Chronic Viral Hepatitis C: Before and after Direct Acting Antivirals (DAA) in Morocco

For a long time, a combination of interferon and ribavirin has been used to treat viral hepatitis C, but the sustained virological response was only achieved in 45% of cases and side effects were serious [1]. Direct acting antivirals (DAA) have provided a cure for almost everyone with hepatitis C, with few side effects. The Purpose of Our Work is to compare the results of treatment for viral hepatitis C before and after DAA. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study, bringing together all patients with chronic viral hepatitis C treated between January 2009 and March 2020 at the University Hospital Hassan II in Fez, Morocco. The epidemiological, clinical, biological, virological characteristics of the included patients were collected from the two groups: A, treated with interferon and ribavirin or by triple therapy and B, treated with DAA. Results: 162 patients were included, the average age was 55 y/o, with 90 women and 72 men. 88 patients (54.3%) were already cirrhotic, of which 61 were compensated and 27 were decompensated. Genotype 1 was dominant with a frequency of 71.6%, 107 patients (66%) initially treated with old HCV treatments and 55 (34%) treated with DAA. Sustained viral response was obtained in 59 cases (55.14%) in group A versus 54 cases (98.18%) in group B with a very significant difference (p < 0.0001). Treatment failure was observed in 14 patients (13.1%) in group A and only one patient, i.e. 2% in group B (p = 0.019). 14 patients relapsed in group A (13.1%) versus 0 patient in group B (p = 0.003). The tolerance of the treatment was excellent in group B as a whole with only five patients (9%) reported side effects which were minor, not leading to the discontinuation of treatment while the side effects were major in 49 patients (45.7%) in group A with led to the permanent discontinuation of treatment in 6 patients. Anharmonic 1D actuator model including electrostatic and Casimir forces with fractional damping perturbed by an external force

We modeled a one-dimensional actuator including the Casimir and electrostatic forces perturbed by an external force with fractional damping. The movable electrode was assumed to oscillate by an anharmonic elastic force originated from Murrell- Mottram or Lippincott potential. The nonlinear equations have been solved via the Adomian decomposition method. The behavior of the displacement of the electrode from equilibrium position, its velocity and acceleration were described versus time. Also, the changes of the displacement have been investigated according to the frequency of the external force and the voltage of the electrostatic force. The convergence of the Adomian method and the effect of the orders of expansion on the displacement versus time, frequency, and voltage were discussed. The pull-in parameter was obtained and compared with the other models in the literature. This parameter was described versus the equilibrium position and anharmonicity constant.

Forced vibration of smart laminated viscoelastic plates by RPT finite element approach

In this study,a finite element formulation based on the four-variable refined plate theory(RPT)is presented for forced vibration analysis of laminated viscoelastic composite plates integrated with a piezoelectric *** the best of the authors’knowledge,this is the first time that the proposed approach is extended for study of the dynamic behavior of the smart viscoelastic *** utilized RPT which works for both thick and thin plates predicts a parabolic variation for transverse shear stresses across the plate *** a linear viscoelastic model for the substrate material,the relaxation module is predicted by the Prony *** Hamilton’s principle,the weak form equation is constructed and a four-node rectangular plate element is utilized for discretizing the *** Newmark scheme is employed for advancing the solution in time.A MATLAB code is developed based on the formulations and several benchmark problems are *** the findings with existing results in previous studies confirms the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed *** dynamic response of the smart viscoelastic plates under various electromechanical loads is investigated and the results show that *** can be passively controlled by adding and actuating the piezoelectric *** damping effects of viscoelastic parameters on the results are investigated,too.

Substitution of a fraction of zircon by cristobalite in nano hematite encapsulated pigment and examination of glaze application

Hematite pigment has a long history,but it cannot be used for ceramic application,because it must be thermally and chemically stable at high firing temperature when using a pigment in a glaze or ceramic ***,through encapsulated systems,a new pigment with suitable thermal and chemical stability can be obtained by encapsulating hematite crystals into selected silica or zircon *** means that nano-sized red hematite has been encapsulated into the protected *** electron micrographs of hematite encapsulated into silica and zircon matrices by sol-gel method show spherical single crystals with diameter of about 5-10 *** order to optimize ceramic glaze formulations for application of the synthesized red inorganic nanocomposite inclusion pigment by sol-gel method,four different types of glazes(i.e.,alkalis,borate,earth alkalis,and leaded glazes)have been *** results show that the substitution of a fraction of zircon by cristobalite in hematite-zircon pigment produces acceptable stability with red hue.

Reduction of the wind erosion potential in dried-up lakebeds using artificial biocrusts

The artificial creation of biocrusts can be a rapid and pervasive solution to reduce wind erosion potential(WEP)in dried-up lakes(e.g.,Lake Urmia).So,in this study,we created a biocrust by the inoculation of bacteria and cyanobacteria on trays filled by soils collected from the dried-up bed of Lake Urmia,Iran,to reduce WEP in laboratory *** used the wind erodible fraction of soil(EF)and soil crust factor(SCF)equations to calculate the WEP of the treated *** and SCF were decreased(p<0.05)through applying the co-inoculation of bacteria and cyanobacteria by 5.6%and 10.57%,respectively,as compared to the control;also,the"cyanobacteria alone"inoculation decreased EF by 3.9%.Our results showed that the artificial biocrusts created by soil inoculation,especially with the co-using of bacteria and cyanobacteria,significantly reduced the WEP of a newly dried-up ***,we found that inoculation decreased the WEP of the study soil by increasing the soil organic matter content from 3.7 to 5 *** to scanning electron microscopy images,the inoculated microorganisms,especially cyanobacteria,improved soil aggregation by their exopolysaccharides and filaments;thus,they can be used with other factors to estimate the soil erodibility in well-developed *** inoculation technique could be considered as a rapid strategy in stabilizing lakebeds against wind ***,it should be confirmed after additional experiments using wind tunnels under natural conditions.

Phase-controlled field-effect micromixing using AC electroosmosis

The exploration and application of electrokinetic techniques in micro total analysis systems have become ubiquitous in recent years,and scientists are expanding the use of such techniques in areas where comparable active or passive methods are not as *** this work,for the first time,we utilize the concept of AC electroosmosis to design a phase-controlled field-effect micromixer that benefits from a three-finger sinusoidally shaped *** to field-effect transistor devices,the principle of operation for the proposed micromixer is governed by the source-gate and source-drain voltage potentials that are modulated by introducing a phase lag between the driving *** an optimized flow rate and biasing scheme,we demonstrate that the source,gate,and drain voltage phase relations can be configured such that the micromixer switches from an unmixed state(phase shift of 0°)to a mixed state(phase shift of 180°).High mixing efficiencies beyond 90%was achieved at a volumetric flow rate of 4µL/min corresponding to~13.9mm/s at optimized voltage excitation ***,we employed the proposed micromixer for the synthesis of nanoscale lipid-based drug delivery vesicles through the process of electrohydrodynamic-mediated *** phase-controlled electrohydrodynamic mixing utilized for the nanoprecipitation technique proved that nanoparticles of improved monodispersity and concentration can be produced when mixing efficiency is enhanced by tuning the phase shifts between electrodes.

Kink-band Kinematic Analysis and its Implications for Late-stage Deformation in the Internal Parts of the Zagros Collision(Sanandaj–Sirjan Zone) in West Iran

In the internal parts of the Zagros collision zone, several deformation phases have been superimposed. The early deformation phase caused the development of a penetrative foliation. The late-stage deformation phase was preferentially accommodated within shear zones and caused the generation of shear bands, implying a non-coaxial component of deformation, the end of this stage deformation was marked by the development of kink-bands. In the vicinity of Zagros suture zone, the kink angle increased from 40° to 60°, and the kink-bands was converted to chevron folds. In this region, the external(α) and internal(β) angular ratio is α/β ≠ 1 and kink angle increased, and deformation occurred with 10% to 30% volume loss. Farther from the suture zone in the east, α/β = 1;and total volume was constant or increased by 5% to 10%. Kink-bands kinematic analysis in the study area revealed this structures were sensitive to deformation conditions and components such that, with decreasing distance to the Zagros suture zone, shearing and rotation increased, a high kinematic vorticity dominated, and volume loss occurred during deformation.
