Developing occupant archetypes within urban low-income housing: A case study in Mumbai, India

Rapid urbanization pressure and poverty have created a push for affordable housing within the global *** design of affordable housing can have consequences on the thermal(dis)comfort and behaviour of the occupants,hence requiring an occupant-centric approach to ensure *** paper investigates occupant behaviour within the urban poor households of Mumbai,India and its impact on their thermal comfort and energy *** study is a first-of-its-kind attempt to explore the socio-demographic characteristics and energy-related behaviour of low-income occupants within Indian *** occupant archetypes,Indifferent Consumers;Considerate Savers;and Conscious Conventionals,were identified from the behavioural and psychographic characteristics gathered through a transverse field survey.A two-step clustering approach was adopted for occupant segmentation that highlighted considerable diversity in occupants’adaptation measures,energy knowledge,energy habits,and their pro-environmental behaviour within similar socio-economic *** energy simulation of the representative archetype behaviour estimated up to 37%variations for air-conditioned and up to 8%variation for fan-assisted naturally ventilated housing units during peak summer *** results from this study establish the significance of occupant factors in shaping energy demand and thermal comfort within low-income housing and pave way for developing occupant-centric building design strategies to serve this marginalized *** developed low-income occupant archetypes would be useful for architects and energy modelers to generate realistic energy use profiles and improve building performance simulation results.

Analysis of the hot deformation of ZK60 magnesium alloy

Hot deformation of cast-homogenized and extruded(in both the extrusion and transverse directions)ZK60 magnesium alloy was conducted using the Gleeble®3500 thermal-mechanical simulation testing system.A new approach to model the high temperature constitutive behavior of the alloy was done using two well-known equations(*** sine and Ludwig equations).For this approach,the deformation conditions were divided into regimes of low and high temperature and strain rate(four regimes).Constitutive model development was conducted in each regime and the material parameters(P)were evaluated as strain,strain rate and temperature-dependent variables;P(ε,ε,T).Using this approach,the flow curves were predicted with high accuracy relative to the experimental ***,detailed information on the evolution of hot deformation activation energy was obtained using the modified hyperbolic sine *** the modified Ludwig equation,details of strain hardening and strain rate sensitivity of the ZK60 material during hot deformation were obtained.

Gender in Gao Xingiian＇s Between Life and Death： The Notion of Originary Self and the Use of Tripartition

The relationship between the sexes and the female condition are underlying motifs in Gao Xingjian＇s post-exile plays, yet very few scholarly studies of his work have focused solely on the analysis of gender in his plays. In those studies that have, most have directed their attention toward Gao＇s novels, and many scholars have come to regard Gao as a misogynist writer. This paper examines Gao＇s attitude toward gender through an analysis of his plays, specifically Between Life and Death （Shengsijie, 1991）. The theatrical medium illustrates a more complex elaboration of gender representation than those seen in Gao＇s novels---one that complicates conceptions of the writer＇s misogyny. Focusing on Between Life and Death, I assert that Gao＇s alleged misogyny is a misrepresentation. Regarding my theoretical approach, I make particular reference to feminist theorists such as Julia K_dsteva and Judith Butler. The debate is linked to Gao＇s concept of an un-gendered/originary self and considers the use of dramatic devices--specifically focusing on the use of tripartition.

Binary Multifold Encryption Technique for Complex Cloud Systems

Data security is a major cloud computing issue due to different usertransactions in the system. The evolution of cryptography and cryptographic analysis are regarded domains of current research. deoxyribo nucleic acid (DNA) cryptography makes use of DNA as a sensing platform, which is then manipulated usinga variety of molecular methods. Many security mechanisms including knowledgebased authentication, two-factor authentication, adaptive authentication, multifactorauthentication and single password authentication have been deployed. These cryptographic techniques have been developed to ensure confidentiality, but most ofthem are based on complex mathematical calculations and equations. In the proposed approach, a novel and unique Hybrid helix scuttle-deoxy ribo nucleic acids(HHS-DNA) encryption algorithm has been proposed which is inspired by DNAcryptography and Helix scuttle. The proposed HHS-DNA is a type of multifold binary version of DNA (MF-BDNA). The major role of this paper is to present a multifold HHS-DNA algorithm to encrypt the cloud data assuring more security with lesscomplexity. The experimentation is carried out and it reduces the encryption time,cipher text size, and improves throughput. When compared with previous techniques, there is a 45% improvement in throughput, 37% fast in encryption time,54.67% cipher text size. The relevant experimental results and foregoing analysisshow that this method is of good robustness, stability, and security.

Roles and regulations of the ETS transcription factor ELF4/MEF

Most E26 transformation-specific （ETS） transcription factors are involved in the pathogenesis and progression of cancer. This is in part due to the roles of ETS transcription factors in basic biological processes such as growth, proliferation, and differentiation, and also because of their regulatory functions that have physiological relevance in tumorigenesis, immunity, and basal cellular homoeostasis. A member of the E74-1ike factor （ELF） subfamily of the ETS transcription factor family--myeloid elf-l-Uke factor （MEF）, designated as ELF4~has been shown to be critically involved in immune response and signalling, osteogenesis, adipo- genesis, cancer, and stem cell quiescence. ELF4 carries out these functions as a transcriptional activator or through interactions with its partner proteins. Mutations in ELF4 cause aberrant interactions and induce downstream processes that may lead to dis- eased cells. Knowing how ELF4 impinges on certain cellular processes and how it is regulated in the cells can lead to a better understanding of the physiological and pathological consequences of modulated ELF4 activity.

Determinants of infant behavior and growth in breastfed late preterm and early term infants:a secondary data analysis

Single men seeking adoption

It was once impossible anywhere in the world for single adults to adopt children, and this is still the case in many jurisdictions. Elsewhere, however, single adults are now being actively recruited primarily because they are more willing than are married couples to adopt older or disabled children or to adopt across racial or other barriers. This is true for single men as well as for singlewomen, but single men seeking to adopt continue to be widely viewed with skepticism and are reportedly often judged to be inappropriate parents. This paper reviews the sparse fostering and adoption literature on single heterosexual males and addresses the evident ambivalence with which parenting by single men is held among both child and adult mental health professionals. The paper also discusses the parenting styles of mothers and fathers, the ways that the central nervous system in both sexes has been found to respond to parenthood, the similarity of outcomes between single male and single female parenting, and the availability in North America of support and training for foster and adoptive single parents. The paper concludes that, in general, single men have as much to offer an adopted child as do single women and that seeming discrimination against them by childcare agencies requires investigation.

Successful treatment of nightmares may reduce psychotic symptoms in schizophrenia

Nightmares occur more frequently in patients with schizophrenia than they do in the general population. Nightmares are profoundly distressing and may exacerbate daytime psychotic symptoms and undermine day-to-day function. Clinicians do not often ask aboutnightmares in the context of psychotic illness and patients may underreport them or, if nightmares are reported, they may be disregarded; it may be assumed that they will disappear with antipsychotic medication and that they do not, therefore, require separate intervention. This is a missed opportunity because Image Rehearsal Therapy, among other psychological and pharmacological interventions, has proven effective for nightmares in nonschizophrenia populations and should be considered at an early stage of psychotic illness as an important adjunct to standard treatment. There is active ongoing research in this field, which will undoubtedly benefit patients with schizophrenia in the future.

Preliminary phytochemical analysis,antibacterial,antifungal and anticandidal activities of successive extracts of Crossandra infundibuliformis

Objective:To investigate the phytochemical,antibacterial,antifungal and anticandidal activity of successive extracts of Crossandra infundibuliformis(Acanthaceae) ***:Preliminary screening on the presence of alkaloids,saponins,phytosterols,phenolic compounds,flavanoids, tannins,carbohydrates,terpenoids,oils and fats were carried out by phytochemical *** antibacterial,antifungal and anticandidal activities were done by agar well diffusion technique. Results:The successive extracts have an array of chemical constituents and the MIC values of antibacterial activity ranges from 0.007 8 to 0.015 0μg/*** case of antifungal and anticandidal activities the MIC values were between 0.125 and 0.250μg/***:These findings demonstrate that the leaf extracts of *** presents excellent antimicrobial activities and thus have great potential as a source for natural health care products.

Biological conversion of low-grade coal discard to a humic substance-enriched soil-like material

A mutualistic relationship between grasses, coal-degrading fungi, and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi was pro- posed to account for the phyto-biodegradation of coal discard. In this study pot trial experiments were carried out to confirm transformation of the carbonaceous substrate, in the presence of a suite of coal degrading fungi and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, into a humic-enriched soil-like material in the Cynodon dactylon/coal rhizosphere. The results show that after 47 weeks of C. dactylon growth on coal discard the concentration of humics increased from （62.9 -4- 1.5） to （112.1 ＋ 5.4） mg/kg. Substrate humic acid-like substance concentration positively correlated （r2 = 0.95） with accumu- lation of above ground C. dactylon biomass. FTIR spectroscopy of the extracted humic-like substances confirmed both product identity and increased oxidation of the coal discard substrate. Substrate ash content and electrical conductivity declined coincident with an increase in humic acid-like substance concentration, which together reduced the intensity of acidity in the C. dactylon/coal discard rhizosphere. These observations support the proposal that biological oxidative degradation of coal discard leads to increased humic-like substance concentration and formation of a soil-like material. Results have profound implications for use of coal discard as an organic substrate to replace topsoil in phyto-bioreme- diation strategies for sustainable large-scale rehabilitation of coal discard dumps.
