A new Dicroglossid species is described from Mawphlang,Meghalaya,northeastern India. The new species differs from all the congeners occurring in this region in body size and call characteristics. It is larger than Fejervarya syhadrensis and F. nepalensis,but smaller than F. teraiensis. It overlaps F. pierrei in snout-vent length,but clearly differs from it in advertisement call,with much shorter note duration,much longer inter note interval,and much lower dominant frequency. Paucity of genetic information and underestimation of species diversity in this region are discussed.

Fanged frogs, now called Limnonectes kuhlii, from Borneo are remotely related to true Javanese L. kuhliL For future taxonomy of Bornean fanged frogs, we fix the nomenclatural status of two existing names, Rana conspicillata Giunther, 1872 and Rana paradoxa Mocquard, 1890. Morphological comparison of the type-series revealed heterospecific relationships of the two species. For R. conspicillata, we designate BMNH 1947.***.29.20 as the lectotype, and for R. para doxa, we also designate MNHN 1889.222 as the lectotype and propose a replacement name Limnonectes mocquardi, in order to stabilize their nomenclature.

We conducted molecular phylogenetic analyses of Japanese Rhacophorus species, especially of R. schlegelii and R. arboreus from the mainland, based on samples encompassing their known distribution ranges, and discussed about evolutionary history of Rhacophorus species within Japan. The common ancestor of Japanese Rhacophorus, except for R. owstoni from southern Ryukyus, was estimated to have diverged from a lineage occurring mainly in China about 7 MYBP. Both R. schlegelii and R. arboreus are genetically largely divergent between regions of eastern and western Japan, and this seems to have been promoted mainly by retreat to refugia. Retreats of the two species to different refugia sometimes in the past seem to have led restricted distribution of R. schlegelii in eastern and R. arboreus in western Japan, and brought their intraspecific variation patterns in morphology and breeding habit.

Effect of dissolved oxygen on methane production from bottom sediment in a eutrophic stratified lake

Clarifying the role of sulfate and dissolved oxygen (DO) in methane production may allow for precise and accurate modeling of methane emissions in eutrophic lakes.We conducted field observations of sulfate,methane,and DO concentrations in Lake Abashiri,a typical brackish and eutrophic lake in a cold region,to develop a DO-based method for quantitively estimating methane production in a eutrophic lake and analyzed the results.We found that sulfate concentrations decreased rapidly from 900.0 mg/L in water overlying the sediments to nearly 0.0 mg/L in the bottom sediment.Methane production was almost uniform across sediment depths of 0.05 to 0.25 m,ranging from 1400 to 1800μmol/m^(2)/day.Also,methane production was found to be a function of DO concentrations in water overlying the bottom and could be modeled by a logistic function:constant production at 1,400μmol/m^(2)/day for DO concentrations of 0.0 to 3.0 mg/L,rapidly decreasing to 0μmol/m^(2)/day for DO concentrations of 3.0 to 6.0 mg/L.This methane model was verified using a simple one-dimensional numerical model that showed good agreement with field observations.Our results thus suggest that the proposed methane model reduces uncertainty in estimating methane production in a eutrophic lake.

OpenPose(OP)and DeepLabCut(DLC)are applications that use deep learning to estimate posture,but there are few reports on the reliability,validity,and accuracy of their 2D lower limb joint motion analysis.This study compared OP and DLC estimates of lower extremity joint angles in standing movements with those of conventional software.A total of nine healthy men participated.The trial task was to stand up from a chair.The motion was recorded by a digital camera,and the joint angles of the hip and knee joints were calculated from the video using OP,DLC,and Kinovea.To confirm reliability and validity,ICC was calculated using the Kinovea value as the validity criterion and the correlation coefficient between OP and DLC.In addition,the agreement between those data was evaluated by the Bland-Altman plot.To evaluate the accuracy of the data,root means square error(RMSE)was calculated and compared for each joint.Although the correlation coefficients and ICC(2,1)were in almost perfect agreement,fixed and proportional errors were found for most joints.The RMSE was smaller for OP than for DLC.Compared to Kinovea,OP and DLC can estimate the joint angles of the hip and knee joints during the stand-up movement with an estimation error of fewer than 10,but since they are affected by the resolution of the analysis video and other factors,they need to be validated in a variety of environments and with a variety of movements.

Atezolizumab plus bevacizumab is currently the main choice of first-line treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),which has been proven superior to sorafenib for overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS)in the phase III IMbrave150 trial(1).Up-data analysis from IMbrave150 showed that the median OS was 19.2 months for atezolizumab plus bevacizumab and 13.4 months for sorafenib[hazard ratio(HR)=0.66;95%confidence interval(CI):0.52-0.85;P=0.0009],and the median PFS was 6.9 and 4.3 months(HR=0.65;95%CI:0.53-0.81;P=0.0001)(2).

The development of vehicle integrated photovoltaics-powered electric vehicles (VIPV-EV) significantly reduces CO2 emissions from the transport sector to realize a decarbonized society. Although long-distance driving of VIPV-EV without electricity charging is expected in sunny regions, driving distance of VIPV-EV is affected by climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules. In this paper, detailed analytical results for effects of climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules upon driving distance of the VIPV-EV were presented by using test data for Toyota Prius and Nissan Van demonstration cars installed with high-efficiency InGaP/GaAs/InGaAs 3-junction solar cell modules with a module efficiency of more than 30%. The temperature rise of some PV modules studied in this study was shown to be expressed by some coefficients related to solar irradiation, wind speed and radiative cooling. The potential of VIPV-EV to be deployed in 10 major cities was also analyzed. Although sunshine cities such as Phoenix show the high reduction ratio of driving range with 17% due to temperature rise of VIPV modules, populous cities such as Tokyo show low reduction ratio of 9%. It was also shown in this paper that the difference between the driving distance of VIPV-EV driving in the morning and the afternoon is due to PV modules’ radiative cooling. In addition, the importance of heat dissipation of PV modules and the development of high-efficiency PV modules with better temperature coefficients was suggested in order to expand driving range of VIPV-EV. The effects of air-conditioner usage and partial shading in addition to the effects of temperature rise of VIPV modules were suggested as the other power losses of VIPV-EV.

Background:Phenylketonuria(PKU)is caused by a defect in phenylalanine hydroxylase(PAH).More than 500 mutations have been reported for the gene encoding PAH.However,approximately l%-5%of these include large deletions and large duplications that cannot be detected by conventional methods.Methods:In this report we tried to fully characterize a PAH-deficient patient.The patient was a 2-year-old Japanese boy who was diagnosed with classical PKU at the time of neonatal screening,which was confirmed by the tetrahydrobiopterin-loading test.PCR-related direct sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification(MLPA)were used to analyze of the PAH of the patient.Results:Using PCR-related direct sequencing method,we could detect only a heterozygous novel missense mutation:p.136G>C(p.G46R).A second mutation was detected by MLPA.The patient was heterozygous for a novel large deletion of exons 12 and 13:c.1200-?_1359+?del(EX12_13del).For genetic counseling,an accurate genetic diagnosis is often necessary.Conclusions:Through a combination of MLPA and conventional methods,the success rate of PAH mutation identification can be close to 100%.

Corticospinal activity during a single-leg stance in people with chronic ankle instability

Purpose:The aim of the study was to determine whether corticospinal excitability and inhibition of the tibialis anterior during single-leg standing differs among individuals with chronic ankle instability(CAI),lateral ankle sprain copers,and healthy controls.Methods:Twenty-three participants with CAI,23 lateral ankle sprain copers,and 24 healthy control participants volunteered.Active motor threshold(AMT),normalized motor-evoked potential(MEP),and cortical silent period(CSP)were evaluated by transcranial magnetic stimulation while participants performed a single-leg standing task.Results:Participants with CAI had significantly longer CSP at 100%of AMT and lower normalized MEP at 120%of AMT compared to lateral ankle sprain copers(CSP100%:p=0.003;MEP120%:p=0.044)and controls(CSP100%:p=0.041;MEP120%:p=0.006).Conclusion:This investigation demonstrate altered corticospinal excitability and inhibition of the tibialis anterior during single-leg standing in participants with CAI.Further research is needed to examine the effects of corticospinal maladaptations to motor control of the tibial anterior on postural control performance in those with CAI.
