Much researches on the operation and structure of tundish were carried out at Xiangtan Iron and Steel Co Ltd to increase the yield of grade 20 carbon steel on the continuous casting production line. Through analyzing formation mechanism of pinholes and non metallic inclusions in billets and describing pattern of the flow of molten steel in tundish by a mathematic model, it was shown that the structure and operation of tundishes play an important part in product quality. So some measures were taken as follows: (1) Optimizing the tundish construction to decrease the impact of liquid steel and lengthening the residence time of liquid steel for homogenization of liquid steel; (2) Improving the influent and effluent operation of liquid steel to avoid the contact of liquid steel with air in order to decrease reoxidation; (3) Reducing over heat during continuous casting. After above measures being taken, the yield of grade 20 carbon steel and the service life of equipment were improved remarkably.

This is the first to elucidate the distribution and sources of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans （PCDD/PCDFs）,and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls in the waters from Kanzaki River,which is one of the most heavily polluted rivers in *** World Health Organization （WHO）-toxic equivalent quantities （TEQs） in waters from the mainstream exceeded the Japanese environmental standard （1.0 pg-TEQ/L）.The PCDD/PCDFs were dominated by highly chlorinated DFs,which predominantly contributed to the WHO-TEQs,suggesting that the main causes would be the incineration-related *** find the sources,the dioxin congener concentrations in water and sediment samples from its tributary small waterways were *** high WHO-TEQs were detected in a water （50 pg-TEQ/L） and a sediment sample （41,000 ng-TEQ/kg dry weight） near the industrial solid waste incinerators （ISWIs）.The PCDD/PCDF characteristics agreed well with those of the incinerator-related wastes as seen in the *** facts indicate that the dioxin pollution in the mainstream could be largely related to the industrial wastes from the ***,a TEQ apportionment method was used to understand the contribution of the pyrogenic sources to the *** average contribution ratios of the pyrogenic sources to WHO-TEQs were more than 80% for river waters from the mainstream,indicating that the elevated WHO-TEQs in the mainstream had been largely caused by the ISWIs.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)is characterized by adult-onset progressive degeneration of upper and lower motor *** numbers of genes are found to be associated with ALS;among those,the first identified gene,SOD1 coding a Cu/Zn-superoxide dismutase protein(SOD1),has been regarded as the gold standard in the research on a pathomechanism of *** accumulation of misfolded SOD1 in affected spinal motor neurons has been established as a pathological hallmark of ALS caused by mutations in SOD1(SOD1-ALS).Nonetheless,the involvement of wild-type SOD1 remains quite controversial in the pathology of ALS with no SOD1 mutations(non-SOD1 ALS),which occupies more than 90%of total ALS *** vitro studies have revealed post-translationally controlled misfolding and aggregation of wild-type as well as of mutant SOD1 proteins;therefore,SOD1 proteins could be a therapeutic target not only in SOD1-ALS but also in more prevailing cases,non-SOD1 *** order to search for evidence on misfolding and aggregation of wild-type SOD1 in vivo,we reviewed pathological studies using mouse models and patients and then summarized arguments for and against possible involvement of wild-type SOD1 in non-SOD1 ALS as well as in SOD1-ALS.

Solvent Extraction of Niobium from Alkali Solution by Methyltrioctylammonium Chloride

For the purpose of developing an alkali leaching solvent extraction directly from alkali solution process, the extraction of niobium from alkali solution by long chain alkyl quaternary ammonium salt (methyltrioctylammonium chloride R 4NCl) in toluene was investigated. The experiments were carried out under conditions of 25 ℃, Nb(Ⅴ) concentration 0.01 mol/L, pH 10.7 13.8, R 4NCl concentration 0.02 0.14 mol/L. It has been found that the distribution ratio of niobium increases with increasing R 4NCl concentration and with decreasing KCl concentration, but it shows maximum value at pH value of about 12 and decreases below or above this pH value. Distribution ratio of niobium goes up to over 1 000 in appropriate conditions, and so it has been proved that R 4NCl is an effective extractant for extraction of niobium from alkali solution.

High-temperature fatigue properties were investigated for a nickel-based superalloy 617 as a typical candidate material for high-temperature components using an advanced ultra super critical （A-USC） power plant. Creep-fatigue data obtained by strain-controlled tests at 700 ？ C was analyzed for the superalloy 617 focused on position of hold at peak strain in comparison with continuously cycled tests. The fatigue life was the shortest with the hold tensile strain wave, which showed mainly intergranular fracture appearance. The life was the longest with symmetrical triangular wave which fractured from the specimen surface, while the wave with the hold compressive strain showed partially intergranular fracture appearance and the life was middle in the both waves. In this study, it is discussed with the creep-fatigue interaction for the superalloy 617.

Background:To examine the effectiveness of the use of machine learning for adapting an intraocular lens(IOL)power calculation for a patient ***:In this retrospective study,the clinical records of 1,611 eyes of 1,169 Japanese patients who received a single model of monofocal IOL(SN60WF,Alcon)at Miyata Eye Hospital were reviewed and *** biometric metrics and postoperative refractions of 1211 eyes of 769 patients,constants of the SRK/T and Haigis formulas were *** SRK/T formula was adapted using a support vector *** errors in the use of adapted formulas as well as the SRK/T,Haigis,Hill-RBF and Barrett Universal II formulas were evaluated with data from 395 eyes of 395 distinct *** prediction errors,median absolute errors,and percentages of eyes within±0.25 D,±0.50 D,and±1.00 D,and over+0.50 D of errors were compared among ***:The mean prediction errors in the use of the SRT/K and adapted formulas were smaller than the use of other formulas(P<0.001).In the absolute errors,the Hill-RBF and adapted methods were better than *** performance of the Barrett Universal II was not better than the others for the patient *** were the least eyes with hyperopic refractive errors(16.5%)in the use of the adapted ***:Adapting IOL power calculations using machine learning technology with data from a particular patient group was effective and promising.

Capillary filling in small length scale is an important process in nanotechnology and microfabrication. When one end of the tube or channel is sealed, it is important to consider the escape of the trapped gas. We develop a dynamic model on capillary filling in closed-end tubes, based on the diffusion-convection equation and Henry＇s law of gas dissolution. We systematically investigate the filling dynamics for various sets of parameters, and compare the results with a previous model which assumes a linear density profile of dissolved gas and neglect the convective term.
