Protective Roles of Shilajit in Modulating Resistin,Adiponectin,and Cytokines in Rats with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Objective:To evaluate the effect of Shilajit,a medicine of Ayurveda,on the serum changes in cytokines and adipokines caused by non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Methods:After establishing fatty liver models by feeding a high-fat diet(HFD)for 12 weeks,35 Wistar male rats were randomly divided into5 groups,including control(standard diet),Veh(HFD+vehicle),high-dose Shilajit[H-Sh,HFD+250 mg/(kg·d)Shilajit],low-dose Shilajit[L-Sh,HFD+150 mg/(kg·d)Shilajit],and pioglitazone[HFD+10 mg/(kg·d)pioglitazone]groups,7 rats in each group.After 2-week of gavage administration,serum levels of glucose,insulin,interleukin1 beta(IL-1β),IL-6,IL-10,tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),adiponectin,and resistin were measured,and insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR)was calculated.Results:After NAFLD induction,the serum level of IL-10 significantly increased and serum IL-1β,TNF-αlevels significantly decreased by injection of both doses of Shilajit and pioglitazone(P<0.05).Increases in serum glucose level and homeostasis model of HOMA-IR were reduced by L-Sh and H-Sh treatment in NAFLD rats(P<0.05).Both doses of Shilajit increased adiponectin and decreased serum resistin levels(P<0.05).Conclusion:The probable protective role of Shilajit in NAFLD model rats may be via modulating the serum levels of IL-1β,TNF-α,IL-10,adipokine and resistin,and reducing of HOMA-IR.

The varieties and capabilities of artificial intelligence and machine learning in orthopedic surgery are extensively expanding.One promising method is neural networks,emphasizing big data and computer-based learning systems to develop a statistical fracture-detecting model.It derives patterns and rules from outstanding amounts of data to analyze the probabilities of different outcomes using new sets of similar data.The sensitivity and specificity of machine learning in detecting fractures vary from previous studies.AI may be most promising in the diagnosis of less-obvious fractures that are more commonly missed.Future studies are necessary to develop more accurate and effective detection models that can be used clinically.

Shoulder joint flexibility in top athletes

Joint range of motion (ROM) is very important in daily activities, sport and in clinical diagnosis. Many factors have been reported to influence joint ROM. Musculoskeletal adaptation and some special side effects due to his or her physical demands and movement patterns in professional athletes are very important subjects in sport sciences. The present study is a comparison of shoulder joint ROM in elite athlete and non-athlete groups and its relationship to their age, post and years of their tournament play. The subjects in this study included 106 men with mean age (23.65 ±3.45) and mean years of tournament play (5.60 ±2.23). The groups of subjects included 26 handball players, 25 volleyball players, 25 soccer players and 30 non-athletes. Data were collected through questionnaires and inspection, and subjects’ ROM was measured by “Leighton flex- ometer” (r = 0.90 – 0.99) in external rotation and abduction of shoulder joint in dominant and non-domi- nant hands. Data were analyzed by correlation coefficient, t – test, ANOVA and post hock Schaffe test. The results showed that an increase in age and years of tournament play reduced the shoulder ROM of subjects (p ≤ 0.05). There were significant differences in shoulder ROM among athletic groups. Additionally, there are significant differences between dominant and non-dominant hands (p ≤ 0.05). It can be concluded that more specific stretching exercises and warm-up for shoulder in all athletes and especially in older and experienced players should be performed by coaches. The results also emphasized routine screening, corrective exercise programs and a design of preventing strategies by athletic trainers and coaches.

The present study was carried out for evaluation of Payam Park capacity for recreation projects development.Regarding to increased use of recreation areas and man’s innate need to such places as well as peoples interests in ecotourism,it is necessary to determine and investigate recreation areas for expanding existing facilities.Expanding recreation may cause environmental adverse impacts,and so environmental impacts assessment is necessary.Preparing a general model to assess large natural recreation areas in our country should carried out by paying close attention to all respects of all natural recreation areas.In addition,the plans of all activities,both recreation and environment should be taken into consideration.In order to execute the models in the present study,Payam Park,located in north west of Iran was chosen as a sample and the satellite data were used for maps calculating.The organism in study area were higher plants,soil micro-organisms,collembolla,earth worms,carabid beetles,grasshoppers,hover files,spiders,and birds.Organism groups were sample in order to describe their spatial variability.The environmental impact assessment of different activities in Payam Park showed that the most adverse impacts of construction phase were related to the destruction of the environment and vegetative cover,air and sound pollution and energy consumption.The most adverse impacts of operation phase were destruction of environment and vegetative cover by visitors,energy consumption and sound pollution related to some activities and water pollution.In conclusion,some assessments and land use planning experiments must be carried out before environmental impact assessment in order to decrease the adverse impacts.

This study was conducted in order to changes detection have taken place during the last seven years in Tabriz,Iran.Tabriz is located in central part of Azerbijan-e-Sharqi province of Iran.In this study,the trends of changes in the landscape and green space patterns of the study area were investigated.Land cover maps were provided using the satellite images of a Land sat TM and an IRS LISS-III image during 1989 and 2006.A supervised classification was carried out on six reflective bands for two mentioned images,individually.Cross-classification was also used to produce change detection map in the study area.Results revealed a considerable increase in human buildings as well as degradation of green spaces in the study area.The main causes of land degradation in the study area were conversion of green spaces to bare zones,and bare zones to buildings.It concluded that the study area has been undergone very severe land cover changes as a result of mismanagement and non sustainable development,and so new planning for ecosystem management seems to be necessary.

Stabilizing Effects of Ethanolic Extract of Mastic Gum on Microtubule Polymers:an In Vitro Study

Terpenoids are novel natural products isolated from mastic gum.Mastic gum was obtained from the Pistacia Lentiscus tree.Scientific investigations have documented medical and pharmacological properties of mastic gum such as memory enhancement,antifungal,and antibacterial activities.It was astonishing to study the possible interaction of mastic gum extract with microtubule proteins which are involved in memory and consciousness since the administration of mastic gum is evidenced in the improvement of brain functions.Since a number of studies have demonstrated the effect of microtubule dynamics on mammals'memory,in this study,we investigated the effect of Oxygenated Sesquiterpenes(OST)on microtubule polymerization in vitro.OST was purified from the ethanolic extract of mastic gum.The results revealed that OST induces microtubule polymerization;however,microtubule depolymerization was not affected and fluorometric assays showed conformational changes of tubulin in the presence of OST.We interestingly found that colchicine was unable to inhibit MT assembly in the presence of OST and OST was solely more efficient than the combination of OST with paclitaxel for elevating microtubule polymerization rate.We hope that OST could be a promising agent for memory enhancement and the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases as a novel tubulin-binding compound.

In order to evaluate the allelopathic effects of aqueous extract of pigweed,Amaranthus retroflexus,different organs on germination and growth of wheat,Triticum aestivum cv.Azar2,an experiment was conducted as factorial based on completely randomized design with three replications in laboratory and greenhouse of Islamic Azad University,Miyaneh Branch.Experimental factors comprised pigweed organs at three levels（leaf,root and stem） and aqueous extract of pigweed organs at 2.5,5 and 10% concentrations and distilled water was considered as a control.Traits including germination rate,root and stem length,and fresh and dry weight of wheat seedlings were measured.Results of analysis of variance showed significant effects of extract concentration and pigweed organs interaction on all above mentioned traits,except germination rate.Germination and initial growth of wheat were affected by pigweed organs’ extracts in all studied concentrations.Allopathic effect of pigweed extracts on wheat germination and growth was increased with increasing extract concentration.According to the results,extracts of pigweed different organs showed the same toxic effect on wheat germination rate,stem length and seedling dry weight.However,the most adverse effects of pigweed allelochemicals on root length and dry weight of wheat seedlings were caused by pigweed leaf extract.Based on the results,Azar2 was recognized as very susceptible wheat cultivar to extracts of all weed organs and so,extension of its farming most probably will increase allelopathic induced damage of pigweed to wheat.
