AIM To examine whether second generation of colon capsule endoscopy(CCE-2) is acceptable for assessing the severity of mucosal inflammation and evaluating mucosal healing using CCE-2 is able to predict outcome in ulcerative colitis(UC) patients, especially in clinical *** A total of 30 consecutive UC patients in clinical remission were enrolled to undergo CCE-2. Clinical remission was defined as clinical activity index(CAI) ≤ 4 according to Rachmilewitz index. The rate of total colon observation and colon cleansing level were evaluated. Severity of mucosal inflammation in UC was assessed according to the Mayo endoscopic subscore(MES) and Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity(UCEIS). Relapsefree survival was assessed. Acceptability of CCE-2 was assessed using a questionnaire *** The rate of total colon observation within its battery life was 93.3%. The proportion of "excellent" plus "good" cleansing level was 73.3%. The rate of mucosal healing(MES 0, 1) assessed by CCE-2 was 77.0%. The relapse-free survival rate was significantly higher in MES 0, 1 than in MES 2, 3(P = 0.0435), and in UCEIS 0-3 than in UCEIS 4-8(P = 0.0211), whereas there was no significant difference between CAI 0 and CAI 1-4 groups. A questionnaire survey revealed an overall acceptability of *** CCE-2 is acceptable for assessing the severity of mucosal inflammation in UC patients, especially in clinical remission. Evaluating mucosal healing using CCE-2 was able to predict outcome.

AIM:To clarify the association between a polymorphism-449 C>G(rs72696119) in 5'-UTR of NFKB1 with ulcerative colitis(UC).METHODS:The studied population comprised 639 subjects,including patients with UC(UC cases,n = 174) and subjects without UC(controls,n = 465).We employed polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism to detect the gene ***:The rs72696119 G allele frequencies in controls and UC cases were 33.4% and 38.5%,respectively(P = 0.10).Genotype frequency of the GG homozygote in UC cases was significantly higher than that in controls(P = 0.017),and the GG homozygote was significantly associated with susceptibility to UC [odds ratio(OR),1.88;95%CI,1.13-3.14].In male subjects,the GG homozygote was associated with an increased risk for UC(OR,3.10;95%CI,1.47-6.54;P = 0.0053),whereas this association was not found in female *** addition,the GG homozygote was significantly associated with the risk of non-continuous disease(OR,2.06;95%CI,1.12-3.79;P = 0.029),not having total colitis(OR,2.40;95%CI,1.09-3.80,P = 0.040),disease which developed before 20 years of age(OR,2.80;95%CI,1.07-7.32,P = 0.041),no hospitalization(OR,2.28;95%CI,1.29-4.05;P = 0.0090) and with a maximum of 8 or less on the UCDAI score(OR,2.45;95%CI,1.23-4.93;P = 0.022).CONCLUSION:Our results provide evidence that NFKB1 polymorphism rs72696119 was significantly associated with the development of *** polymorphism influences the susceptibility to and pathophysiological features of UC.

This paper presents small-signal study based on eigenvalue analysis as a preliminary study to observe the interaction between multimass turbine-generator system and inverter-based distributed generation in a microgrid. The multimass turbine model is included in the overall distributed generation system model. Two case studies are demonstrated to observe the interaction between turbine-generator set and power electronics-based distributed generation system. Both case studies are in stand-alone and grid-connected operation. It can be shown that under stand-alone operation, unstable oscillatory modes may occur and be highly influenced by the operating points of the system.

To investigate whether single nucleotide polymorphisms in maf protein K (MAFK), which encodes the MAFK, lead to increased susceptibility to ulcerative colitis in the Japanese population. METHODSThis case control study examined the associations between MAFK single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs4268033 G>A, rs3735656 T>C and rs10226620 C>T) and ulcerative colitis susceptibility in 174 patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) cases, and 748 subjects without no lower abdominal symptoms, diarrhea or hematochezia (controls). In addition, as the second controls, we set 360 subjects, who have an irregular bowel movement without abnormal lower endoscopic findings (IBM controls). RESULTSThe genotype frequency of rs4268033 AA and allelic frequency of the rs4268033A allele were significantly higher in the UC cases than in both controls (P = 0.0005 and < 0.0001, P = 0.015 and 0.0027 vs controls and IBM controls, respectively). Logistic regression analysis after adjustment for age and gender showed that the rs4268033 AA and rs3735656 CC genotypes were significantly associated with susceptibility to UC development (OR = 2.63, 95%CI: 1.61-4.30, P = 0.0001 and OR = 1.81; 95%CI: 1.12-2.94, P = 0.015, respectively). Similar findings were observed by the comparison with IBM controls. In addition, the rs4268033 AA genotype was significantly associated with all phenotypes of UC except early onset. There was no significant association between rs10226620 and ulcerative colitis. CONCLUSIONOur results provide the first evidence that MAFK genetic polymorphisms are significantly associated with susceptibility to UC development. In particular, rs4268033 is closely associated with an increased risk for the development of UC.

Power electronic interface of dispersed generation plays a very important role in connecting a dispersed generation with utility grids. A power electronic interface not only adjusts the amount of active and reactive power injecting into a grid but also implements other importance duties as well. In this study, negative-sequence current injection has been fulfilled in three-phase power electronic interface for two important duties besides injecting reference power into utility grids. The first one is for islanding detection, and the other one is to enhance unbalance-fault ride-through capability of dispersed generation. This paper introduces a mechanism of negative-sequence injection based on controlling two separate coordinates of dq-control and explains the effect of negative-sequence injection in limiting the unbalanced currents generated from a dispersed generation. Using adaptive notch filter as a signal processing unit for the three-phase system, negative-sequence components are observed. The performance of entire control system is evaluated by time domain simulations, PSCAD/EMTDC （power systems computer aided design/electromagnetic transients including DC）.

Angiodysplasia Presenting with Multiple Polypoid Lesions: An Unusual Cause of Small Bowel Obstruction

Angiodysplasia (AD), a morphologic vascular abnormality, is a common cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. We present a rare case of polypoid AD lesions. Three years after treatment for adhesive bowel obstruction, a 57-year-old man was admitted with recurrent abdominal distension, anorexia, and lower extremity edema. Computed tomography showed his dilated proximal and collapsed distal small bowel loops had disparate calibers. The transition point demonstrated mucosal enhancement and mesenteric lymphadenopathy. We observed small intestinal wall outpouching with strong mucosal enhancement and polypoid lesions dotting the dilated intestine. Intraoperative findings revealed a hard but elastic intraluminal nodule causing small bowel obstruction and the outpouching’s occurrence on the ileum’s antimesenteric border. We performed partial resection of the small intestine involving the nodule and Meckel’s diverticulum. Macroscopically, the nodule, diverticulum, and intestinal mucosa had polypoid lesions. Histopathologically, these lesions had foci within dilated thin- or thick-walled vascular channels in the submucosa, without specific histological abnormalities. These features led to a diagnosis of AD.

The research and development of nanocrystalline(nc) 3C-SiC, SiGeC and GeC thin films for solar cell applications are presented. Hot Wire CVD technique is employed to prepare high quality nc-3C-SiC thin films whose bandgap is 2.2eV. Monomethylsilane and hydrogen are used as reactant gases for the deposition of nc-SiC thin films. N and Al are used as dopants to successfully obtain n and p type nc-3C-SiC thin films. High conductive doped nc-3C-SiC is very attractive for the potential window layer applications in Si thin film and Si heterojunction solar cells. The pin solar cell structures in which all p,i,n layers consist of nc-3C-SiC have been prepared for the first time. A novel Si HIT solar cell with an n-type nc-3C-SiC showed an efficiency of 13.3%. Furthermore, attempts to control the bandgap of nc-3C-SiC are done by incorporating Ge into SiC. Of late, we have succeeded to prepare nc-3C-SiGeC with a Ge content of 2%, which showed about 0.2eV lower absorption spectra compared to that of 3C-SiC.

Herein,we report on the guest-responsive hierarchical self-assembly of dissymmetric cage DC-1 with an intrinsic dipole along its C_(3)-symmetric ***-1 molecules self-assemble into supramolecular columns with themolecular dipoles aligned along the columnar *** by different host-guest interactions of ethyl acetate(EtOAc)and chloroform(CHCl_(3)),the columns are arranged in an antiparallel and parallel fashion,respectively,leading to a switch of the centrosym metric and noncentrosymmetric *** symmetry of themolecular packing of DC-1 molecules of the noncentrosymmetric crystalline phase is therefore broken,producing a supramolecular ferroelectric with second-harmonic generation and piezoelectric *** demonstrate that cages can serve as promising building blocks for the discovery of supramolecular materials with emergent functions and properties,including but not limited to,organic ferroelectrics and nonlinear optics.
