Two 500 m deep investigation shafts were excavating in the granite body in Mizunami, central Japan by JAEA (Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute) in 2004-2012. Groundwater with volume of 700 m3 was generally pumping a day to prevent the shafts from submerging in 2012 following the excavating. As a result of pumping the groundwater, the ground water level lowered to 60 m in the borehole with the distance of 200 m from the excavating shafts in 2012. Leveling network extending 2 km × 2 km around the shafts was established to detect the vertical deformation around the shafts in 2004, and precise leveling was done every year. An 18 mm ground subsidence was detected in the benchmark close to the shafts for 8 years in 2004-2012, and time series of subsidence at benchmark was consistent with the groundwater drawdown. The groundwater drawdown and ground subsidence were caused by the pumping ground water in excavating shafts.

Glioblastoma without Remarkable Contrast Enhancement on Magnetic Resonance Imaging

This is the report of a histological and clinical investigation of 4 cases of glioblastoma, a rare tumor, in whom poor contrast enhancement of the tumor was visualized on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Among the 94 patients with first-occurrence glioblastoma treated between January 2000 and August 2011, 4 were enrolled in this retrospective study. There were 2 men and 2 women, ranging in age from 41 to 70 years (mean, 57 years). All the patients underwent tumor resection, postoperative irradiation, and chemotherapy. One died of local tumor recurrence after 36 months;the remaining three remain alive as of 25 to 72 months after the initial treatment. The histopathology was glioblastoma with nuclear pleomorphism and pseudopalisading necrosis in all cases. However, the typical vascular endothelial proliferation was not found in 3 cases. All glioblastomas were immunopositive for p53 and immunonegative for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1). These glioblastomas showing unclear contrast enhancement on MRI had similar clinical and pathological characteristics, but differed in characteristics from glioblastoma patients showing marked contrast enhancement of the tumor on MRI.

Thin films of amorphous germanium carbon (a-GeC) and microcrystalline germanium carbon (μc-GeC) were deposited by Hotwire CVD technque. Monomethylgermane and hydrogen were used as source gases during the deposition of these films. Optical properties of these films were characterized by photothermal deflection spectroscopy. Optical absorption spectra of a-GeC and μc-GeC thin films shifted up to the higher energy side compared with amorphous germanium and crystal germanium. The Tauc gap of a-GeC thin films is found to be 1.45 eV, and the absorption spectra of μc-GeC thin films is shifted up by 0.3 eV. The Urbach energy of a-GeC and μe-GeC films are found to be 82meV and 79meV, respectively.

The possible role of submandiblular glands (SMG) in the development of obesity was studied in two types of genetically obese mice, ob/ob and yellow Ay: Obesity is caused by hyperplasia followed by hypertrophy in ob/ob mice and mainly by hypertrophy in Ay *** histological features of SMGs exhibited clear sexual dimorphism in both mice similarto lean controls. The SMGs of ob/ob mice was smaller in size and had smaller granular convoluted tubular portions than lean controls, while the SMGs of Ay mice did not differ from lean controls. Sialoadenectomy before and after development of obesity gCnerally reduced the gain of body weights in both sexes of Ay mice but not in ob/ob mice. The content of epidermal growth factor (EGF) in the SMGs was higher in Ay mice and lower in ob/ob mice than their controls. The possible role of EGF in the SMGs in the development of obesity is discussed

A Literature Review on the State of High School Sex Education Implemented by School Nurses

Objective: In recent years, increases in sexually transmitted infections, cervical cancer caused by HPV, and abortions due to unwanted pregnancy among those in their 20s have become serious issues that threaten fertility. This study aims to identify issues in need of attention and the difficulties experienced by school nurses in teaching sex education in high schools preemptively before these students become sexually active in order to promote responsible sexual behaviors for the prevention of STIs. Method: ICHUSHI Web Ver. 5 and CiNii were queried for literature published between 2000 and May 2022. Search terms were “yōgokyōyu” [school nurses], “seikyōiku” [sex education], “seikansenshō” [sexually transmitted infections/diseases], and “kōkōsei” [high school students]. In addition, we limited the search to Japanese literature only, due to differences in cultural background and the roles of school nurses. Results & Observations: Sex education is taught by multiple faculty members and implemented into multiple subjects such as health & physical education and home economics. There are differences in the content taught by school nurses and other faculty. As specialists in health and hygienics, school nurses demonstrate high awareness and positive attitudes toward sex education. Additionally, while they play a central role in sex education, they face difficulties due to having no position in school health plans, differences in awareness among faculty, busy schedules, difficulty securing time, and failure to coordinate with other faculty. It is necessary to consider school-wide policies that systematize sex education as a continuous subject. Furthermore, while they have many opportunities to undertake consulting duties on sexuality, there is uncertainty among school nurses on their ability to meet student needs. Therefore, the development of teaching materials and opportunities for school nurses to improve their teaching skills is absolutely essential.

An improved terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase- mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling method for the quantification of DNA damage in tissues and cultured cells was developed. Many reports have revealed that histochemistry of DNA damage can be visualized using immunohistochemistry for the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase reaction in tissue sections. However, few reports have described quantification of DNA damage in tissues or cells. In this study, to estimate the degree of DNA damage, the confirmed method for histochemistry using biotinylated dUTP and deoxynucleotidyl transferase was applied to label the cleaved DNA ends caused by DNA damage in tissues or cells. After end-labeling, avidin-conjugated peroxidase was reacted. A significant correlation was observed between numbers of cleaved DNA ends and peroxidase activity after the reaction. The obtained signals for presented method showed higher than those for ordinary method, and correlate with degree of DNA damage caused by serum deprivation and chemical dose. In addition, DNA damage caused by apoptosis in cells treated with 6-hydroxydopamine or Cu and in the tissues of rats administered a diet containing no Zn could be evaluated quantitatively using the present method.

Outcome of Vision Impairment and Diabetes Insipidus in Suprasellar Region Germinoma

Aim: Many cases of suprasellar region germinoma occurs in diabetes insipidus (DI), but a patient initially may come to the hospital for the chief complaint of visual impairment. The aim of this study is to determine the etiology of initial symptom presentation and the outcomes of visual impairment and DI in suprasellar region germinoma. Methods: We investigated eleven cases of single lesion suprasellar germinomas that were diagnosed and treated in our hospital. For each, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed. Results: At the hospital visit, decreased visual acuity was found in 5/11 cases, while DI was found in all cases. The decreased visual acuity was improved in 4/5 cases by treatment, but DI improved in only 2/11 cases. In 10 cases, DI occurred earlier than visual impairment. As the initial symptom, visual impairment occurred earlier than DI in only one case and did not improve by treatment. In this case, a pituitary stalk of the normal thickness could be identified by MRI, and the optic nerve was swollen. In ten cases except this case, no significant enlargement of optic nerve was detected, and a swollen pituitary stalk was confirmed. Conclusions: In suprasellar germinomas, it is rare, but the optic nerve can significantly swell at onset, while the pituitary stalk may be intact. In such cases, visual impairment occurs earlier than DI, and visual impairment may not be improved.

石油天然气工业的耐蚀合金(CRAs)设计要考虑腐蚀产物的稳定性。通过电位—pH图,以及FeCO3、氧化物和硫化物溶解度的计算,评价了在CO2 /H2S环境中钢铁表面生成的腐蚀产物的稳定性。在CO2 的环境中,碳钢的局部腐蚀与腐蚀产物FeCO3 的形成有关。含有铁素体-珠光体显微结构的J55钢可以耐CO2 腐蚀,是因为层状渗碳体可以稳固表面形成的腐蚀产物。铬钢是CO2 环境中的耐蚀材料,因为表面能生成黏附性非晶铬氧化物的腐蚀产物。当H2S的含量超过CO2 的分压为100×10 6时的对应含量时,从腐蚀产物FeCO3 和FeS的稳定性来看,其腐蚀就变成H2S的腐蚀类型。在H2S环境中,耐蚀合金腐蚀产物的稳定性与铬的氧化物和硫化物(如FeS,Ni3S2 和MoS2 )的生成有关。

Anomalous origin of the right coronary artery is a rare congenital anomaly, but is associated with sudden death. Originating from the opposite sinus of Valsalva, an interarterial?course and an intramural course are especially considered as the risk factor for fatal cardiac events. Surgical indication remains controversial because many patients are asymptomatic. A 52-year-old man with anomalous origin of the right coronary artery with an interarterial?course concomitant with the left main trunk disease was resuscitated from cardiopulmonary arrest. It was likely to be attributed to the left main trunk disease, but anatomical structure of the right coronary artery suggests its possible involvement. Prophylactic bypass grafting for the right coronary artery was performed using saphenous vein graft without ligating native vessel to prevent future cardiac events, as well as revascularization of the left main trunk disease. All grafts were patent in one-year follow-up coronary angiography. Any cardiac event has not occurred.

本文试图将东亚传统社会的特征理解为"小农社会",旨在不依赖封建制等西方概念,从东亚固有的特征去理解东亚传统社会,同时以新视角去理解儒学、朱子学和社会构造的关系。儒学、朱子学一直以来被视为东亚传统社会的共通点,但学界对于为何朱子学不仅在中国,而且在朝鲜和日本也成为支配性思想这一问题却没有展开充分的探讨。本文试图结合东亚三国的统治阶层——士大夫、两班、武士的存在形态对该问题进行阐释。随着16—18世纪东亚地区集约型稻作技术的确立,作为生产主体的小农经营逐渐形成,小农经营的普遍化又导致了统治阶层与农业生产的分离。朱子学在朝鲜和日本获得统治理念的地位,与统治阶层的这一变化有紧密联系。小农社会不仅成为我们今天所谓"东亚传统"的核心部分,在19—20世纪的"近代化"过程中也维持了生命力。从这一意义出发长时段地考察东亚社会的历史,可知其最大的分水岭并不是"近代化"的前后,而是小农社会形成的前后。
