We report a case of hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） treated successfully by transarterial chemoembolization （TACE） followed by combination therapy of 5-fluorouracil （5-FU） and pegylated interferon-α （PEG-IFN-α）. In the present case, the patient had massive and advanced HCC with a diameter of over 8 cm located in segment 7 （S7） of the liver. Furthermore, the tumor invaded into the major branch of the portal vein （Vp3）. After TACE, combined administration of 5-FU and PEG-IFN-α was performed for 5 too. HCC was totally eradicated and the serum levels of tumor markers were markedly decreased by the treatment. Although it has been reported that the combined use of conventional IFN-α and 5-FU showed striking effects on HCC in some cases, this case may suggest the more promising effect of PEG-IFN-α with a long-lasting effect, in the combined use with 5-FU for the treatment of massive advanced HCC.

In time-of-flight mass spectrometry（TOF MS）, superconducting strip ion detectors（SSIDs） in the parallel configuration are promising for ideal ion detection with a nanosecond-scale time response and a practical large sensitive area. In the parallel configuration, the bias current in one strip is diverted into other parallel strips after each detection event. Under high bias current conditions, the diverted bias current induces cascade switching of all parallel strips. Studies show that cascade switching degrades the ion count rate of SSIDs made from niobium and hence is disliked in TOF MS applications. To suppress the bias current redistribution, we connected resistors in a series with the individual parallel strips using aluminum-bonding wires. Their effect was studied by measuring the pulse height distributions.

Helicon plasma sputtering of Fe/Si multilayer followed by thermal annealing in Ar atmosphere was used to fabricate β-FeSi2 films. [Fe 0.5nm/Si 1.6nm] 120 multilayer was deposited on Si（100） substrate and then the samples were annealed at 900℃ for 2h or at 9001000℃ for 10s. Annealed samples were characterized by X-ray diffractometry（XRD）, Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and optical absorption measurement. （202）/（220） oriented β-FeSi2 films are fabricated from the multilayer according to XRD patterns. It is found that there is a very small redistribution of Fe and Si components in the films during the thermal annealing, so that a good stoichiometry of FeSi2 can be obtained. It is also revealed by scanning electron microscopy that multilayer technology can result in a smooth surface for β-FeSi2 films. Optical absorption spectra demonstrate that the films have a direct band gap of 0.9eV at room temperature.

This study aimed to systematically find an alternative solvent to replace hexane for the extraction of bio-oil with high𝛾-oryzanol content from rice bran(RB).The selection involved predicting solubility through Hansen solubility theory,experimental validation,determination of suitable extraction conditions,and comparison of oil quality with that of conventional hexane.A wide variety of solvents:subcritical water(SCW),supercritical carbon dioxide(SCCO_(2)),bio-based sol-vents(alcohols and terpenes),and liquefied dimethyl ether(LDME),were initially assessed for rice bran oil(RBO)and𝛾-oryzanol solubility using Hansen solubility *** demon-strating high solubility for both RBO and𝛾-oryzanol,including LDME,ethyl acetate,acetone,and others(alcohols and SCCO_(2))known for effective vegetable oil extraction,were selected/identified for experimental extraction *** these,LDME performed better overall,affording greater solubility and requiring less solvent,shorter duration,lower pressure,and no additional co-solvents for equivalent *** conditions for LDME extraction were identified as 30℃ with a solvent-to-sample ratio of 10 mL/g and an extraction time of 10 *** extracted with LDME and hexane displayed similar fatty acid compositions and no adverse effects on RB protein and carbohydrate structures after LDME extraction were *** study demon-strates LDME as a promising alternative to replace hexane for RBO extraction to further valorize this abundant low-cost RB residue into bio-oil and its𝛾γ-oryzanol and de-oil RB co-products.

Microstructural origins of high strength of Al-Si alloy manufactured by laser powder bed fusion:In-situ synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction approach

The microstructural factors contributing to the high strength of additive-manufactured Al-Si alloys us-ing laser-beam powder bed fusion(PBF-LB)were identified by in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction in tensile deformation and transmission electron ***-LB and heat treatment were employed to manufacture Al-12%Si binary alloy specimens with different *** an early stage of de-formation prior to macroscopic yielding,stress was dominantly partitioned into the α-Al matrix,rather than the Si phase in all *** concentrated Si solute(~3%)in the α-Al matrix promoted the dynamic precipitation of nanoscale Si phase during loading,thereby increasing the yield *** macroscopic yielding,the partitioned stress in the Si phase monotonically increased in the strain-hardening regime with an increase in the dislocation density in the α-Al *** a later stage of strain hardening,the flow curves of the partitioned stress in the Si phase yielded stress relaxation owing to plastic ***,Si-phase particles localized along the cell walls in the cellular-solidified microstructure play a significant role in dislocation obstacles for strain *** with the results of the heat-treated specimens with different microstructural factors,the dominant strengthening factors of PBF-LB manufactured Al-Si alloys were discussed.

The plasma actuation (PA) effect on the snow falling flow was investigated using a plasma electrode with weather resistant design and the natural snow wind facility of the Hokkaido University of Science. NACA0015 test blade with chord length c of 300 mm was used. Wind tunnel tests were carried out under the angle of the attack of the blade was fixed at 15 degrees, and the main flow velocity is U=5 m/s. PIV (Particle image velocimetry) measurements were conducted on various PA conditions using natural dry snowflakes as a tracer. When the actuator was driven under the condition of the fundamental frequency of F=50 kHz, and the pulsed modulated frequency f of fc/U=1 and Duty ratio (Ratio of plasma ON time to pulse duration time) =1%, movement of snowflakes was controlled the most effectively tested. It was clarified that the fundamental frequency of PA also affects the control of snow flow. Under snowfall conditions, the weather resistant designed plasma electrode has suffered no damage and operated successfully.

Objective To explore the mechanism that cytoplasmic factors could recover L-type Ca2+ channel activity after "run-down".The factors include ATP,calpastatin and H fraction(a high molecular fraction of bovine cardiac cytoplasm).Methods Single Ca2+ channel activities were recorded with patch clamp technique in guinea-pig cardiac ***-down was induced by the inside-out patch ***(CS),calmodulin(CaM)and three GST-fusion fragment peptides derived from the C-terminal tail of guinea-pig Cav1.2,CT-1(amino acids number 1509-1791),CT-2(1777-2003)and CT-3(1944-2169)were produced as GST fusion ***(1)CaM + ATP or CS + ATP restored the channels after run-down;however,the CaM or CS's effects became smaller with the longer run-down time.(2)After run down,CaM-dependent protein kinase(CaMKII)produced Ca2+ channel activity to only 2-10% of the basal activity,however,in the presence of CaMKII,the time-dependent nature of the CaM effect was abolished.(3)In pull-down assay,CT-1 treated with CaMKII showed a higher affinity for CaM than that treated with phosphatase.(4)CaMKII was detected in the H fraction of bovine cardiac *** The results show that CS,CaM and CaMKII are all involved in the maintenance of the basal activity of L-type Ca2+ channels,and that there might be cross talks among the four factors(CS,CaM,CaMKII and the undefined cytoplasmic factor).

Large size hydrogen neutral beam injectors （NBI） used a negative ion source （NNBI） as well as a proton source （PNBI） were developed for the large helical device （LHD）. The injected power from NNBI and PNBI have reached 16 MW and 6.8 MW, respectively, These injected powers have outstripped the nominal beam powers. A diagnostic system of beam-emitted hydrogen visible spectrum has been installed along the beam injection axis to estimate the energy fraction on PNBI. The full energy beam component is about half which is equivalent to 70% of injected beam power. The attenuation of high energy neutral beam is also observed on NNBI. The peak density distribution is effective to increase beam deposition power.
