Innate-like Cd. T cells selected.by thymocytes suppress ad.ptive immune responses against bacterial infections

We have reported.a new innate-like Cd. T cell population that ex.resses cell surface makers of effector/memory cells and.prod.ce Th1 and.Th2 cytokines immed.ately upon activation. Unlike conventional Cd. T cells that are selected.by thymic epithelial cells, these Cd. T cells, named.T-Cd. T cells, are selected.by MHC class II ex.ressing thymocytes. Previously, we showed.that the presence of T-Cd. T cells protected.mice from airway inflammation suggesting an immune regulatory role of T-Cd. T cells. To further und.rstand.the function of T-Cd. T cells, we investigated.immune responses med.ated.by T-Cd. T cells d.ring bacterial infection because the generation of antigen specific Cd. T cells contributes to clearance of infection and.for the d.velopment of immune memory. The current stud. shows a suppressive effect of T-Cd. T cells on both Cd. and.Cd. T cell-med.ated.immune responses d.ring Listeria and.Helicobacter infections. In the mouse mod.l of Listeria monocytogenes infection, T-Cd. T cells resulted.in d.creased.requency of Listeria-specific Cd. T cells and.the killing activity of them. Furthermore, mice with T-Cd. T cells d.veloped.poor immune memory, d.monstrated.by red.ced.ex.ansion of antigen-specific T cells and.high bacterial burd.n upon re-infection. Similarly, the presence of T-Cd. T cells suppressed.the generation of antigen-specific Cd. T cells in Helicobacter pylori infected.mice. Thus, our stud.es reveal a novel function of T-Cd. T cells in sup-pressing anti-bacterial immunity.

The stud. focused.on the mod.fication with platinum of d.rk d.fective titania obtained.via pulsed.laser ablation. Both the method.of Pt introd.ction and.the nature of the Pt precursor were varied. All samples ex.ibited.similar phase compositions, specific surface areas, and.Pt contents. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy coupled.with pulsed.Co ad.orption revealed.increased.d.spersity when photored.ction and.the hyd.ox.nitrate complex.(Me _(4) N) _(2) [Pt _(2) (oH) _(2) (No _(3) ) _(8) ] were used. The sample featured.a high content of single-atom species and.subnano-sized.Pt clusters. The x.ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed.that the photored.ction method.facilitated.the appearance of a larger number of Pt ^(2+) states, which appeared.owing to the strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) eff ect of the transfer of electron d.nsity from the electron-saturated.d.fects on the Tio _(2) surface to Pt ^(4+) . In the hyd.ogen evolution reaction, samples with a significant fraction of the Pt ^(2+) ionic component, capable of generating short-lived.Pt^(0) single-atom sites und.r irrad.ation d.e to the SMSI eff ect, ex.ibited.the highest photocatalytic activity. The 0.5Pt(C)/Tio_(2) -Ph sample ex.ibited.the highest hyd.ogen yield.with a quantum efficiency of 0.53, retaining its activity even after 8 h of operation.

Topological materials, which feature robust surface and.or ed.e states, have now been a research focus in cond.nsed.maTher physics. They represent a new class of materials ex.ibiting nontrivial topological phases,and.provid. a platform for ex.loring ex.tic transport phenomena, such as the quantum anomalous Hall effect and.the quantum spin Hall effect. Recently, magnetic topological materials have attracted.consid.rable interests d.e to the possibility to stud. the interplay between topological and.magnetic *** particular, the quantum anomalous Hall and.ax.on insulator phases can be realized.in topological insulators with magnetic ord.r. MnBi2Te4, as the first intrinsic antiferromagnetic topological insulator d.scovered. allows the ex.mination of ex.sting theoretical pred.ctions; it has been ex.ensively stud.ed. and.many new d.scoveries have been mad.. Here we review the progress mad. on MnBi2Te4from both ex.erimental and.theoretical aspects. The bulk crystal and.magnetic structures are surveyed.first, followed.by a review of theoretical calculations and.ex.erimental probes on the band.structure and.surface states, and.a d.scussion of various ex.tic phases that can be realized.in MnBi2Te4. The properties of MnBi2Te4thin films and.the correspond.ng transport stud.es are then reviewed. with an emphasis on the ed.e state transport. Possible future research d.rections in this field.are also d.scussed.

Einstein’s Concept of Clock Synchronization Conflicts with the Second.Relativity Postulate

Einstein d.fined.clock synchronization whenever photon pulses with timetags traverse a fix.d.d.stance between two clocks with equal time spans ineither d.rection. Using the second.relativity postulate, he found.clocksmounted.on a rod.uniformly moving parallel with the rod.s length cannot besynchronized. but clocks attached.to a stationary rod.can. He d.smissed.thisd.screpancy by claiming simultaneity and.clock synchronization were not commonbetween inertial frames, but this paper proves with both Galilean and.Lorentztransformations that simultaneity and.clock synchronization are preserved.etween inertial frames. His d.rivation means moving clocks can never besynchronized.in a “resting” inertial frame. Ultraprecise atomic clocks intimekeeping labs d.ily contrad.ct his results. No algebraic error occurred.inEinstein’s d.rivations. The two cases of clocksattached.to a rod.reveal three major conflicts with the currentsecond.postulate. The net velocity between a photon source and.d.tector plusthe “universal” velocity c is mathematically equivalent toEinstein’s clock synchronization method. As the ultraprecise timekeepingcommunity d.ily synchronizes atomic clocks on the moving Earth withultraprecise time uncertainty well below Einstein’s lowest limit ofsynchronization, the theoretical resolution of the apparent conflict isaccomplished.by ex.and.ng the second.relativity postulate to incorporate thenet velocity between the photon source and.d.tector with the emitted.velocity c as components of the total velocity c. This means the magnitud.of the total photon velocity can ex.eed.the speed.limit (299792458 m/s) set by the stand.rd.velocity c. .

d.rected.x.rays prod.ced.in the interaction of sub-picosecond.laser pulses of mod.rate relativistic intensity with plasma of near-critical d.nsity are investigated. Synchrotron-like (betatron) rad.ation occurs in the process of d.rect laser acceleration (d.A) of electrons in a relativisticlaser channel when the electrons und.rgo transverse betatron oscillations in self-generated.quasi-static electric and.magnetic field.. In anex.eriment at the PHELIx.laser system, high-current d.rected.beams of d.A electrons with a mean energy ten times higher than the pond.romotive potential and.max.mum energy up to 100 MeV were measured.at 10^(19) W/cm^(2)laser intensity. The spectrum of d.rected.x.raysin the range of 5–60 keV was evaluated.using two sets of Ross filters placed.at 0°and.10°to the laser pulse propagation ax.s. The d.fferential x.ray absorption method.allowed.for absolute measurements of the angular-d.pend.nt photon fluence. We report 10^(13) photons/sr withenergies >5 keV measured.at 0°to the laser ax.s and.a brilliance of 10^(21) photons s^(−1) mm^(−2) mrad.2(0.1%BW)−1. The angular d.stributionof the emission has an FWHM of 14°–16°. Thanks to the ultra-high photon fluence, point-like rad.ation source, and.ultra-short emissiontime, d.A-based.keV backlighters are promising for various applications in high-energy-d.nsity research with kilojoule petawatt-class laserfacilities.
