscle mass or adiposity have various effects in several *** aimed to clarify the relationship between RAC and body ***:Patients with AC who were treated at our hospital between January 2011 and March 2022 were *** psoas muscle mass and adipose tissue area at the third lumbar level were measured using computed tomography at the first episode of *** areas were divided by height to obtain the psoas muscle mass index(PMI)and subcutaneous/visceral adipose tissue index(SATI/VATI).According to median VATI,SATI and PMI values by sex,patients were divided into the high and low PMI *** performed propensity score matching to eliminate the baseline differences between the high PMI and low PMI groups and analyzed the cumulative incidence and predictors of ***:The entire cohort was divided into the high PMI(n=81)and low PMI(n=80)*** the propensity score-matched cohort there were 57 patients in each *** Kaplan-Meier analysis,the low PMI group and the high VATI group had a significantly higher cumulative incidence of RAC than their counterparts(log-rank P=0.001 and 0.015,respectively).In a multivariate Cox regression analysis,the hazard ratios of low PMI and low VATI for RAC were 5.250(95%confidence interval 1.083-25.450,P=0.039)and 0.158(95%confidence interval:0.026-0.937,P=0.042),***:Low skeletal muscle mass and high visceral adiposity were independent risk factors for RAC.

This study focused on the development and characterization of TiO2-PES composite fibers with varying TiO2 loading amounts using a phase inversion process. The resulting composite fibers exhibited a sponge-like structure with embedded TiO2 nanoparticles within a polymer matrix. Their photocatalytic performance for ammonia removal from aqueous solutions under UV-A light exposure was thoroughly investigated. The findings revealed that PeTi8 composite fibers displayed superior adsorption capacity compared to other samples. Moreover, the study explored the impact of pH, light intensity, and catalyst dosage on the photocatalytic degradation of ammonia. Adsorption equilibrium isotherms closely followed the Langmuir model, with the results indicating a correlation between qm values of 2.49 mg/g and the porous structure of the adsorbents. The research underscored the efficacy of TiO2 composite fibers in the photocatalytic removal of aqueous under UV-A light. Notably, increasing the distance between the photocatalyst and the light source resulted in de-creased hydroxyl radical concentration, influencing photocatalytic efficiency. These findings contribute to our understanding of TiO2 composite fibers as promising photocatalysts for ammonia removal in water treatment applications.

Vinyl ether (VE)-based amphiphilic block copolymers with D-glucose residues as hydrophilicpendants were synthesized by CH_3 CH(OiBu)Cl/ZnI_2-initiated sequential living cationic copolymerization of3-O-(vinyloxy)ethyl-1, 2:5, 6-di-O-isopropylidene-D-glucofuranose (IGVE) and isobutyl VE (IBVE ) andsubsequent deprotection. The precursor block copolymers had a narrow molecular weight distribution(M_w/M_n～1.1) and a controlled segmental composition. The solubility characteristics of the amphiphiliccopolymer depended strongly on composition. Their solvent-cast thin films were examined, under atransmission electron microscope, and could be seen to exhibit various microphase-separated surfacemorphologies such as spheres, cylinders, and lamellae, depending on composition. The amphiphiliccopolymers with the appropriate segmental composition were found to form a stable monolayer at the air-water interface, which was successfully transferred onto a substrate by the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB)technique. The layered strucfure of the built-up LB films was controlled by blending the homopolymer.

Evaluation of the Fatigue Characteristics of Laser-processed Hot Work Tool Steel Based on Reliability

It is reported that laser-processing is effective to repair the heat checks, which are fine shallow cracks on a surfaceof die-casting dies. In this study, the rotating bending fatigue tests have been carried out to evaluate the fatiguecharacteristics of laser-processed hot working tool steel. Because test results are scattered, S-N curves are decidedbased on the evaluation of fatigue strength distribution. As a result, the fatigue strength of the laser-processedspecimens decreases remarkably in comparison with that of base metal. However, it can be recovered to almostinitial value by heat treatment at secondary hardening temperature. This procedure is also effective to decrease thescatter of fatigue strength. The laser-processing can be carried out at low cost and this method is effective for theextension of the work life of dies.

The experimental result of the collection efficiency of the axial flow cyclone with the fixed guide vanes is lower than that with the tangential inlet pipe to the cyclone body due to the weak angular momentum transfer given by flowing through the guide vanes. However, one of the interesting points is the control of the collection efficiency depended on the funnel shaped exit pipes. The collection efficiencies for these funnel shaped exit pipes are depended on the Froude number. Then, in this paper, the experimental results of the pressure drop and also the collection efficiency using the fly-ash particles and also the comparison of the calculated results of the collection efficiency with the experimental results are described i~ detail.

Capacitation and the acrosome reaction are key phenomena in mammalian fertilization. These phenomena were found more than 60 years ago. However, fundamental questions regarding the nature of capacitation and the timing of the acrosome reaction remain unsolved. Factors were postulated overtime, but as their roles were not verified by gene-disruption experiments, widely accepted notions concemingthe mechanism of fertilization are facing modifications. Today, although in vitro fertilization systems remain our central research tool, the importance of in vivo observations must be revisited. Here, primarily focusing on our own research, I summarize how in vivo observations using gene-manipulated animals have elucidated new concepts in the mechanisms of fertilization.
