Significance of a novel sucrose permeability test using serum in the diagnosis of early gastric cancer

AIM： To investigate the usefulness of sucrose permeability test using serum in the diagnosis of gastric diseases, with special reference to early gastric cancer （EGC）. METHODS： A total of 63 subjects, including 11 patients with gastric ulcer, 20 patients with gastric cancer （13, early; 7, advanced） and 32 healthy controls, were studied. Blood and urine samples were collected repeatedly for 5 h before and after the sucrose loading. Sucrose levels were measured by a newly developed RESULTS： Serum sucrose levels started to increase 15 min after loading, and peaked at 60 min in the gastric disease groups. The levels for gastric ulcer, EGC and advanced gastric cancer （AGC） at 60 min were significantly higher than that in the healthy controls （26.9±2.4, 34.4±5.0, and 71.8±15.6 vs 7.9±0.7 mol/L, respectively, P〈0.01）. The cut-off level set at 15.4 mol/L （60 min） offered the best distinction between EGC patients and healthy controls; and the sensitivity and specificity were 92.3% and 93.8%, respectively, while those of the urine method were 76.9% and 93.8%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS： The gastric permeability test using serum is reliable for the detection of EGC, and this test can provide results much earlier than the conventional urine method. This test may offer a useful alternative to more invasive tests for EGC.

AIM To investigate whether GNB3 C825 T single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) contributes to systolic blood pressure(SBP) ≥ 130 mmH g in a large-scale cross-sectional study among the Japanese population with diastolic blood pressure(DBP) < 85 mmH g. METHODS We analyzed 11008 Japanese subjects, including 2797 cases(SBP ≥ 130 and DBP < 85 mmH g) who were not taking anti-hypertensive medication and 8211 controls(SBP < 130 and DBP < 85 mmH g), all of whom enrolled in the genome banking project of the 21 st Century COE(Center of Excellence) Program at Jichi Medical University. Subjects were divided into four groups according to gender(male and female) and age(≤ 49 years and ≥ 50 years). GNB3 gene polymorphism was determined using the TaqM an probe method. We compared the frequencies of alleles and genotypes between cases and controls by chi-squared test. The strength of the associations was estimated by odds ratios(ORs) and 95%CI by using logistic regression analysis. The ORs were adjusted for age and body mass index. RESULTS Allele and genotype distributions significantly differed between cases and controls only in males aged ≤ 49 years. Compared to the CC genotype, a significant OR was obtained in the TT genotype among males aged ≤ 49 *** This study indicates that the TT genotype of the GNB3 C825 T SNP may contribute to SBP elevation of greater than 130 mmH g compared to the CC genotype in Japanese males aged ≤ 49 years.

The East Asian Very Long Baseline Interferometry(VLBI) Network(EAVN) is a rapidly evolving international VLBI array that is currently promoted under joint efforts among China,Japan and *** aims at forming a joint VLBI Network by combining a large number of radio telescopes distributed over East Asian *** the combination of the Korean VLBI Network(KVN) and the VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry(VERA) into Ka VA,further expansion with the joint array in East Asia is actively *** we report the first imaging results(at 22 and 43 GHz) of bright radio sources obtained with Ka VA connected to Tianma 65-m and Nanshan 26-m Radio Telescopes in *** test the EAVN imaging performance for different sources,we observed four active galactic nuclei(AGN) having different brightness and *** a result,we confirmed that the Tianma 65-m Radio Telescope(TMRT) significantly enhances the overall array sensitivity,a factor of 4 improvement in baseline sensitivity and 2 in image dynamic range compared to the case of Ka VA *** addition of the Nanshan 26-m Radio Telescope(NSRT) further doubled the east-west angular *** the resulting high-dynamic-range,high-resolution images with EAVN(Ka VA+TMRT+NSRT),various fine-scale structures in our targets,such as the counter-jet in M87,a kink-like morphology of the 3 C 273 jet and the weak emission in other sources are successfully *** demonstrates the powerful capability of EAVN to study AGN jets and to achieve other science goals in *** expansion of EAVN will further enhance the angular resolution,detection sensitivity and frequency coverage of the network.
