The current global warming, coupled with the growing demand for energy in our daily lives, necessitates the development of more efficient and reliable energy storage devices. Lithium batteries (LBs) are at the forefront of emerging power sources addressing these challenges. Recent studies have shown that integrating hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanomaterials into LBs enhances the safety, longevity, and electrochemical performance of all LB components, including electrodes, electrolytes, and separators, thereby suggesting their potential value in advancing eco-friendly energy solutions. This review provides an overview of the most recent applications of h-BN nanomaterials in LBs. It begins with an informative introduction to h-BN nanomaterials and their relevant properties in the context of LB applications. Subsequently, it addresses the challenges posed by h-BN and discusses existing strategies to overcome these limitations, offering valuable insights into the potential of BN nanomaterials. The review then proceeds to outline the functions of h-BN in LB components, emphasizing the molecular-level mechanisms responsible for performance improvements. Finally, the review concludes by presenting the current challenges and prospects of integrating h-BN nanomaterials into battery research. Integrating h-BN into lithium batteries enhances safety, longevity, and mechanical integrity of battery components by mitigating dendritic growth and side reactions. Its high ionic and thermal conductivities improve lithium transference and heat management, enhancing performance and reliability. image

Intelligent algorithm-based maximum power point tracker for an off-grid photovoltaic-powered direct-current irrigation system

This research aims to enhance the performance of photovoltaic (PV) systems on a 2-fold basis. Firstly, it introduces an advanced deep artificial neural network algorithm for accurate and fast maximum power point tracking, ensuring optimal extraction of electrical power from PV arrays. Secondly, it proposes the use of 96-V, 2.98-kW direct-current (DC) water pumps for farm irrigation, aiming to improve efficiency, reduce cost and complexity, and overcome challenges associated with connecting faraway farm irrigation systems to the utility grid. In this study, it has been demonstrated that the use of DC pumps greatly improves system performance and efficiency by eliminating the need for isolation transformers, power passive filters and inverters, therefore simplifying the architecture of the system. The efficacy of the proposed methodology is confirmed by MATLAB (R)/Simulink (R) simulation results, whereby the proposed algorithm attains a mean squared error of 6.5705 x 10-5 and a system efficiency approaching 99.8%, ensuring a steady voltage under varying load conditions. This study demonstrates the use of direct-current electricity from solar PV to power farm irrigation pumps in a way that greatly improves system performance and efficiency, reduces cost and simplifies the architecture of the system. BACKGROUND Biologic therapy resulted in a significant positive impact on the management of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) however data on the efficacy and side effects of these therapies in the elderly is *** To evaluate retrospectively the drug sustainability, effectiveness, and safety of the biologic therapies in the elderly IBD *** Consecutive elderly(≥ 60 years old) IBD patients, treated with biologics [infliximab(IFX), adalimumab(ADal), vedolizumab(VDZ), ustekinumab(UST)] followed at the McGill University Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Center were included between January 2000 and *** was measured by clinical scores at 3, 6-9 and 12-18 mo after initiation of the biologic therapy. Patients completing induction therapy were included. Adverse events(AEs) or serious AE were collected during and within three months of stopping of the biologic *** We identified a total of 147 elderly patients with IBD treated with biologicals during the study period, including 109 with Crohn’s disease and 38 with ulcerative colitis. Patients received the following biologicals: IFX(28.5%), ADal(38.7%), VDZ(15.6%), UST(17%). The mean duration of biologic treatment was 157.5(SD = 148) wk. Parallel steroid therapy was given in 34% at baseline,19% at 3 mo, 16.3% at 6-9 mo and 6.5% at 12-18 mo. The remission rates at 3, 6-9 and 12-18 mo were not significantly different among biological therapies. Kaplan-Meyer analysis did not show statistical difference for drug sustainability(P = 0.195), time to adverse event(P = 0.158) or infection rates(P = 0.973) between the four biologics studied. The most common AEs that led to drug discontinuation were loss of response, infusion/injection reaction and *** Current biologics were not different regarding drug sustainability, effectiveness, and safety in the elderly IBD population. Tubular Heat Enhancement Using Twisted Tape Inserts with Large Holes

Heat augmentation techniques play a vital role in the heating and cooling processes in industries,including solar collectors and many applications that utilize heat *** studies are based on inserting fillers inside the tubes to enhance heat *** investigation considered the effects of twisted tapes with large holes on a tubular heat exchanger’s(HX)heat transmission,pressure drop,and thermal boosting *** the experimental section,counter-swirl flow generators used twisted tapes with pairs of 1.0 cm-diameter holes and changes in porosity(Rp)at 1.30%and 2.70%.In the experiments,air was utilized as a working fluid in a tube with a circular *** turbulent flow was considered,with Reynolds numbers(Re)domain from 4800 to 9500,and a boundary condition with a uniform wall heat flux was *** findings expound that when the number of holes rose,the Nusselt number(Nu),the factor of friction(f),and the thermal enhancement factor(η)all increased as ***,as the friction factor increased,the Nusselt number of the tape-equipped tube was noticeably ***,it was discovered that the friction factor was between 70%and 94%lower than the values of the tube without tape,while the(Nu)was between 87%and 97%higher than the conventional tube *** maximum value ofηis 89%.According to the experimental results,empirical correlations for Nu,f,andηwere also generated.

Experimental and numerical study of effecting core configurations on the static and dynamic behavior of honeycomb plate with aluminum material

The sandwich panel incorporated a honeycomb core, a widely utilized composite structure recognized as a fundamental classification of composite materials. Comprised a core resembling a honeycomb, possessing thickness and softness, and is flank by rigid face sheets that sandwich various shapes and materials. This paper presents an examination of the static and dynamic analysis of lightweight plates made of aluminum honeycomb sandwich composites. Honeycomb sandwich plate samples are 300 mm long, and 300 mm wide, the heights of the core have been varied at four values ranging from 10 to 25 mm. The honeycomb core is manufactured from aluminum material by using a novel technique namely resistance spot welding (RSW) instead of using adhesive material, which is often used when an industrial flaw is detected. Numerical optimization based on response surface methodology (RSM) and design of experiment software (DOE) was used to verify the current work. A theoretical examination of the crashworthiness behavior (maximum bending load, maximum deflection) and vibration attributes (natural frequency, damping ratio, transient temporal response) of honeycomb sandwich panels with different design parameters was also carried out. In addition, the finite element method-based ANSYS software was used to confirm the theoretical conclusions. The findings of the present work showed that the relationship between the natural frequency, core height, and cell size is direct. In contrast, the relationship between the natural frequency and the thickness of the cell wall is inverse. Conversely, the damping ratio is inversely proportional to the core height and cell size but directly proportional to the thickness of the cell wall. The study indicates that altering the core height within 10-25 mm leads to a significant increase of 82 % in the natural frequency and a notable decrease of 49% in the damping ratio.
