Aim: In SD rats, histological changes in the testis were observed after bilateral capsulotomy (of the tunica albug-inea) in order to investigate the physiological role of the testicular capsule on sperm transport. Methods: Bilaterallongitudinal capsulotomy was devised to disrupt the capsular contractile function. With this technique, only the tunicavaginalis and tunica albuginea were slit open, leaving the tunica vasculosa intact to embrace the underlying testicularparenchyma. After capsulotomy, the structural changes in the seminiferous tubules, the transitional distal seminiferoussegment, and the rete testis were observed. Results: In the capsulotomized testis, there was sperm retention at thetransitional seminiferous segment and progressive degenerative changes in seminiferous tubules. Conclusion: Theresults clearly indicated that an intact testicular capsule was required for normal sperm transport from the seminiferoustubules into the rete testis. Aim: To demonstrate the effect of capsulotomy on the fertility of male rats. Methods: Testicular capsulotomywas carded out in immature (21 days) and adult (60 days) male rats. The fertility of them was assessed by cohabita-tion with proestrus females overnight and 20 days later, the females were examined for impregnation. Morphologicalchanges at the site of the capsulotomy were observed under light microscope. Results: In rats capsulotomized atDay 60, the fertility was gradually depressed and all the rats completely lost their fertility 2 months post-operation. Atthat time, a partial regeneration of the capsule at the site of capsulotomy was observed. Immature rats capsulotomized atDay 21 were found to possess normal fertility at maturity. The capsulotomy site was almost completely recovered 60days post-operation. Conclusion: In male rats, testicular capsulotomy at the age of Day 60 will damage ***, when capsulotomy is performed at Day 21, fertility is preserve.(Asian J Androl 2001 Mar; 3: 21-25)

Aim: In order to reveal the histochemical alteration that might occur during the processes of the spermatogenic dis-ruption induced by testicular capsulotomy, the location and alteration of lipid droplets in the seminiferous tubules wereobserved in the present study. Methods: Osmium tetroxide was used to demonstrate the lipid droplets in the semi-niferous tubules of capsulotomized and sham-operated control testes. Results: In the seminiferous tubules of thesham-operated rat testes, many small lipid droplets were located close to the basement membrane of the seminiferoustubules. But for the capsulotomized testes, the lipid droplets in the seminiferous tubules had increased in size and num-ber, with many lipid droplets migrated towards the lumen of the tubules. Conclusion: The results indicated that aprogressive fatty degeneration occurred in the seminiferous tubules after testicular capsulotomy.

Aim: In order to clarify further the mechanisms underlying the effect of capsulotomy on testicular function, the lev-els of testosterone, LH and FSH were observed. Methods: Intratesticular testosterone levels and LH, FSH levelsin the peripheral blood of normal, sham-operated and capsulotomized rats were detected by RIA. Results: Aftertesticular capsulotomy, there was a progressive reduction in the testosterone level in the testicular venous blood togetherwith a progressive increase in the LH and FSH levels in the peripheral blood from approximately 30 days post-capsuloto-my. Morphological changes were observed at 5-10 days after capsulotomy, i. e., far ahead of the hormonal ***: The seminiferous tubular damage after testicular capsulotomy was not caused by the reduction in testos-terone, and on the contrary, the hormonal change might be secondary to the morphological alterations. The increase inLH level most likely resulted from a negative feedback influence from the lowered testosterone level, while the increasein FSH secretion may be a feedback signal of the damaged seminiferous tubules. Aim: In the testicular capsulotomized rats, although there was a significant increase in the luteinizing hormone (LH)levels, the secretion of testosterone remained low. In order to clarify the mechanisms of this phenomenon, the bindingof endogenous LH to the testes were observed before and after testicular capsulotomy. Methods; Peroxidase-anti-peroxidase (PAP) method was used to detect the binding of LH to the testes in rats. Results; An intense positivestaining of LH was found in the Leydig cells of both the normal and sham-operated control testes. However, at 40 d af-ter operation, the LH immunoreactivity was decreased in the Leydig cells of the capsulotomized testis. By d 60, onlyvery weak positive staining could be observed in these cells. Conclusion; A progressive reduction of endogenousLH binding to the testis occurred in the capsulotomized rat. (Asian J Androl 2001 Sep; 3 : 227 - 230)

The characteristics of two different kinds of lignocellulosic materials(vegetable fillers)with two morphologies as Argania nut-shells(ANS)particles and Coir Fibers(CF)were used as reinforcement for phenolic resin(Bakelite)in this work,and the composite are studied as a function of filler types,shape,content(10,20,and 30%***)and manufacturing loading force(1500 and 3000 LBs).Compression molding was used to create the composites,which were then evaluated using Scanning electronic microscopy(SEM),Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),bending,dynamic-mechanical-thermal and rheological *** morphology of broken samples demonstrates that both fillers are well dispersed and *** fillers are added to the matrix,the flexural characteristics improve,and the optimal values are attained in the case of Argania *** results showed that the kind and shape of the fillers had a direct influence on the dynamic mechanical characteristics of the composites due to the reinforcement's modulus *** was noticed that,the increment of manufacturing loading force decreased the mechanical and dynamical properties of *** optimum properties obtained indicate that the composites can only be manufactured at low manufacturing loading force(1500 LBs).

Laminated Epoxy Biocomposites Based on Clay and Jute Fibers

Jute/epoxy hybrid laminated biocomposites were manufactured by using Illite clay particles at various content （5 wt.% - 20 wt.%）. The effects of hybridization on the morphology, structure, and mechanical properties were investigated. The properties of the biocomposites reinforced with jute fibers were mainly influenced by the interfacial adhesion between the jute fibers and the epoxy matrix. An alkali treatment was applied to improve the interfacial fiber-matrix adhesion and thus obtaining better mechanical properties. Besides the chemical treatment, epoxy hybridization using clay particles also had a strong effect on the overall properties of laminated biocomposites. The mechanical properties of the jute/epoxy biocomposites reinforced with Illite clay increased with clay content, up to an optimum value at 15 wt.%. The average technique and the laminates theory were performed to validate the coherence of the elastic moduli between the calculated and experimental values. A difference between the experimental and predicted data was observed, which was attributed to the simplifying assumptions made in both models. The laminates theory gave better overall predictions.

Biobased smart packaging is been the most interesting research *** this study,pH-sensitive films based on anthocyanin molecules from red cabbage and sepiolite mineral nano-clay as functional additives were *** films were fabricated by casting method of blend polymer Chitosan/Poly(Vinyl Alcohol)at two fillers loading(5wt.%and 10wt.%).The structural,morphological,thermal,optical,hygroscopic,and mechanical properties as well as the pH sensitivity of films were *** thermal properties confirm that the amount of the anthocyanin in sepiolite was around 6.4%.The tensile strength and the young’s modulus of produced composites at 10wt.%sepiolite–anthocyanin content was increased to 8.90 MPa and 163 MPa,*** maximum water absorption that the films may absorb was 12.3%.pH sensitivity analysis showed that the Smart films change the color by changing the pH level,from pink at pH lower than 6 to yellow at pH higher than ***,the developed pH-sensitive films show band gaps in visible light that make them useful for monitoring milk spoilage.
