Purpose: To compare heteroduplex analysis with SSCP and to develop a simple and effective method for mutational screening of RB *** and Methods: Leukocyte DNA was prepared from 12 unrelated Japanese patients with hereditary retinoblstoma. PCR combined with simultaneous nonisotopic heteroduplex and SSCP analysis was used to screen leukocyte DNA for such mutations, exon-by-exon, without the use of restriction endonu-clease digestion. PCR was conducted using 28 pairs of primers flanking all 27 ex-ons and the promoter region of the RB gene, with PCR products ranging from 159bp to 326bp. Mutations were identified by ***: Heterozygous germline mutations were detected in 8 of 12 Japanese patients. Retinobiastoma is a highly malignant intraocular tumor of children that requires accurate diagnosis to prompt treatment. This article reviewed clinical, pathological and follow-up data on 1 147 cases of retinobiastoma registered in Japan from 1975 to 1982. It is obvious that the prognosis of children with retinobiastoma has improved remarkably in recent years. The current advances in the management of the retinobiastoma were discussed.

Purpose: To disclose the structure of visual pigment gene for a protanopia with specific ***: Exon 5 fragments of the red andgreen visual pigment genes from the protanopia with specific varnation as well as controls were amplified by poly-merase chain reaction (PCR). The PCR products were put through heteroduplex-SSCP analysis and PCR-RFLP (restriction fragement length polymorphism) analysis to clarify the specific variation. The specific variation of the exon 5 DNA fragment from the protanopia was identified by ***: A novel 5’green-3’red hybrid gene fragment without the normal red and green visual pigment gene was discovered in the protanopia. He should only have a single visual pigment gene, 5’green-3’red hybrid gene, on his X chromosome. The fusion point is between codon 285 and codon 296 in exon 5. The objective of this study is to show the effect of guide vane geometry on the performance. In order to overcome the disadvantages of vertical axis wind turbine, a straight-bladed vertical axis wind turbine （S-VAWT） with a directed guide vane row has been proposed and tested by the authors. According to previous studies, it was clarified that the performance of the turbine can be improved by means of the directed guide vane row. However, the guide vane geometry of S-VAWT has not been optimized so far. In order to clarify the effect of guide vanegeometry, the effects of setting angle and gap between rotor blade and guide vane on power coefticlent and start- ing characteristic were investigated in the experiments. The experimental study of the proposed wind turbine was carried out by a wind tunnel. The wind tunnel with a diameter of 1.8m is open jet type. The wind velocity is 8 m/s in the experiments. The rotor has three straight blades with a profile of NACA0018 and a chord length of 100 mm, a diameter of 0.6 m and a blade height of 0.7 m. The guide vane row consists of 3 arc plates.

The effect of transition elements on grain refinement of 7475 aluminum alloy sheets produced by warm rolling was investigated. The alloy which contains zirconium instead of chromium showed ultra fine structures with stable subgrains after warm rolling at 350 ℃, followed by solution heat treatment at 480 ℃. The average subgrain diameter was approximately 3 pan. It became clear that zirconium in solution has the effect of stabilizing subgrains due to precipitation of fine Al3Zr compounds during warm rolling. On the other hand, chromium-bearing compounds precipitate before warm rolling and they grow up to relatively large size during warm rolling. The warm rolled sheets with fine subgrains have unique properties compared with conventional 7475 aluminum alloy sheets produced by cold rolling. The warm roiled sheets solution heat treated had subgrain structures through the thickness with a high proportion of low-angle boundary less than 15°. The strength of the warm rolled sheets in T6 condition was about 10% higher than that of conventional 7475 aluminum alloy sheets. As the most remarkable point in the warm rolled sheets, the high Lankford （r） value of 3.5 was measured in the orientation of 45° to rolling direction, with the average r-value of 2.2. The high r-value would be derived from well developed r-fiber textures, especially with the strong {011 }（211） brass component. The warm rolled sheets also had high resistance to SCC. From Kikuchi lines analysis and TEM images, it was found that PFZs were hardly formed along the low- angle boundaries of the warm rolled sheets in T6 condition. This would be a factor to lead to the improvement of resistance to SCC because of reducing the difference in electrochemical property between the grain boundary area and the grain interior.

AIM To compare the outcomes of endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) for gastric neoplasms using Clutch Cutter(ESD-C) or other knives(ESD-O).METHODS This was a single-center retrospective study. Gastric neoplasms treated by ESD between April 2016 and October 2017 at Kitakyushu Municipal Medical Center were reviewed. Multivariate analyses and propensity score matching were used to reduce biases. Covariates included factors that might affect outcomes of ESD, including age, sex, underlying disease, anti-thrombotic drugs use, tumor location, tumor position, tumor size, tumor depth, tumor morphology, tumor histology, ulcer(scar), and operator skill. The treatment outcomes were compared among two groups. The primary outcome was ESD procedure time. Secondary outcomes were en bloc, complete, and curative resection rates, and adverse events rates including perforation and delayed *** A total of 155 patients were included in this study; 44 pairs were created by propensity score matching. Background characteristics were quite similar among two groups after matching. Procedure time was significantly shorter for ESD-C(median; 49 min) than for ESD-O(median; 88.5 min)(P < 0.01). However, there was no significant difference in treatment outcomes between ESD-C and ESD-O including en bloc resection rate(100% in both groups), complete resection rate(100% in both groups), curative resection rate(86.4% vs 88.6%, P = 0.730), delayed bleeding(2.3% vs 6.8%, P = 0.62) and perforation(0% in both groups).CONCLUSION ESD-C achieved shorter procedure time without an increase in complication risk. Therefore, ESD-C could become an effective ESD option for gastric neoplasms.
