This study is examined the effect of past and present lifestyle habits and nutrition on the os-teo-sono assessment index (OSI) in pre- and post-menopausal females. The subjects were 200 premenopausal females (38.8±10.3years) and 156 postmenopausal females (59.2±5.9 ye- ars). BMD (Body mineral density) was estimated by right-calcaneal OSI using an ultrasonic transmission method with an AOS-100 device (ALOKA). The number of postmenopau- sal fe-males in the close examination and guidance required groups (80 cases: 51.3 %) (OSI < 2.428) was significantly higher than that of premeno-pausal females (44 cases: 22.0 %) (χ2=33.105: P<0.000). In premenopausal females, the proportion of subjects that had not taken vitamin D in the past (in junior high school and high school) was significantly higher in the close examination- guidance required group (OSI < 2.428) than in the normal group (OSI ≧ 2.428). However, in postmenopausal females, there was no signifi-cant difference in past and present lifestyle habits and nutrition between the close exami-nation-guidance required group and the normal group. In premenopausal females, it was deter-mined that the intake of vitamin D during pu-berty increased the absorption of calcium sig-nificantly.

Muscle endurance measurement using a progressive workload method may reduce pain sensation in the subject. This study aimed to examine the relationships between force-time parameters during sustained static gripping as measured by maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) using either a progressive workload (PW) or a constant workload (CW). Sixteen subjects performed sustained static gripping with 7 gradually increasing relative demand values of 20% to 80% MVC and sustained static gripping by MVC. The staging of progressive workload was 10 s for 20% MVC, 20 s each for 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70% MVC, and 10 s for 80% MVC. The forces exerted at 120 s in the CW and PW methods were at around the 23-27% MVC level. Peak force, final force, and force during the last 30 s for the PW method evaluated muscle endurance after 1 min and showed high correlations (r = 0.746 ? 0.895). Significant correlations (r = 0.575 ? 0.605) were found between time to 40% MVC in the CW method and peak force, final force, and force in the last 30 s in the PW method group. The peak force in the PW method may be useful for evaluating muscle endurance with a short testing time and without high pain sensation.

In order to further understand high-temperature deformation behavior and its-related mechanical prop-erties,the Portevin-Le Chatelier(PLC)effect in an Fe-19Cr-13Ni-0.2C austenitic stainless steel was in-vestigated using high-temperature digital image correlation(DIC)*** the tensile testing at temperatures from 473 to 623 K,different types of serrated flow appeared even at a constant applied strain rate,and the type transition took place dynamically in a certain order with deformation *** analysis revealed that the dynamic type transition of the serrated flow obeys the PLC band propagation behavior,and that the transition of the PLC band propagation behavior could be attributed to the PLC band nucleation *** modeling also proved that the nucleation manner of PLC band nu-cleation is determined by the spatial-temporal coupling effect.

Vortexes induced by tsunamis,“tsunami vortexes”,pose a potential danger for ship evacuation,and their prediction is important to determine their role in navigation and safe vessel *** study simulated tsunami-induced vortexes in Osaka Bay and investigated their spatial and temporal scales using a port-resolved,high-resolution tsunami model based on a scenario for the largest tsunamigenic earthquake expected to occur along the Nankai Trough in the near *** induced by tidal currents were also evaluated using a realistic tidal simulation for comparison with the magnitudes of the tsunami *** tsunami simulation identified the dominant areas of the tsunami vortexes characterized by the magnitude of the *** maps of tsunami speeds and vortexes showed the difficult areas for ship evacuation and indicated that these areas can persist after the approach of the leading wave around the entrances to port *** areas of tsunami vortex formation were largely deduced by analyzing the vorticity fields in the tidal simulations,because the magnitude of tsunami-induced vorticities was closely correlated with that of the tide-induced *** combination of tide and tsunami simulations can identify areas of tsunami vortex formation and provide valuable information to guide measures for safer vessel evacuation.

NAREGI is a 5-year Japanese National Grid Project during 2003--2007, whose chief aim is to develop a set of grid middleware to serve as a basis for future e-Science. NAREGI also aims to lead the way in standardization of grid middleware, based on the OGSA architecture. Its super-scheduler is based on the proposed OGSA-EMS Architecture, in that it becomes the first working implementation that implements the documented component relationships within the OGSA-EMS architecture document v.l.0. Through the efforts and experience in the design and implementation, it has been confirmed that the documented OGSA-EMS architecture is quite feasible, but will require significant amount of refinement and speed improvements to finalize its detailed specifications. The super-scheduler also supports co-allocation across multiple sites to support automated execution of grid-based MPIs that execute across machines. Such a resource allocation requires sophisticated interactions between the OGSA-EMS components not covered in the current OGSA-EMS architecture, some of which are non-trivial. Overall, job scheduling with OGSA-EMS has proven to not only work, but also that its job allocation and execution time is within reasonable bounds.

AIM To evaluate the psychometric properties of a newly developed questionnaire,known as the gastroesophageal reflux and dyspepsia therapeutic efficacy and satisfaction test(GERD-TEST),in patients with *** Japanese patients with predominant GERD symptoms recruited according to the Montreal definition were treated for 4 wk using a standard dose of proton pump inhibitor(PPI). The GERD-TEST and the Medical Outcome Study Short Form-8 Health Survey(SF-8) were administered at baseline and after 4 wk of treatment. The GERD-TEST contains three domains: the severity of GERD and functional dyspepsia(FD) symptoms(5 items),the level of dissatisfaction with daily life(DS)(4 items),and the therapeutic efficacy as assessed by the patients and medication compliance(4 items).RESULTS A total of 290 patients were eligible at baseline; 198 of these patients completed 4 wk of PPI therapy. The internal consistency reliability as evaluated using the Cronbach's α values for the GERD,FD and DS subscales ranged from 0.75 to 0.82. The scores for the GERD,FD and DS items/subscales were significantly correlated with the physical and mental component summary scores of the SF-8. After 4 wk of PPI treatment,the scores for the GERD items/subscales were greatly reduced,ranging in value from 1.51 to 1.87 and with a large effect size(P < 0.0001,Cohen's d; 1.29-1.63). Statistically significant differences in the changes in the scores for the GERD items/subscales were observed between treatment responders and non-responders(P < 0.0001).CONCLUSION The GERD-TEST has a good reliability,a good convergent and concurrent validity,and is responsive to the effects of treatment. The GERD-TEST is a simple,easy to understand,and multifaceted PRO instrument applicable to both clinical trials and the primary care of GERD patients.

The possible final states for the decay K^0→ π＋π-π^0 have isospinI = 0, 1, 2, and 3. TheI= 0 andI= 2states have CP = ＋1 and Ks can decay into them without violating CP symmetry, but they are expected to be strongly suppressed by centrifugal barrier effects. The I = 1 and I = 3 states, which have no centrifugal barrier, have CP = -1 so that the Ks decay to these requires CP violation.
