Background: E. persicus which is well-known as Shakarook in local Persian botany and is extensively utilized in different parts of in Iran. Materials and methods: Essential oils from the aerial parts of Echinops persicus were isolated using hydrodistillation (HD) and microwave assisted hydrodistillation (MAHD) methods and the respective chemical profiles were analyzed by means of GC-MS technique. The in vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of methanol extracts of E. persicus were investigated via using 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay as well as agar well-diffusion methods. The minimun inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the methanol extracts of E. persicus against the test microorganisms were determined by the broth microdilution method. Results: GC-MS essential oils analysis shows 29 and 36 compounds constituting 91.9% and 98.2% of the total oils using HD and MAHD methods, respectively. Furthermore, the methanol extracts of E. persicus exhibited higher DPPH radical scavenging activity than vitamin C with an IC50 value of 0.42 ± 0.16 μg/mL. Moreover, the prepared methanol extracts preliminarily showed promising antimicrobial activities against S. aureus with the MIC value of 6.2 mg/mL. Conclusion: This study confirms that the methanol extract of E. persicus plant exhibits considerable antioxidant and antimicrobial properties in vitro.

Viral hepatitis is a global threat to public health and one of the leading causes of death ***,acute viral cases in children and adults are associated with viral hepatitis A,B,C,D and E,or co-infection with two types of *** with these viruses is a global health problem and continuous efforts are in place to identify infected people through targeted screening,preventing new infections through vaccination,monitoring and treating people at risk for complications of all types of *** aim of this study was to determine the evaluate the prevalence and trends of hepatitis B and C infection in the Nahavand city during 5 consecutive years(2013–2017).The total number of patients with hepatitis B and C was 141 persons from March 2013 to March 2017,of these,101 had hepatitis B,and 40 had hepatitis *** prevalence of hepatitis B and C was higher in men than *** percentage frequency hepatitis B in the city in the last five years was 0.05 percent.11 cases(10.89%)pregnant women and Six cases(5.9%)receiving blood(blood transfusions)in Hepatitis B was *** prevalence of hepatitis C was 0.2%at the end of *** study on the cause of hepatitis C in Nahavand has shown that 21(52.5%)of the total of 40 people were infected with *** interesting point in this report is that according to reports from viral hepatitis testing questionnaires,24 of 101 people with type B hepatitis have 23.7%of people with a history of complete vaccination of hepatitis B and one person(0.9%)had incomplete vaccination.A significant relationship was found between the level of education and the prevalence of hepatitis(P=0.005).

Background: Congenital hypothyroidism is the result of a reduction in thyroid hormone production or a decrease in the activity of thyroid hormone receptors and is one of the most preventable causes of mental retardation, deafness, and heart problems in the world. This study aimed to compare the prevalence of congenital hypothyroidism between Nahavand in the west of Iran and Kashmar in the east of Iran during the years 2016 2017. Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study on neonates born in April 2016 to March 2018 in two cities of Nahavand and Kashmar. A few drops of blood from a baby's heel in 3 5 birthdays on a special filter paper (S & S903) became blood samples from the pelvic floor were filtered and dried. The valuation of the samples was performed by the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay method by evaluating the thyroid stimulating hormone. Premature infants, underweight (less than 2,500 grams), a weight of over 4 kg, multiple births, or newborns requiring blood transfusions or any newborn needed to be retaken to the test after two weeks. Results: In the city of Nahavand, the incidence of neonatal hypothyroidism in the years 2016 and 2017 were 6.7 and 9.09 per 1,000 live births. And for the city of Kashmar, this number increased to 5.6 and 4.3 per 1,000 births in 2016 and 2017, respectively. The mean rate of participation in the screening program in the first 3 5 days of birth in Nahavand during two years was 2016 and 2017 to 78.7% and in Kashmar about 94%, which indicates the higher participation of Kashmar. In the city of Nahavand, 64.6% of cases of hypothyroidism reported in boys' neonates and 51.5% of male children in the Kashmar city. Conclusion: The results of our survey indicates that the prevalence of hypothyroidism is high in both Kashmar in eastern Iran and Nahavand in western Iran. Especially in Nahavand city of western Iran, where the prevalence of hypothyroidism is higher than global and internal statistics. Further surveys are required

Background:Considering the need and importance of a comprehensive study of the disease of COVID-19,this research investigated the epidemiology of COVID-19 in Nahavand,a western city of Iran,from March 2020 to the end of the *** ***:This study is a retrospective *** on the epidemiology of COVID-19 was collected by the Infectious Diseases Department of the Nahavand Health Center.A logistic regression model was used to estimate the *** data in this study were analyzed using SPSS version 16 *** presented statistics related to referrals to health centers with the result of a positive RT-PCR ***:The RT-PCR test was positive in 3544 patients and the average age of the patients was 47 years,also 49.4%of patients(n=1753)were *** eight percent of adult deaths occurred in people over 60 years old and 56.29%in *** of all the patients,27.12 percent had an underlying disease that 6.7%*** deaths of children under 12 and pregnant women were *** association between travel history,patient contacts,underlying disease and pregnancy for COVID-19 was significant(P<0.001).Conclusion:The most important point to mention in this study is the effect of increasing age,underlying disease and male gender on increasing hospitalization and death due to *** 1.77%of Nahavand residents fell ill with COVID-19 in a defined period of *** than 95%of patients were older than 20 years.

Background:Medicinal herbs have always been closely associated with human beings,and no one deny their medicinal effects and *** are over 7,500 plant species in the rich flora of *** study,intends to investigate the anti-bacterial properties of three different plant species from Iranian flora,including Echinops persicus,Cardamine uliginosa,and Vaccaria oxyodontha *** and methods:This cross-sectional study was performed after confirmation and identification of collected *** plants were dried in the shade for *** the methanol extract of these plants was extracted by the classical extraction *** plants’antimicrobial effects of the plants were evaluated by agar disk diffusion,minimum inhibitory concentration,and minimum bactericidal *** mentioned plants’anti-bacterial activity was compared with the antibiotic discs of gentamicin(10 mg)and vancomycin(30 mg).SPSS software v20 was used for data analysis of Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn’s tests(P<0.05).Results:The lowest minimum inhibitory concentration obtained from the methanol extract of Cardamine uliginosa on standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli at 15.62 mg/mL for methanol extracts of Echinops persicus and Vaccaria oxyodontha Boiss on *** and *** at 31.25 mg/mL and 125 mg/mL,*** highest diameter of inhibition zone caused by methanol extract of Cardamine uiliginosa was against *** and *** with an inhibition zone of 23.9±0.29 mm and 20.4±0.43 mm,*** with the antibiotics gentamicin and vancomycin,the Cardamine uliginosa showed a stronger inhibitory effect(P<0.05).Conclusion:Echinops persicus,Cardamine uliginosa,and Vaccaria oxyodontha Boiss have anti-bacterial *** anti-bacterial property of Cardamine uilignosa is higher than the other two herbal medicine.

Energy Management Strategies for Modern Electric Vehicles Using MATLAB/Simulink

The paper describes the various energy management techniques that can be implemented for a modern electric vehicle by using MATLAB/SimuUnk. The Renault Twizy vehicle is considered for MATLAB simulation. Regenerative braking technique is discussed, in which the kinetic energy is converted to electricity to charge the battery of the vehicle when the brakes are applied or when the vehicle is moving down the hill. A solar photovoltaic （PV） on the roof-top of the vehicle is implemented to charge the battery used in the vehicle. The simulation results are highlighted and energy management strategies are presented. The results showed that the speed control of direct current （DC） motor during the motoring mode and regenerative braking mode was successfully achieved by using a bi-directional DC-DC converter and a proportional-integral （PI） controller at various reference speeds set by the user by applying a variable load torques to the motor. The size of solar PV on roof-top of the vehicle was found to be 280 W that charged the 48 V battery of the vehicle by using a bi-directional DC-DC converter, which was evaluated by using MATLAB/Simulink.

This paper reports a wind-powered water pumping system implemented in rural side of Pakistan. The design methodology presented in this paper shah enhance the efficiency of the existing Savonius turbine＇s performance by modifying it aerodynamically. Blades with different twist angles are designed in Solid Edge and analyzed using computational fluid dynamics （CFD） with ANSYS FLUENT software. Static and rotational analyses are performed to get optimized twist angle and results are highlighted. The performances of the turbine in both static and rotational analyses are compared.
