Management and outcomes of gastric volvulus in children: a systematic review

Dynamic recrystallization and texture development during hot deformation of magnesium alloy AZ31

The dynamic recrystallization(DRX) and texture development, taking place during hot deformation of magnesium alloy AZ31 with a strong wire texture, were studied in compression at 673 K (0.73 Tm). Two kinds of samples were machined parallelly to the extruded and transverse directions of Mg alloy rods. New fine grains are evolved at original grain boundaries corrugated at low strains and develop rapidly in the medium range of strain, finally leading to a roughly full evolution of equiaxial fine grains. Kink bands are evolved at grain boundaries corrugated and also frequently in grain interiors at low strains. The boundary misorientations of kink band increase rapidly with increasing strain and approach a saturation value in high strain. The average size of the regions fragmented by kink band is almost the same as that of new grains evolved in high strain. These characteristics of new grain evolution process are not changed by the orientation of the samples, while the flow behaviors clearly depend on it. It is concluded that new grain evolution can be controlled by a deformation-induced continuous reaction, i.e. continuous dynamic recrystallization(DRX). The latter is discussed by comparing with conventional, i.e. discontinuous DRX.

The static recrystallization of hot-deformed magnesium alloy AZ31 during isothermal annealing was studied at temperature of 503 K by optical and SEM/EBSD metallographic *** grain size change during isothermal annealing is categorized into three regions,*** incubation period for grain growth,rapid grain coarsening,and normal grain *** number of fine grains per unit area,however,decreases remarkably even in incubation *** leads to grain coarsening taking place continuously in the whole period of *** contrast,the deformation texture scarcely changes even after full annealing at high *** is concluded that the annealing processes operating in hot-deformed magnesium alloy with continuous dynamic recrystallized grain structures can be mainly controlled by grain coarsening without texture change,that is,continuous static recrystallization.

Comparative assessment of primary and secondary infection risks in a norovirus outbreak using a household model simulation

Diarrheal diseases can be transmitted via both primary infection due to exposures to contaminated materials from the environment and secondary infection due to person- to-person contacts. Usually, the importance of secondary infection is empirically assessed by fitting mathematical models to the epidemic curves. However, these empirical models may not be applicable to other epidemic cases because they are developed only for the target epidemics and they don＇t consider the detail routes of infection. In our previous study, we developed a theoretical model taking into account the various routes of infection that commonly occur in households （e.g., shaking hands, food handling, and changing diapers）. This model was made flexible and applicable to any epidemics by means of adjusting model parameters. In this study, we proposed a new index ＂Vulnerability indicator to secondary infection （VISI）＂, which expressed a ratio of secondary infection to primary infection risks and calculated this index in a simulated norouirus （NOV） epidemic that involved I0,000 households. The results demonstrated that households composed of more than three members including infant（s） had much higher levels of VlSl （5-45） than two-member-households with VlSI （0.1-4）. These results concluded that the infants were likely to be a hub of secondary infections in highly dense families and therefore careful handling of diapers was deemed indispensible in such families to effectively control the secondary infections.

Field survey of a sustainable sanitation system in a residential house

Sustainable sanitation is an approach for more ecological and sustainable water resources management. In this paper, we proposed one of the new integrated waste treatment systems： an ＂sustainable sanitation system＂ that includes separation of the black water from water system by a non-flushing toilet （bio-toilet）, and a gray water treatment based on a biological and ecological concept. Sustainable sanitation system also converts the domestic waste to soil conditioners and fertilizers, for farmland use. As one of the case studies, Environmentally Symbiotic Housing in which people actually live using the bio-toilet for the black water treatment and the household wastewater treatment facility for the gray water was introduced. The availability of this system was investigated by analyzing the sawdust used in the bio-toilet and the quality of the effluent in the household wastewater treatment facility. As the result, the water content of the sawdust did not exceed 60% in any of the sampling points and the BOD and COD of the effluent of the household wastewater treatment facility were below 10 and 20 mg/L respectively, due to the low loading. Compared to the pollution load on the water environment created by the conventional system, it was found that the effluent of the house has a lower load than the tertiary treatment and the volume of the water consumption is 75% of the conventional system.

The roles of tubulin-folding cofactors in neuronal morphogenesis and disease

Microtubules play important roles in neuronal morphogenesis, including cellular polarization, neurite growth, and branching. A microtubule is a polymer of a- and β-tubulin heterodimers that are formed by a multistep process assisted by at least five tubulin-fold- ing cofactors （TBCA-E）（Lopez-Fanarraga et al., 2001）. Newly syn- thesized α- and β-tubulins associate with the cytosolic chaperonin complex （CCT）, and then the quasi-native tubulins interact with five tubulin-folding cofactors. The α- and β-tubulins first interact with TBCB and TBCA, which are further transferred to TBCE and TBCD, respectively. The α- and β-tubulins, TBCC, TBCD, and TBCE form a supercomplex, and guanosine triphosphate （GTP） hydrolysis occurs within the supercomplex, releasing a tubulin heterodimer. In addition to their functions in tubulin folding and tubulin heterodimer formation, excess amounts of TBCD or TBCE may interact with tubulin heterodimers, leading to their degrada- tion. Thus, tubulin-folding cofactors may play a role in both the synthesis and degradation of tubulin heterodimers.

Aero-Thermal Performances of Leakage Flows Injection from the Endwall Slot in Linear Cascade of High-Pressure Turbine

The existence of a gap between combustor and turbine endwall in the real gas turbine induces to the leakages phenomenon. However, the leakages could be used as a coolant to protect the endwaU surfaces from the hot gas since it could not be completely prevented. Thus, present study investigated the potential of leakage flows as a function of film cooling. In present study, the flow field at the downstream of high-pressure turbine blade has been investigated by 5-holes pitot tube. This is to reveal the aerodynamic performances under the influenced of leakage flows while the temperature measurement was conducted by thermoehromic liquid crystal （TLC）. Expe- rimental has significantly captured theaerodynamics effect of leakage flows near the blade downstream. Further- more, TLC measurement illustrated that the film cooling effectiveness contours were strongly influenced by the secondary flows behavior on the endwall region. Aero-thermal results were validated by the numerical simulation adopted by commercial sottware, ANSYS CFX 13. Both experimental and numerical simulation indicated almost similar trendinaero and also thermal behavior as the amount of leakage flows increases.

VGQ-Vor： extending virtual grid quadtree with Voronoi diagram for mobile k nearest neighbor queries over mobile objects

Performing mobile k nearest neighbor （MkNN） queries whilst also being mobile is a challenging problem. All the mobile objects issuing queries and/or being queried are mobile. The performance of this kind of query relies heav- ily on the maintenance of the current locations of the objects. The index used for mobile objects must support efficient up- date operations and efficient query handling. This study aims to improve the performance of the MkNN queries while re- ducing update costs. Our approach is based on an observa- tion that the frequency of one region changing between being occupied or not by mobile objects is much lower than the frequency of the position changes reported by the mobile ob- jects. We first propose an virtual grid quadtree with Voronoi diagram （VGQ-Vor）, which is a two-layer index structure that indexes regions occupied by mobile objects in a quadtree and builds a Voronoi diagram of the regions. Then we propose a moving k nearest neighbor （kNN） query algorithm on the VGQ-Vor and prove the correctness of the algorithm. The ex- perimental results show that the VGQ-Vor outperforms the existing techniques （Bx-tree, Bdual-tree） by one to three or- ders of magnitude in most cases.

Sensing Characteristics of Mixed-Potential-Type YSZ-Based NO_x Sensor Using Au-Doped NiO Sensing Electrode

The nano-structured NiO powder obtained by sol-gel method was doped with 10 wt% gold in order to modify its morphology as well as its electrochemical catalytic *** NO_x sensing characteristics of mixed-potential-type YSZ-based planar sensors attached with each of the nano-NiO and the Au-doped nano-NiO materials as a sensing electrode SE) were examined at temperatures of 700℃～800℃.The Au-doped NiO-SE was found to give a large enhancement in the NO_2 sensitivity as well as the NO_2 selectivity at 800℃under wet condition,in comparison with the pure *** reason for the improvement in the NO_2 sensitivity was examined based on the data of polarization curves,impedance spectra and catalytic activity for the gas-phase NO_2 decomposition.
